Interaction with Guests
Hello, thank you for choosing a Sunset House and Gardens apartment. I'm Vicki, the owner. In your room you will find a guide book that gives you a lot of useful info. Internet Codes, fun things to see and do, how to get around, local grocery stores etc. I have lived in the area for 40 years and I'm happy to give recommendations! You can call or text me at (phone number hidden), or just stop me when you see me in the garden!
A little about the garden. Everything here is organic and edible, medicinal or useful in some way. My garden does not look like a traditional English style garden because I practice a system/lifestyle called permaculture. In a nutshell, a permanent culture that renews itself naturally. Feel free to wander around, use the sitting areas and gas grill. It is not uncommon to see an Egret hunting for his dinner in the garden. We are also home to the endangered Monarch Butterflies. During your stay you are likely to see Oreo, a rescue bunny who lives in the garden. She is allowed to roam free. She enjoys human companionship but doesn't like to be picked up or pet. In the late afternoon I let the chickens out to free range on the front side of the parking lot. Your welcome to join them in their mayhem! I have soil restoration projects, rain water harvesting and composting on site. I'm happy to give garden tours and to gardening tips and advice upon request (to anyone who will listen). Yes, I'm bragging...If it can be grown, I can grow it!
Bus stop is just steps away.
Other Things to Note

Please take out trash before you leave. Sometimes it's a day or so before housekeeping comes in. Have a great vacation!
Das kleiner Apartment ist genau wie in der Beschreibung beschrieben. Alles was man zum täglichen Leben benötigt. Ich kann es definitiv weiterempfehlen und würde jeder Zeit wieder kommen.
We enjoyed our stay at the Clearwater cottage. As others have said, Vicki goes out of the way to provide several amenities that a hotel would never supply.
The fact that she left us with beach chairs, an umbrella and beach towels was a huge hit with us as we took them to Clearwater Beach. (Note there is a new ferry that goes to Clearwater beach for $3 from downtown). She even left some beach toys for our 6 month old son. It was also very helpful that she left a playpen for him to sleep in.
It should be noted that this cottage is very small. I expected it to be small but I think it was even smaller than I expected. I would estimate it as being 150-200 SF. If I had been by myself I think I would have been fine, but with a couple and a baby we found it to be a little tight on space at times.
As others have said, the bed is very hard. The first night I found this to be very uncomfortable, but I got used to it somewhat on the later nights.
The bathroom door is a sliding closet door off the kitchen that doesn't seal and the bathroom does not have a fan. A fan or a more secure door would have provided for a bit more privacy.
We went for a few walks around the neighbourhood. We found the area directly south of the cottage to be a little run down and seedy. Walking to the north towards Dunedin led us to some much better areas. It was nice to be so close to Dunedin, as we walked to a Blue Jays spring training game.
Despite the bed and tight space, we enjoyed our stay and might stay again if we were in the area.
This cottage is in a good location with easy access to downtown Dunedin and Clearwater Beach. The bed was comfortable, and Vicki was very responsive to the issues we encountered. The small kitchen is great and the amenities like beach chairs were a nice touch.
Unfortunately, there are some cleanliness and pest issues. The bathroom has black mold on the baseboard near the shower, and a faint (but noticeable) stench. The windows in the kitchen had a good amount of mildew around them. Ants appeared in the kitchen on the 2nd day (which Vicki provided some spray for).
But on our last morning, we found two fleas in our bed, one on my wife's pillow (and a bite on her foot), and that was that. We packed up quickly and checked out early. I felt bad for leaving a couple dishes in the sink and towels strewn about, but I had no desire to stay in a room with fleas.
I usually adhere to the guest is always right. This time is not one of them. If there were fleas they picked them up wherever they stayed before. That unit had no pets in it for 2 months. Then it was empty for 2 days. If there were fleas in that unit those fleas would of made a fest on them the moment the door was opened. Not upon check out.
My housekeeper and I spent hours after they left sitting on the carpet repainting the baseboards and we did not see one flea. Odd that they said the place was great then wanted to complain when they left. I was in touch with them the entire time due to many texts from them.
Spring time in Florida does bring ants especially after a rain. Which can only be treated when they arrive. All my properties are professionally sprayed quarterly with organic pesticide.
Odd that these guest said they really liked the place then complained upon check out.
This cute little studio cottage was just what the doctor ordered! We were able to prepare dinner, watch a movie, use the WiFi and enjoy the tropical back yard under some banana trees. It was perfect for unwinding and chilling out, but close enough to walk to cute downtown Dunedin for dinner or a drink. Vicky is the consummate host, responsive and caring.
Vicki welcomed us to her bnb as if we were long lost relatives. Not only did she make us feel welcome, but her other guests were a pleasure to meet and socialize with. The location was safe, near the Gulf and the Pinellas Trail and an easy drive to Caldesi and Honeymoon Island. We highly recommend staying with Vicki Conrad and her associates. This includes her highly reserved Rabbit, and very busy Chickens (3), and beautiful organic garden. Bill & Carly Gebhardt.
Our stay at Vicki`s charming studio was our best airbnb experience to date. Her attention to detail and hospitality are exemplary. She not only graciously loaned us her bikes but gave us valuable insight to local activities and events as well as information on her experience with permaculture in action and her environmentally friendly lifestyle. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone staying in the Clearwater, Florida area.
Paid for a girlfriends getaway for my wife and her friend.
Yes, Vicki did make my wife and her friend welcome! She shared interesting information about her garden and the area's happenings. Very cute little place, exactly as pictured. Easy to find and close to the town Dunedin. Just down the road from the beach. I would recommend staying with Vicki!

About the Host, Vicki
Hi, welcome to Florida! I'm as low key and easy going as it gets. I love nature and have a big, edible garden behind the apartments. I also enjoy kayaking, art, books, theater, crafts and of course having fun with my family and friends.
My favorite vacation was a road trip out west with my camper and my dog. It lasted three months and I hiked all over Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. What scenery!
Being an Airbnb host has been an amazing experience. I've enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people. I love having college students around! Ask about my intern discount!
