About this listing

Nestled in the treetops overlooking the center of town, including the cathedral & opera house, Casita Rosa is like floating in heaven. With multiple terraces, many hammocks, 16 ft ceilings, gorgeous tile work, a king-size bed, huge windows, and the most jaw-dropping view imaginable, it's no surprise our first guest described staying in Casita Rosa as hitting the jackpot. There's a small herb/vegetable garden and a solar oven called a Uitzi. Mainly available May-Oct at great long-term rates.

The space

Perched high amongst the treetops on the central south-facing hillside of the heart of Guanajuato, our casita is a slice of heaven. With a view to die for, this spectacular split level studio floats above the hustle and bustle of the centro, but it is only a 3 minute walk down to the Plaza de la Paz, the Jardin or the Alhondiga. Surrounded by both covered and un-covered terraces, Casita Rosa is a spectacular spot from which to explore Guanajuato or hole away and write your opus, inspired by the extraordinary sparkling city below. Birds sing in the trees and fly in flocks beneath you, church bells ring in the Basilica and music wafts up the hillside.
There is NO car access - Guanajuato is a largely pedestrian city, and our house is on a callejon, which means "carless street". While you can take a taxi to about one block uphill from our home and walk down, it is not suitable for people who are out-of-shape or hate to walk.

Interaction with guests

We mainly rent Casa Rosa during the summer months when we are not here. But our neighbor Rosario, in the house below us on the hillside, will welcome and look after you. She is also one of the best masseuse we know and offers authentic Mexican sweat-lodges (temescals) at weekends.

The neighborhood

We absolutely love our neighborhood. It's very family-centric and community oriented - everyone knows everyone and the callejones are full of children playing hopscotch or soccer. The children are very polite and like to practice their three words of English with anyone who looks like they might understand. Most of the people who live in our neighborhood are families who have been here forever, and often grown siblings will own houses next door to each other. There are several excellent small fruit/vegetable/grocery markets just up the hill from us, even closer, or at least more on the level, than the centro. You can buy most of what you'd need there without going downhill, the exceptions being wine or alcohol. You can buy beer everywhere. Also up the hill in our little "neighborhood center" you can get fresh-squeezed juices, homemade ice cream and, on weekends, delicious goat-meat tacos.

Getting around

Guanajuato is mostly a pedestrian city. It is great for people who like to walk! But there are also excellent inexpensive taxis that will take you all over the place (seemingly when only trying to go a short distance - but that's the crazy twisty one-way streets of Guanajuato). You can take a taxi from the bottom of the hill to the car street one block above Casita Rosa, and walk down from there. It might seem like you're driving forever to go a short distance, but it's a great way to see the city. There is also an excellent and very cheap public bus system that goes all over the city, but it helps to speak Spanish and know the city. Still, it can be a fun adventure to explore the city by bus, and often there'll be musicians. When giving directions to a TAXI driver, tell them to go to the RAMPA DE LOS ELOTEROS EN EL CERRO DEL CUARTO.

Other things to note

We're very sorry but our home is not suitable for young children. There is a floating staircase and several other open places where kids could fall. (Very clumsy people or sleep walkers might want to look elsewhere as well.)

Casa Palma is a beautiful home in a residential neighborhood setting just a 10 minute walk from downtown. The home is well maintained, has many artistic touches and is just as described. The best thing hands down is the gorgeous garden with its birds, butterflies, chickens and many fruit trees. The view from the terrace is incredible. Raquel and Adam were very kind, helpful and accommodating for our last minute request to book. Some cons are the bedroom was bright and could use a curtain to block light and for privacy, and the bed needs new sheets. We would recommend bringing organic shampoo and conditioner as the water of the shower waters the garden (ingenious!) Overall we loved Casa Palma and had a great experience!!

