This was the work room for the Augustine monks in the 17th century and was followed up as atelier for artists residing at the chateau. One notices the suitable floor boards and a thriving energy. The bathroom is situated in a tower and has a tub on feet and large rain-shower.
This medieval dream castle is smack in the middle of France, in south Burgundy. Full of history and charm it is the epitome of a real French experience. Peace, authenticity and energy is what this site promises. Once inhabited by an Augustinian monastic community and noblesse, it breathes its past to the rolling hills surrounding it. Nine hundred hectares of woods provide for walks, horse-riding and picnicking along serene rivers connecting lovely villages at every angle. This is truly France without the crowd and hassles one finds in most areas during the holidays...
The village (email hidden) is St. Gengoux-le-National, with its cozy medieval streets, shops and restaurants. There is also a once believed "miraculous" fountain of youth loved by the king himself in 1793. The best way to get here is by bike, and in fact the famous Voie Vertes that takes one over an old railroad 70 km from Chalon-sur-Saone to Macon through crisp countrysides, stops at this village.
There is something to do for everyone in the area, from fishing to visiting archaeological sites, ballooning, wine-tasting and culinary adventures at some of the best restaurants in the world, to visiting famous destinations such as Beaune, Cluny, Taize and Tournus. There is also lots to do for the children at several fun parks that make it a complete vacation for all. It is also perfectly situated for before or after driving down south, although after you discover the secrets of Burgundy, you wouldn't have to go down south at all!
We have rooms at the castle itself with ensuite towers and great efforts are made to respect the origin of the building. There is also a "Gite" with a surface area of 140m². This cozy cottage has a balcony looking over a pond of Koi carp. It features a large complete kitchen warmed by a Godin wooden stove, bathroom with an original bathtub on feet, and rustic living room with fireplace. It sleeps up to four adults and two children.
The castle is amazing and in a beautiful region, I would recommend for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Staying in the castle is a really unique experience and I want to thank Jeane for being a lovely host and cooking a great meal! Good company and relaxed and friendly.
What an amazing place Chateau de Burnand is!
Jeane was a brilliant host and had some great stories to tell.
It’s clear she is a well-travelled interesting lady - And we will definitely be back to visit again next year.
Its a shame we were only there for x1 night, as could have stayed and soaked up the history for weeks!
Thank you Jeane - and see you next year!

Jeane is a wonderful host ; she makes her castle a special place; would come back for sure
We had an amazing stay at Jeane's castle in burgundy, we were lucky enough to catch a 20 man classical music concert from holland perform in one of the amazing renovated out buildings on the night of our arrival. The location is great for visiting local wineries and enjoying the region. The castle is decorated with art and has its own character that sets it apart from many other places. Looking forward to stopping in again.
We had an amazing time staying at the Chateau de Burnand. It is a very special building steeped in history. The room we had (the Rose room) was massive and had its own en-suite tower room!
Jeane is the best host you could imagine, nothing was too much trouble. We opted to have a meal at the Chateau (sitting at the big table in the dining room with other guests) and this turned out to be one of the high points of our trip. Jeane is a fantastic cook and it was very nice to meet the other guests from around the world. Really special!
Wow! I'm definitely coming back! What an incredible spiritual oasis! I'm only sorry that there was not enough time! See you again soon xxx
We spent our week-long honeymoon at this enchanting chateau. We could not have chosen a better place for this occasion! Jeane was a lovely host, great fun and helpful in every way. The building is so full of history and magical rooms, the room we had was a pure pleasure to wake up in. Great breakfast and really sweet dogs!
The setting is a country dream and there's so much to do in the region - Chateau Burnand has everything one could want from a trip to Burgundy!
We enjoyed every second and recommend it to everyone - thank you Jeane!
This is a truly rich and interesting place. Nestled in the tiny village of Burnand near Cluny in southern Burgundy, the Chateau itself is an imposing feature - A huge 'sleeping beauty' castle with amazing rooms including the Rose room which we stayed in. Beautifully decorated, retaining so much of the original character but with all the mod-cons including piping hot shower and wifi.
There's also great walks right from the Chateau along Roman paths so you can really explore the area.
Jeane was a lovely host and we would definitely stay here again
