'Chivy Chase' is an original log miners cabin set in the beautiful Australian Bush.
Sit back and listen to the kookaburras and if you are lucky you might spot the resident wombat in the backyard.
The house consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 small sun-rooms, bathroom and the original cabin which has a further 2 beds, kitchenette and living area. There is also a small log cabin out-building called 'Dillie Dorrie' with a double bed which can be used in summer.
The log cabin was built early last century and various rooms have been added over the years, hence its non-conventional layout. The 2nd bedroom has to be entered via the first.
The house is full of rustic charm and it’s a wonderful place for getting back to nature. We have deliberately not put in a phone or internet connection, nor TV reception.
However, there is a small TV with a selection of DVD's and lots of magazines to read.
There is an open fire in the cabin and portable column heaters in the (website hidden) facilities include; very small oven and 2 burner stove, microwave, electric frying pan, slow cooker and sandwich maker.
There is also an outdoor area and BBQ (in shed). It's great to sit out the back and admire the bush and wildlife.
The property is within 10 minutes walk of the famous St Erth gardens and a great base to explore the surrounding areas including Trentham and Daylesford. There are lots of great bush walks nearby.
There are plenty of doonas, blankets and pillows, but please bring your own sheets or sleeping bags, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. There is 1 queen and 3 single beds, plus if needed 2 single beds in the cabin. In summer the double bed in Dillie Dorrie can be used.
We look forward to hearing from you.
The listing was very accurate! It's s simple place surrounded by bush.
Great stay at the Old Miner's Cottage. Colin and Joy provided extensive directions and details, so finding it was no trouble. Cosy and comfortable, the cottage made a great base to explore the surrounding area, and a welcoming space to return to after a day out.
We loved our stay at Blackwood! It is such a magical spot tucked in amongst the forest with a plethora of bush walks in the area. Joy & Colin have been fantastic from the get-go, with regular communication and being especially accommodating (organising an extra bed and helping out with the return of a forgotten bottle of whisky!). The cabin is super cosy and clean and hospitable - the open fire a particular treat :) Highly recommend.
Great stay. Close to all the action near daylesford but quiet enough for some seclusion and tranquility
We had a fantastic time at the cabin. There is a lot to do in the area and we made the most of that. A visit to Red Beard bakery was delicious and the bread was the best sourdough I think I've ever eaten. Also Garden of St Erth was delightful and inspired me to do more gardening! The cabin was well set up and perfect for a cosy gathering of friends. Thank-you
Colin and Joy's cabin was the perfect place for a weekend getaway. We had a great weekend with a few friends by the fire, nice bush walks and a cafe just down the road. Everything was comfortable and the whole trip was seamless with Colin and Joys info and help along the way. We will definitely be keeping this on on the favorites list!
Staying at Colin & Joy's cabin and Blackwood was a delightful weekend away. Great communication from start to finish made the place easy to find and get into. The cabin, location and log-fire lived up to all expectations. Plenty of firewood ready and waiting, cabin equipped with everything we might need, sun room that really did trap the sun and warm up even when it was freezing (snow temperatures!) outside. Oh, and an amazing selection of teas in the cabin!
A few hundred metres walk to St Erth garden and cafe, walking tracks in Wombat forest (we saw kangaroos but no wombats) and the tiny Blackwood township. Cosy, simple, tranquil. We loved it so much we abandoned plans to visit Daylesford and Ballarat and just stayed in Blackwood, walking and hanging out in front of the fire.
Hi, we are a couple in our early 60's with 2 grown-up children.
When not travelling the world, we enjoy bush walking, reading and relaxing at our holiday house in Blackwood, Victoria.
