Joan and Ronald were very welcoming and I enjoyed chatting with them over some meals during my stay. The place is great and very peaceful. I enjoyed the beautiful pool area and also got a massage one day, which I would recommend. Great getaway from Kampala without having to travel far at all. And nice french press coffee with breakfast.
Beautiful place by the lake. Extraordinary wildlife sounds at nighttime.
Felt safe. Great BBQ. Amazing massage.
Strongly recommend staying here..
Buy great meat and african craftwork at Quality Cuts in Kabalagala. For shopping mall with good food and deli - Uchumi in Freedom City.
Car rental - recommend Roadtrip Uganda - Dutch run company. Otherwise watch out for white clad traffic cops!
Ugandans are a lovely people - though you have one or two rude ones - but don't we all! Enjoy.
We had a great stay at the Yellow Haven. The apartment is very beautiful, location is close to Lake Victoria which is very nice. Also, Ronald gave us many suggestions on what to do around: visiting the market is recommended.
However, before arriving we agreed that there would be an airport pick up and that we would check in very early (plane arrived at 4am, leaving open the exact check in time). When arriving in Entebbe, no taxi was arranged. So we needed to find a taxi in the middle of the night in an unknown city...
When we arrived at Yellow Haven (5:30am), only the night guard was awake. Since he did not have the keys for our apartment, we needed to sleep in the sauna until Ronald woke up. More than having an uncomfortable night, the denial of our agreement for early check in was what struck us most.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Yellow Haven and the balance turned out positively. Just make sure that the airport pick up is confirmed.
We had a great time at Yellow Haven (Upper apartment), just didn't want to leave...! Joan and Ronald are great hosts and great fun, they know a lot and provide you with all the information to make your stay just unforgettable. We will come back any time soon and would recommend this place to all our friends and family!
It was a pleasure to stay with Joan and Ron. Joan was helpful in coming to get us when we were lost, finding their place is hard if you are not local. The accommodation was an Oasis for us in Kampala, they provided local, authentic experiences we will cherish forever. The facilities are wonderful and they treated us like friends come to stay which suited us perfectly. We recommend Yellow Haven resort to anyone. Venn and Gini.
Words are not enough to describe my overall experience from spending a week at Yellow Haven. Going in, I felt like I had made the right decision considering how responsive Joan and Ronald were to their emails even weeks before my arrival. They responded to emails almost on the hour and were both very helpful in making all necessary arrangements prior to my arrival.
I fell in love not only with my apartment but every aspect of Yellow Haven - the staff where extremely friendly, super clean unit (laundry got picked up, washed and folded), fresh towels in bathroom, mosquito spray with air freshner (it was like home away from home) stocked refrigerator (Joan will even take your order and get you whatever type of meat you would like to barbeque), very hot water when you needed it and extremely comfortable bed with the most secure mosquito net I've ever seen.
I initially worried about the drive from the apartment to City Center but I soon learned that my 30 - 45 min commute was no different. I made sure to leave between 8 and 9 AM and tried returning back to the apartment before evening rush hour.
At the end of my trip, I felt like I should have paid more for my overall experience beacuse I did not feel like I had left home at all. Not only did I enjoy my stay here, I ended up making what could be life long friends out of Joan and Ronald.

About the Host, Joan & Ronald
Ronald Scheer (Dutch) and Joan Kelly (Irish) have lived in Kampala together now for 8 years. They have a IT company and outsource work from mainly Europe and the US.
Joan was born in Dublin and arrived the first time in Africa helping out for an Irish NGO during the Rwanda genocide in 1996.
Ronald was born in Tristan da Cunha and lived for 10 years in Africa before moving to the Netherlands where he studied Economics and Computer Science. He then worked internationaly for Philips, Digital Equipment, Compaq and HP before starting his own IT company in Netherlands in 2002 and arrived via this company for the first time in Uganda in 2005.
Both of them are also very different as Joan is a great singer and loves to work with people. She is also president of the Irish society in Uganda and chairwoman of Hospice Uganda.
Ronald on the otherhand loves exploring nature and trying out new technical things. Uganda is great for this, it gave him the opertunity to build a boat, infinity pool, lodges, enhancing the wetlands, setting up hiking and cycling tracks etc... While doing this he was also able in transfering the knowledge to local Ugandans to whom this gave them new business opertunities.
