'Chivy Chase' is an original log miners cabin set in the beautiful Australian Bush.
Sit back and listen to the kookaburras and if you are lucky you might spot the resident wombat in the backyard.
The house consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 small sun-rooms, bathroom and the original cabin which has a further 2 beds, kitchenette and living area. There is also a small log cabin out-building called 'Dillie Dorrie' with a double bed which can be used in summer.
The log cabin was built early last century and various rooms have been added over the years, hence its non-conventional layout. The 2nd bedroom has to be entered via the first.
The house is full of rustic charm and it’s a wonderful place for getting back to nature. We have deliberately not put in a phone or internet connection, nor TV reception.
However, there is a small TV with a selection of DVD's and lots of magazines to read.
There is an open fire in the cabin and portable column heaters in the (website hidden) facilities include; small oven and 2 burner stove, microwave, electric frying pan and sandwich maker.
There is also an outdoor area and BBQ, it's great to sit out the back and admire the bush and wildlife.
The property is within 10 minutes walk of the famous St Erth gardens and a great base to explore the surrounding areas including Trentham and Daylesford. There are lots of great bush walks nearby.
There are plenty of doonas, blankets and pillows, but please bring your own sheets or sleeping bags, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. There is 1 queen and 3 single beds, plus if needed 2 single beds in the cabin. In summer the double bed in Dillie Dorrie can be used.
We look forward to hearing from you.
My girlfriend and I had a nice relaxing time staying at the cabin. The cabin was cosy and well-equipped - the fire held well, but a couple portable heaters were a welcomed bonus. Blackwood is a lovely town. Be sure to visit The Merchant cafe/deli in town. Thanks.
This was a lovely house and a very easy booking experience. Everything we needed to know to book, arrive and stay at the house was explained well. The facilities were just what we wanted and the plentiful doonas and firewood helped with the chilly days and nights. Highly recommend this little cabin as a lovely retreat and convenient base to explore the surrounding countryside.
This cosy little cabin was absolutely great! It was near freezing up there and the open fire was the saviour of our weekend. So great to just pull up in front of it and play some board games with a few bottles of wine. Definitely a must do and look forward to staying here again (hopefully we pick a slightly warmer time!). We spotted the neighbourhood wombat too which was a special surprise. Thoroughly recommend for a cosy weekend away.
Colin and Joy were great hosts - they made it very easy and gave us some great tips about the local area and things to do. Their place in Blackwood is cosy, simple and has everything you need, complete with a beautiful fireplace and endless firewood!
A hidden gem within the beautiful Wombat State Forest. Well-equipped, yet simple and cosy, my 5 friends and I could not have asked for more. Memories of chatting over wine in front of the log fire will remain until our next visit.
This cabin is just delightful! The location is walking distance to some beautiful walks in the Lerderderg State forest. It has a warm and cozy cabin space with an open fire. Perfect for reading, chatting, enjoying a glass of wine and playing trivial pursuit!
Myself and two friends thoroughly enjoyed our time at Blackwood and exploring the surrounding areas. It's a great spot for heading into Daylesford as well. Highly recommended! Thank you Colin and Joy!
Our stay at the cabin was great! Colin and Joy made us feel very welcome and were very clear and prompt commnicators. They were also very helpful in regards to sending clear and detailed instructions and directions. The cabin is in a beautiful and peaceful spot with some fun walking tracks within walking distance. The cabin itself accommodated five of us with no hassles and was comfortable and warm. The OFP was the best, with plenty of wood available to burn. The kitchen facilities were aplenty.
I highly recommend this place and would consider returning. Many thanks to Colin and Joy for their wonderful services.
The cabin was cosy with one of the best open fires we have come across.
It was great that the cabin was in walking distance to St Erth Garden (Diggers Club) and a short drive to Blackwood township, both had welcoming cafes. We also visited Daylesford, where we had a wonderful meal at Kazuki, and Trentham's RedBeard bakery, which had the best fruit toast ever.
Thanks for sharing your cabin Colin and Joy.
Thanks for a relaxing few days in a lovley bush location. We liked Blackwood, especially the proximity to walking tracks. The cabin was comfortable, cooking facilities a bit basic, so although we were fine (just a couple) it would be harder for a family. I recommended the cabin to my daughter and family (3 children) then said maybe the lack of full size stove and very old power supply might be a bit hard for her.
Overall though, the price and location were ideal for us!
We had a wonderful stay at the very cosy and charming miners cottage. It was a perfect spot for visiting Woodend and the great Cosmopolitan Hotel in Trentham. And not to mention the wonderful Garden of St Erth a short walk up the hill. Out dog loved it too, although disappointed to not come face to face with a wombat :) thanks Colin and Joy.
