Please note that this houseboat is on Gates Co-op dock, but the address says Issaquah. This is because Gates Co-op does not register on this site's GPS. I send people driving directions via email.
This light filled, lovely houseboat is on the funky, infamous, bohemian dock, The Gates Cooperative, in Sausalito. The houseboat is small, but very charming with a rooftop deck and great views of pelicans, cormorants, and the occasional seal swims by the front door. The house has two kayaks, but please bring your own life jackets.
It can be sunny and warm here one moment, then foggy and moody the next. The location is amazing, as it's 10 minutes from San Francisco, 35 minutes from Sonoma wine country and 35 minutes to West Marin and the magical beaches out there. Muir Woods and the Golden Gate National Recreation areas are minutes away and there are great restaurants and bars nearby.
I have two gray tabby cats, Ocho and Pequod, who come with the house, so guests must be cat lovers. As well, I have lots of neighbors who live nearby who I am friends with, so expect to chat, wave "hello" and stay in a very safe, friendly spot.
I am a writer and live simply, so I don't have a microwave or dishwasher. As well, I don't have a television, but I do have a DVD player for watching movies, and Wi-Fi Internet connections.
This house is great for a creative, romantic or adventurous get-away. It's not ideal for luxury travelers.
Due to insurance and other considerations, no guests will be allowed to stay here unless they have reserved through the Airbnb website, so any last minute changes, please make through the site. Thanks!
Kayaks, trails for hiking & biking, restaurants, delis and grocery stores that are walking distance.
Beautiful and relaxing stay on Maria's houseboat! Located on one of the funkier floating home docks in Sausalito, the neighbors are colorful, friendly and very welcoming. Be sure to bring lifejackets for the two single-person kayaks...so lovely to be able to glide along the nearby shore. There's a well-stocked grocery store and restaurants about 1/2 mile away, so there's no need to ever get in your car if you don't want...we didn't! Ocho the cat rules the roost and is a real sweeheart.
We enjoyed the boat. See other reviews-- all true.
Coolest neighborhood ever! we are so amazed by the houseboat community, it's a pity that Maria was out of town but her neighbors were very friendly, they gave us a great overview of this unique neighborhood and stories behind each boat, we would love to stay longer!
A great overall experience. Maria was very attentive (she came to meet me on the dock at 11p when I couldn't find the houseboat!). The house was lovely and very comfortable. My favorites were the roof-top deck and the kayaks. I'll definitely return!
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Maria's houseboat! We loved that we could take the ferry to the city one day and spend the next wandering through the redwoods, each night returning for a breathtaking sunset over the water. Pequod and Ocho were a delight - we even got to watch them play with a crab that they caught on the front porch! From watching the birds to kayaking through the unique community, this was an excursion we won't soon forget.
Maria went the extra mile to accommodate us which made it more like visiting family. This place is enchanted and even though we live in the Bay Area, we were able to retreat.
Great time in a unique setting. Maria was there to meet us and was always available!
I have stayed there for five days. I have to say, these five days are unforgettable experience. Watching beautiful sunset and sunrise, walking and cooking. With two cute cats, these five days are awesome. What's more, neighbors are also really nice. Don't forget, these all happens on a boat!
Maria, thank you for the wonderful stay! We spent two nights and had a fabulous time. Maria's houseboat is clean, cozy and charming. We LOVED her two kitties and slept wonderfully both nights - the dock is quiet and peaceful. The roof deck was a definite highlight for us! Thank you again for the unique and memorable experience, Maria!
My wife and I had a wonderful experience. We booked a two-night rental basically for the fun of it, to see what the Houseboats were like. If we had been looking for a luxurious accommodation, this wouldn't have worked. But for getting just a little feel for what has made the Sausalito Houseboat World something unique and special -- we picked just the right place.
Maria is really nice and her Houseboat has everything you need. Plus a lot of soul. Be sure to hang out on top when the sun's going down in the evening.. Walk around the Waldo Point area and look around. If you can, hike up to the ridge overlooking the Sausalito tidal land and see how it's all laid out. Check out "Fish" just down the road for dinner if you want to stay local.
The bed is fine. The kitchen is cute. The morning sun lighting up the water and the Houseboats is spectacular. Maria has good books. Take a look at "Houseboats and Aquatic Architecture of Sausalito."
For us, it was a bit of an adventure, comfortable and safe, and a teeny step out of our normal routines.
