Sehr empfehlenswert!
We were made very welcome by Denis' friend Flore as he could not be there. The apartment is as the description , nicely presented and clean and tidy. The kitchen is well equipped. The neighbourhood is rural, very quiet and convenient for mountains and vineyards. The restaurant downstairs in the property was closed for refurbishment but will be a great asset when it reopens.
We had a wonderful welcome by Denis at his place in Lautenbach. It actually felt like staying at a friend's place. Denis was super helpful and accommodating. The location is remote & central at the same time. The apartment looks even more beautiful in reality than the pictures indicate. It is decorated with attention to detail and with great taste. Everything was super clean and comfortable. We loved the beds & sofas which seem self-made and perfectly fit the wood on the walls making the place very cozy. You have a very nice bathroom and separate toilette. We loved the good smelling big towels. All windows are covered with invisible mosquito nets so you can enjoy the fresh air & calmness outside during a good night's sleep. You can notice that Denis & his family are staying there from time to time themselves. We loved the location, away from any traffic, next to the forest, next to a beautiful chapel with a charming history (it is only open on Sunday afternoon & on public holidays, but Denise has the legend covered in his great welcome book), next to two great fishing ponds where you can put your 5 Euro/ day in a mailbox to give it a try yourselves, close to the access road to the Grand Ballon , the highest peak in the whole mountain range, with plenty of beautiful hiking trails & summer sledge, close to the small local store where you can buy fresh local produce & bread any day of the week (try the goat cheese with Figue confiture in the middle), close to the fantastic monastery of Morbach, close to a village with great history, Guebwiller, close to the unique Source Museum in Soutlzmatt (where it is a MUST to buy some local Lisbeth water & Hansi Cola), close to the Route of the Five Castles towards Colmar with the Hohlandbourg being just inaugurated as a museum with a great Brasserie, close enough to THE key wine villages in Alsass like Kayersberg & Rhiquewihr (just follow the wine route that passes close to the apartment). Two other great places to visit as a family are the Tellure Silver mine in Saint-Marie-des-Mines and the Cite de Automobile in Mulhouse (look out for the 1976 story that brought this unique place to life). We stayed with our two boys, aged 7 & 10. They loved leaving the house right after breakfast to discover the surroundings on their own which is no problem due to the excellent, remote location. The only small disadvantage was that there was no curtain to separate the bed room from the living room. But as we had days full of amazing experiences, we ended up going to bed with the boys and did not mind. We left the place with the wish to come back as there are plenty of things we did not manage to discover yet. Next time the restaurant/ brasserie downstairs should be open as well making the experience even...
