Our stay in Jerusalem was perfect in every way, The hosts Gitit & Idi Bar-Avin were helpful in so many ways and we enjoyed talking with him. The apartment is in the best location possible, it is 3 blocks from Jaffa Gate to Old City Jerusalem; and only 2 blocks to train and bus services. The apartment has every amenity you could possibly need and was so much more than we expected. I don't think there is a better place to stay in Jerusalem. Our host even helped arrange transportation back to Tel Aviv as our flight left so early in the morning. If I could give more stars I would. Thank you so very much for everything.
Best location. Nice available host. Suggest pillowcases starter paper towels. Sun picture on remote is heat mode. Switches Could be marked better. Patio great. Overall fine and hope to return. Mel
This apartment is great. Really great location, very close to Ben yehuda and the old city. We were a group of 5 and the cot that they left us was pretty terrible for the fifth person but otherwise, no complaints.
Our family of four spent five nights in this apartment, which is located very conveniently to both the old city and city centre. It is a short 5 minute walk through the Mamila shopping arcade to the Jaffa Gate, or, alternatively, 5 minutes to the New Gate and 10 minutes to the Damascus Gate. Also, you are 2 minutes from Jaffa Street, where you can take the light rail to the Mahane Yehuda market and Yad Vashem. The apartment itself is very spacious and well set out with a large bedroom and bathroom (good hot water), kitchen and an enormous balcony. The two TV's are nice as is the heater/AC unit but it would be helpful to have more explicit instructions on how to operate them.
We did, however, have some concerns over the cleanliness of the apartment: on first entering, it feels clean but looking more closely reveals a number of issues that should be addressed: the couch is stained and 'grotty', paint is peeling from several walls, there are water/mould stains in the bathroom, and it looks as though nobody has cleaned under the bed for years. It is great to have a washing machine but the dryer needed a good clean, as there was lint and hairs throughout, along with wet sheets and towels inside, which we had to dry, fold and put away ourselves - perhaps the cleaner was rushed and forgot them. The balcony is lovely, but the view is largely over rubbish-strewn rooftops. As others have pointed out, the pillows are rock hard and it is a real stretch to say that it sleeps six. There are a couple of foldaway beds, foam pads and extra sheets in the storage room (OMG, get out as quick as you can!), but they only suit a small child.
The owners were very helpful, although we did not meet them personally. We appreciated their prompt responses via phone and email. As this apartment is marketed as a "Stunning Boutique Apartment", we feel it is necessary for them to attend to its deficiencies.
Finally, if self-catering, avoid the 24 hour market opposite the Mamila Hotel - it is a total rip-off! Use the friendly little shop just outside the apartment for basics, the Mahane Yehuda market (vibrant, lively), the souks around Damascus Gate or try to find a larger supermarket.
Exclusively convenient location of apartments, and also cleaness and cosiness inside, allow me to call Stunning Boutique Penthouse one of the best options of placement in Jerusalem.
The spacious and light apartment with a functional kitchen and the big terrace, a convenient big bed and a spacious bathroom has wonderful hosts. Their attention to my stay in apartments was unostentatious and paternally careful.
- location, location, location
- separate bedroom, living area
- bed comfortable
- wifi worked great
- hosts very helpful/kind
- pretty clean (relative to other places we stayed at in Israel)
- great outdoor space which I am sure would be fabulous in good weather
Only real negatives being lack of heating in the bathroom plus limited TV channels (news runs on a loop).
There is a Hertz rental car location located within a 7 minute walk. The Old City (Jaffa Gate) was about 5-7 minutes from the apartment. We stayed here during the historic (50 year) snowstorm which made it quite challenging (plus lots of rain prior to the snow arriving) just getting out and about...due to the weather. So the map would have been helpful to save us time and getting more wet than necessary.
One issue was that we couldn't figure out to get the heat to work so we had to call on our phone which was only set up for an int'l plan at $1.99/minute (we never found a SIM card for our phone in Israel) so we had a call that cost us about +$30 partly due to the hosts just being chatty/friendly....though they didn't know that we really couldn't afford to chit-chat/talk on the phone beyond getting the info. we needed. Hard to fault for the hosts being kind.
In sum we would definitely stay here again....esp. being more familiar with the surroundings.
The apartment was perfectly acceptable apart from the fact that the sheets hadn't been changed before we arrived. We had to find some cleanish looking sheets in the wardrobe to use on the first day and then we washed and dried some sheets the next morning.
It seemed like no-one had stayed there for a long time and they hadn't cleaned it before we arrived. We told them this and they came and cleaned it when we left so we were probably just unluckily.
If you stay here then the top switch outside the bathroom with a sticker on is an immersion water heater which you need to leave on for an hour or so before you can have a hot shower. The bath which looks awesome is a bit of a let down too as we tried twice to get enough hot water but only managed to get a few inches of hot water in the bath before it went cold.
Great location, beautiful apartment, good hosts. Main challenge was the climbing up to the apartment especially with our bags.
Comfortable apartment, great location, helpful an available hosts.