This was our first Airbnb experience and it was AMAZING! Adam and Rachel were able to meet us down at the plaza to show us the way to the house. We stayed in a different place d/t construction because they thought we'd be more comfortable. The house was gorgeous, clean, and beautiful!! You can tell how much thought and care they put into every detail to make you feel comfortable. They helped us find which markets and restaurants to use, and even called us a cab at the end so we'd get safely to our next destination. I would give them and their homes 100 stars! Amazing homes, experience and hospitality!!

I feel like I hit the jackpot in choosing this beautiful apartment with such warm and accommodating hosts for my first Airbnb experience. The photos are accurate, with stunning views that can be seen from the terrace, as well as all rooms of the apartment. You can lie in the sleigh bed (the smell of the wood reminded me of my grandmother's house) and see the Basilica below. You do have to work for the view, as the paths (callejones) that lead to it are steep, but the view, the apartment and the hosts are well worth it. The callejones were fascinating and "exotic" to me. I had never seen anything like it. The hosts, Raquel and Adam, couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed, and showing me around the neighborhood. As recommended in other reviews, I used Ramiro's pickup service from the airport, and I recommend this as well.

My fiance and I have been taking winter trips to escape the cold of Washington State. I wanted to experience a colonial city with a lot of history as well as have a nice place away from the concentration of tourists. This place met all that criteria. Rachel has described her casita very accurately. Rachel and Adam are both very creative and outgoing people that genuinely enjoy both making their rentals bright and welcoming, as well as reaching out as excellent hosts. One point I would add, the rental would be very difficult to find for someone coming to the city for the first time. Do accept their guidance when coming to the city. Guanajuato is an exceptional destination and a cultural treat! Rachel and Adam are excellent hosts, and I would highly recommend their rentals to anyone wishing to visit the city.

Excellent stay at this beautiful apartment. It's a lovely, well appointed apartment, with a very comfortable bed, fantastic views and a location I really loved in a non-touristy neighborhood close to the city center. The place is up a hill (hence the great view) but be prepared to go up lots of steps to get there. Rachel and Adam are lovely, friendly people, great communicators, and terrific hosts. They also put me in touch with Romiro, who provided transportation to and from the airport for about the same price as the taxis one would find on one's own. Being brought directly to the door when arriving with bags worked great for me, since the place is tucked away on pedestrian alleyways. After walking into town a time or two, my directional sense was set, but finding the place for the first time could be challenging. Romiro speaks excellent English, was punctual, reliable, and super nice and friendly to boot. All in all, a great place to stay in Guanajuato.

We cannot imagine a more perfect place to have stayed in Guanajuato! The casita itself is immaculate, beautiful, unique, and comfortable all at the same time (and with kitchen and a good internet connection which are imperative for us!). On top of all that, the location was fantastic and the views even better. Rachel went to great efforts to make sure that we had everything that we needed during our stay. We would definitely stay here again upon returning to Guanajuato and would recommend Vista Feliz to anyone considering it. A great fit for a romantic weekend getaway or a month of exploring. We already miss watching the sun hit the basilica in the morning and the stars above the teatro in the evenings from the hammock view out the enormous window. Rachel and Adam, you certainly knew what you were doing when you picked this spot and designed such a gem. Thank you for everything!!

This is an absolutely beautiful home! It is situated up several steps on a callejon, so it's certainly not for everyone. I lost a few pounds over the month that I stayed there climbing up the steps to the house! But if you don't mind the climb, the views are spectacular!

I am a writer/designer who divides my time between Nova Scotia, Canada and Guanajuato, Mexico. My husband and I design high end, gourmet solar ovens called uitzis. Look up "uitzi solar ovens" online to learn about our solar ovens and cooking with the sun in Guanajuato. I am passionate about design and beauty, and feel incredibly lucky to have such beautiful homes and be able to share them with interesting people. I love being a part of the airbnb community, and have stayed at fabulous places in Amsterdam and Oxford. I am also passionate about food and happy to share recommendations of good local eats! I like reading but am not big on TV so neither of our rentals has a TV. But both our homes are warm and beautiful with exquisite attention to detail - and if you're on vacation in a fabulous place, do you really want to be watching TV?
