very nice host and very good house
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We left after day one of three. Due to the "strict cancellation" policy there was no refund. I have lived in Islington for many years and love the area. I don't mind basic but this place is in a sorry state and needs a makeover desparately. If you rent out your apartment at such a lofty price please make sure that you fulfil some minimum standards.
The flat is in a very pratical location. It is very welcoming and so is the host. It might be a little noisy for some but being is such a great location i really dont think that it is fair to ask for better. The flat has quite a bit of charm. Great spot and good price for it as well as a very simple approach for check in and out. Melina is also very quick to answer which is very helpful.
All clean and nice, lovely flat, no complications, friendly host! The road in front of the flat's quite loud and busy, but I guess that's what you get when living right in the middle of Islington (also: literally 2 minutes to the station - perfect!)
Melina's flat is not for everyone. It is a spacious, two-floor flat above a small coffee shop, close to pubs, markets, and many restaurants. It is a little old and needs some modernization, but this is London. The flat is in a busy intersection of Highbury-Islington close to the tube station. If you want a quiet nook in the city, this is not it. Every 30 minutes, police cars raced past our windows, sirens blasting. It is best suited for younger guests looking to experience a vibrant area of London, traveling lightly without children.
When we arrived, we were surprised to see 3 dead-bolt locks. This told me (along with the police sirens) that the area might have safety issues. When only ONE of the locks worked, it made me concerned about security.
When we arrived the linens were still in the washer. It took almost our entire stay to have them air-dry. It would have been nice if they were already done before we arrived. The television was not working, which was not a big deal, but when you rent a flat, you expect that things will work.
The are several places where nails or screws are protruding from the wooden floor. I noticed that another person mentioned this in a review a year ago, but the problem was not addressed. All it would take is a hammer or screwdriver and the problem would be solved. Or you could have rugs or runners on the floor, covering them. Or do both. The flooring was pretty bad in the second level. Both my wife, daughter and I stepped on these nails and were lucky not to have cut our feet.
Finally, the bathtub sits up against the roof, which means unless you are under 1.25 m tall or an acrobat, you can't shower standing up. It was a minor issue, but if you have issues with your knees, it could be a problem.
All in all, it is a nice little flat with character, but like every good character, it has its flaws.
Melina was great. She has a very easy setup for checking in and out and the apartment was amazing. The neighborhood was great and the convenience to the nearby tube station was a huge benefit. The apartment was spacious, clean and generally awesome.
