A wood shake cottage on a sweet Salt Marsh + Narragansett Bay with water views out three sides and a kyack out the front door. fifteen minutes to Providence Ri and Brown / RISD and the East Side.
There are not enough stars for Janice and Thimble Cottage!
A stellar experience from every aspect; a warm welcoming
host, charming interestingly FUN filled abode, comfortable and
cozy. Her art collections are an intoxication of color and interest; her personal ephemeral sculptures organic animations. A beautiful tranquil neighborhood located at the water's edge not far from local interests. I shall most certainly return someday.
If you enjoy art, the sea, or vintage furnishings, you will love, love this place!
Janice is such a great hostess:) and a wonderful cook!
Janice is a wonderful hostess! She was warm, welcoming and easy to communicate with. Her house is a lovely retreat by the sea, filled with art and books. The backyard had lounge chairs and a fire pit. It is a beautiful cottage 2 doors down from the water. You need a car to get here but it is worth it to reach this relaxing place. Take her up on her $20 dinner offer: her cooking is amazing! (She picked a salad fresh from her garden to go with dinner!) Her cat and dog are friendly too. I stayed because I had a class at RISD but I hope to return again just to enjoy the lovely setting by the sea. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! This is a lovely slice of New England and Janice is a warm and gracious hostess.
Janice is a very kind lovely lady. You won't feel tired of talking to her.
She is warm and hospitable.
Her boyfriend Andrew offered to lend his bike to me so I can have ride around and I enjoyed exploring the area.
The pets are very cute and friendly.
The location is a calm quiet place with awesome perspective and beautiful backyard.
Janice is a very good cook. She made me awesome breakfast.
She kindly changed my room so I can fit on the bed.
Janice is an artist and the interior of the house and the rooms are decorated with lots of different art pieces.
She walked me around the neighborhood and gave me the name of all cool places around.
I loved my stay there. She took care of me as my mother would have done.
Janice has created a little treasure of a house: an immediately friendly and comfortable small cozy place. She is a wonderful hostess and a creative chef: I highly recommend to order add-on meal service while staying. It will be worth every extra penny. Even if you stay/live elsewhere in Providence, RI, consider hosting a family&friends lunch or dinner event.
I stayed over at Janice's while attending my son's Commencement Day at RISD. Janice and I worked out an arrangement to host my friends&family party of 10 people. While weather was sad and wet and windy, making us stay inside, we had a wonderful happy evening event. Food was "high-class-meets-home-and-cozy:" imaginative, live, tasty, and aplenty.
Janice's kitchen is worth a tour: I imagined myself somewhere in an old house kitchen in South France with all its cooking and serving tools, china and utensils for every kind of dish and purpose.
Then, when dinner was over, we had a privilege of chatting with Janice: our hostess, our chef, and..an accomplished artist: herself an alumni of RISD.
My family was happy and full, my favorite RISD grad of a son appreciated this special evening.
Stay with Janice and you would have more than a stay or a family function: the whole experience with her is more like a masterful artistic performance humbly delivered on a stage of everyday life.
Janice is a super host! She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable, and she took time to show me around as well as tell me about things to do, places to go.
If you stay with Janice, you'll need a car to get around, but it is so worth your while, because Barrington is perfectly situated for trips to Providence, Bristol and Newport.
I highly recommend staying with Janice :)
Janice provided me with a haven away from home - a perfect balance of quiet solitude and congenial company - exactly what I needed and I can't wait to go back. Thank you, Janice!
P.S. You must take her up on her offer of use of her bike and check out the East Bay Bike Path. And don't forget the kayak too. Makes me want to move to buy a house next door. :-)
I arrived late at night and was warmly welcomed by Janice and her pooch with with wine and cheese....slept in a gorgeous soft bed - and awoke in a little piece of paradise. Janice's home is a lovely artistic haven, and it was a delight to get to know her, spend time in her world and enjoy a lovely breakfast on the front porch in the morning sun. Also you must ask to see her ephemeral art ~ It's amazing! I know I'll be back to visit again.
