Large, bright, airy, clean, happy old Hawaii home. Quiet neighborhood, close to the eclectic delights of Pahoa Town. About 15 mins to the ocean.
Art and dogs, fresh avocados and frog pond, flowers and food.
Expect spacious quiet.
Ours is a very respectable, multicultural, green district about 15 mins walk to Pahoa Town.
To eat in Pahoa--two Thai, two pizza, great coffee, natural food store, Mexican, Italian, and fusion steakhouse with music.
The bus comes to the intersection of Old Kapoho Rd and Naele Rd.
Originally crafted in Kea'au at the turn of the century, it was two fifths larger than its current incarnation.
It was purchased by two families, cut in 5 pieces and moved to this district in 1962.
Three fifths are what remains of this grand old beauty with her proud front lanai and small morning lanai off the terrarium like dining room. Green abounds!

A beautiful and peaceful retreat. Very clean, relaxed and inviting. I felt recharged and didn't want to leave. I really appreciated the personal recommendations based on what I was interested in exploring, as I didn't have time to do my homework before I arrived. I discovered some gems I would not have known about on my own. Thank you for an amazing experience I will not soon forget.
Darla is the finest example of Aloha Spirit I've experienced on this, my
first ever, trip to Hawaii. The accommodations were clean and I couldn't
have asked for a better host.
Her house is a short walk (half a mile, tops) from 'downtown' Pahoa & its
many yummy restaurants. Darla offers free wifi, but doesn't own a T.V. So
if you have to have your tube fix, this ain't the place--or town, or
district, or side of the Big Island--for you.
5 stars, across the board.
We had a wonderful stay at Darla's plantation home and would highly recommend her place for anyone traveling to Pahoa. She is a gracious and kindhearted host making the energy of the home extremely positive. The gardens are beautiful and if you like avocados, you definitely should try some of Darla's!
The blue room is extremely charming and has wonderful green views from the row of windows. The place has beautiful artwork and is simply furnished to let the beauty of the home shine through.
Darla, her place and her two dogs were a lovely welcome on arriving in Pahoa. Darla's house is a gorgeous old plantation house and has so much character. It's sparsely furnished but has everything you need, and we had our best night's sleep in the comfy bed. If you're the type of person to seek out a unique and chilled place like Pahoa, you'll probably be the type to really appreciate the tranquility, space and relaxation of Darla's place.
Darla was a very welcoming and gentle host. We'd definitely stay with her again.
Darla is not only a gracious and accommodating host, but a stimulating conversationalist and a fascinating person. Definite recommendation!
Thank you Darla for such being such a wonderful host. Ryan and I loved staying with you. Your home is so simple, relaxing and just everything we needed. Your puppies are the best on the island, they have so much character. You are such great company, thank you for helping us get around with directions. We look forward to visiting you again.
This is a wonderful place to stay! If you are looking for a relaxing place to put your head, this bnb is located walking distance to Pahoa and a short drive to the beach. We Loved it and would recommend it to everyone!
