This was the work room for the Augustine monks in the 17th century and was followed up as atelier for artists residing at the chateau. One notices the suitable floor boards and a thriving energy. The bathroom is situated in a tower and has a tub on feet and large rain-shower.
This medieval dream castle is smack in the middle of France, in south Burgundy. Full of history and charm it is the epitome of a real French experience. Peace, authenticity and energy is what this site promises. Once inhabited by an Augustinian monastic community and noblesse, it breathes its past to the rolling hills surrounding it. Nine hundred hectares of woods provide for walks, horse-riding and picnicking along serene rivers connecting lovely villages at every angle. This is truly France without the crowd and hassles one finds in most areas during the holidays...
The village nearby at 3.5 km is St. Gengoux-le-National, with its cozy medieval streets, shops and restaurants. There is also a once believed "miraculous" fountain of youth loved by the king himself in 1793. The best way to get here is by bike, and in fact the famous Voie Vertes that takes one over an old railroad 70 km from Chalon-sur-Saone to Macon through crisp countrysides, stops at this village.
There is something to do for everyone in the area, from fishing to visiting archaeological sites, ballooning, wine-tasting and culinary adventures at some of the best restaurants in the world, to visiting famous destinations such as Beaune, Cluny, Taize and Tournus. There is also lots to do for the children at several fun parks that make it a complete vacation for all. It is also perfectly situated for before or after driving down south, although after you discover the secrets of Burgundy, you wouldn't have to go down south at all!
We have rooms at the castle itself with ensuite towers and great efforts are made to respect the origin of the building. There is also a "Gite" with a surface area of 140m². This cozy cottage has a balcony looking over a pond of Koi carp. It features a large complete kitchen warmed by a Godin wooden stove, bathroom with an original bathtub on feet, and rustic living room with fireplace. It sleeps up to four adults and two children.
Please note that smokers are kindly requested to smoke outside.
My family and I loved this place and we ticked of staying in a castle of our life time list. Charming host and serene location. We would have liked to have stayed longer. Highly recommended.
Unique experience. We loved roaming around the grounds, taking the dogs for a morning walk... Where else can you stay in a castle for this price... There are some rough edges here and there, as a full restoration would be an enormous cost I'm sure, but we found our room quite comfortable. Breakfast was great too!
A truly remarkable and unique place to visit. Very comfortable accommodations in a beautiful and well preserved castle in the country side. The hostess is an artist and one of the old farm buildings has been turned into a gallery. There was a very international feel to the place and we met very interesting people. I wish we could have stayed longer and I will definitely return.
My wife, daughter and I had a very nice and comfortable time at Chateau de Burnand. Jeane was a wonderful host and made us feel at home. The Chateau is an amazing property full of great art and sculptures.
Jeane was so lovely and the setting was just amazing - the art work was mind blowing and we couldn't have asked for anything more. Breakfast was fantastic and it was awesome to meet other guests and hear stories of the heritage of the castle and surrounding areas. Would highly recommend.
The castle is amazing and in a beautiful region, I would recommend for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Staying in the castle is a really unique experience and I want to thank Jeane for being a lovely host and cooking a great meal! Good company and relaxed and friendly.

Anyone loving art, history and who is warm-hearted will enjoy feeling the energy that this property brings. Myself, I have traveled all my life and understand the need of feeling at home wherever one is, this feeling is universal and attainable through humanitarian hospitality and understanding. I enjoy sharing my undying enthusiasm about life and its wonders, the source of which we search wherever we go, so many things to tell, so much to see, so much to experience and when we think we're there, it is still a long way to go...
