Getting around

City of Key West offers public transportation via US1. Search using "City of Key West Transportation". Bus stop for our island is "Sugarloaf".

  • Midge & Tom are both excellent hosts as well as unique characters providing their own healing products & energy much needed in the keys. We camped on their site....funky but sweet, very private. They made sure we were comfortable, helping us in any way needed. Nice outdoor shower as well as I sore bathroom. We bought some of their luscious sea salt made on the property and ate papaya from the garden. Love to stay in touch and return next year. Only recommendation for camping is no-see-um screens or bug stuff ! I also respect their fragrance free and environmental clean's amazing to say but still rare to find in our travels. Midge & Tom are also very warm people and lovely to meet. Max & Phillipe

earth & sea farm - salt farmers
Year round residents of Upper Sugarloaf Key, we are Farmers Midge and Tom. We love island life and have lived here since 1981/Midge and 1975/Tom. We specialize in the independent traveler and are happy to cooperate with travelers who are looking for more local info. We make every effort to support the type of experience you wish to have while our guest on the land. Passionate caretakers of the land at Earth & Sea Farm, We are both avid readers, love to travel - with a special fondness for the road less traveled and enjoy hosting (website hidden), reading, sailing, birdwatching, environmental activism and permaculture are among the many interests of your hosts. Mariposa Retreat @ Earth & Sea Farm is 15 miles/30 minutes from Key West and same from the beautiful Bahia Honda State Park with highly rated beaches. Great biking/walking trail on island, small convenience store on island, other public sport space at Sugarloaf School on island. Our quiet working farm is located on the edge of the Great White Heron Wildlife Refuge and there are thousands of acres of native land on our very small island. Close to Bahia Honda State Park for great water enjoyment and close to Key West for city enjoyment. Although we are a working farm, all efforts are made to prioritize the retreat nature of the land while guests are in residence. Rarely do farm activities begin before 10 am within hearing distance of the guest rooms. FARMSTAY ... please inquire about our advanced FARMSTAY experience. For an additional $54 per day, guests may join the flow of farm life. $54 includes breakfast and lunch and up to 4 hours a day of shared work on the land in support of the farm, most often in the morning, but farm needs sometimes insist afternoons as a better fit. Shared work can include anything from collecting seawater, filling salt pans, cleaning/packaging salt, harvesting cultivated and wild foods, weeding, building, planting, domestic sciences, farmers market and more. FARMSTAY must be requested at time of booking to ensure salt farmers availability during your stay on the land. As suggested by airbnb: 5 things midge would find it difficult to live without; books, ocean water, coconut, a plot of earth to farm, silence Earth & Sea Farm motto ... may all benefit
