Ingleside Farm, in the gently rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is on lands that have been in our family for three centuries. And you are cordially invited to stay at the Guest House, circa 1821.
Here, you can enjoy complete privacy on the east side of the farm, the gorgeous countryside of central Virginia’s piedmont region, and the convenience of being near the historic towns of Orange, Gordonsville and Charlottesville.
Attractions such as Barboursville Vineyards, James Madison’s Montpelier Plantation and some excellent restaurants are just minutes away. Ingleside is also convenient for day trips with Charlottesville, UVA, and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello all just 20-30 minutes away. Shenendoah National park is 33 minutes away and offers excellent hiking and scenery along the skyline drive.
The nine-room Guest House includes, downstairs, the original kitchen with stone-hearth fireplace, dining room, small library, living room with working fireplace, and master bedroom with full bath. Upstairs are three bedrooms and a full bath.
The house is available for both short and longer-term rentals as well as receptions and weddings.
Our family just returned from a glorious getaway weekend at Susanne's farmhouse. Susanne could not have been more accessible or accommodating to our family's needs, including the 7 month old. We had plenty of room inside and outside...enjoyed seeing cattle through the kitchen windows at breakfast time, relaxing outdoors on the porches, in the hammock or under the magnificent shade trees. Comfy beds and great country kitchen. We all want to return asap!
Susanne was the perfect hostess. She thoughtfully confirmed the reservation a week before hand and gave great directions. She came out and met me at the house when I arrived. That extra attention made me feel so welcome. When I drove up to the house it was even better than what I was expecting. It is set far down a long winding drive way in the middle of a working farm. At night it is so quiet and peaceful. And the stars. Oh My!! My daughters loved waking up to cows mooing in the morning. The kitchen is well stocked, Susanne left us a yummy orange cranberry bread and lots of different waters and bottled drinks. All the bedrooms were spacious and immaculately clean. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with lots of fluffy towels and lovely smelling soaps. This country cottage was the perfect escape for my family. We look forward to our next visit to Charlottesville and to this lovely Country Cottage. Thank you so much Susanne for opening up your wonderful home to us. Milissa
The cottage was a perfect getaway for my graduation weekend! With several common sitting areas and a nice grassy lawn with a hammock, we enjoyed every minute. The children loved to see the cows walking along the fenced area. It is just a few miles from Montpelier (which is closed on Mondays), stoneonefire kitchen (which has some of the best sandwiches around (email hidden) and wine selection), and the barboursville wineries. Suzanne was even kind enough to leave pastries, juice and fruit for the group to have breakfast. The house had a stinkbug here and there but nothing else that I can complain about! We had a great time. Would love to come back to ingleside again!
This (email hidden) to relax in the pastoral Virginia countryside. The historic house has lots of comfortable nooks and crannies. It is well ventilated and we did not need to use the air conditioning when the afternoon temperatures were in the mid-80s. The kitchen has everything you need, and a beautiful view of the garden, pastures, and woods. Susanne made sure we were taken care of, but was careful not to intrude. A great experience.
Susanne was so easy going and helpful as a host and Ingleside is beyond wonderful--I didn't want to leave! The house has everything you need for long family dinners, game nights by the fire, and slow breakfasts out on the porch. We made great use of the hammock, tree swing, "fire pit", and enjoyed a long walk around the land down to the pond. Watching the nightly parade of cows from the fields up to the barn for dinner was more soothing than the sea. And the house is a good location for visiting Montecello and Montpelier. Again, Susanne was really helpful with all our pre-arrival questions. We can't wait to come back again!
Ingleside (email hidden) to stay. Susanne, the host, was welcoming and informative. The location is beautiful and full of history, which we all found facinating. It was fun exploring the house and looking at all the historical pictures. The cottage itself is wondrefully decorated and very comfortable. Note that the bathrooms are modern, but not perfectly redone, so don't expect pristine marble and granite. We only had 4 people so there was plenty of space and each couple had its own bathroom. The water pressure was great and we did not have problems with 4 showers in a row! The hearth fireplace in the kitchen is original from the 1800's and the kitchen (email hidden) to have morning coffee and breakfast before starting the day (Susanne event left fresh tangerines and bananas for us!). The kitchen was chilly in the morning, but it heated up very quickly with the gas fireplace. There is plenty to do in the area and we were out most of the time during the days. Note that this is the country so be prepared for bugs (like stink bugs, wasps) especially as the weather gets warm. It was not really an issue, but I could see how some people would be concerned about an occasional stink bug in the (email hidden)ven the paucity of unique and nice places to stay in Charlottesville, we were very relieved to find Ingleside and really enjoyed our stay.
Our weekend stay at Ingleside was everything we could have hoped for! The house and the surrounding area are just beautiful. We were a group of 8 friends and family who were visiting the area this time for the Charlottesville Marathon. Ingleside was a perfect location, minutes from two vineyards (Barboursville and Horton), 10 - 15 minutes from several great places to eat (BBQ Exchange, The Light Well, etc. - I'd like to try Stonefire soon), and 30 minutes from downtown Charlottesville. The house is just wonderful, with so much preserved history and everything you could possibly need. Susanne was terrific, checking-in to make sure we arrived and had everything we needed. I would highly recommend Ingleside and hope to stay here again.
Susanne is an extremely welcoming host. She was there for check-in to provide us with some information about the house and local attractions. Other than that we had complete privacy.
The house is beyond words! Tastefully decorated and beautifully maintained. We were a group of 8 and felt completely comfortable in this spacious home. The pictures do not do it justice. We spent most of our time in the spacious country kitchen by the fire place. The library was also one of our favorite spots.
The house is very close to Barboursville vineyards and Montpelier. Definitely recommend this house for a wonderful getaway.
Thanks again Susanne!
Staying at Susan's Cottage was an extremely rewarding/relaxing experience. This cottage in nestled in the greenery rural area of Gordonsville. We were literally taken back in time as this house is filled with the rich history of the Ingleside Farm. We honestly did not want to leave. We especially enjoyed the fireplaces accompanied by the cozy bedrooms and large country kitchen. What a breath-taking experience. I absolutely Loved staying here. Thanks Susanne for helping me with my luggage to the Car:-). Warmest and in Good Health- Akeeka
What a lovely home Susanne has made available for her guests! The location is wonderful. The house is a couple of miles from several wineries (including Horton and Barboursville) and it's just down the road from Montpelier as well. Charlottesville is about 1/2 hour away and very accessible. The house is very clean and tidy, and so thoughtfully outfitted. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking real meals and Susanne was even kind enough to leave us breakfast items and set up a fire in the living room fireplace before we arrived. Our group of seven was extremely comfortable and never had to worry about running out of dishes or places to sit.
One additional item of note: there is a bedroom and attached bath on the first floor so this would be a wonderful location for a multi-generational family gathering to celebrate a college graduation, wedding or similar event.
Thank you again, Susanne! We couldn't have asked (email hidden) to spend the weekend and we hope to come back soon!
