My stay with RaMona LaRoache was outstanding.. RaMona 's bed and breakfast is wonderfully decorated, you will be at home. Ms. La Roache
does everything with style and grace. I enjoyed my stay with her, she is a lot
of fun and loves to go to the best restaurants, cultural events, and is an complete historian in her own right. Her bed and breakfast inn is very neat and clean, peaceful and with great decorations. She encourages you to explore South Carolina and learn as much as you can. i had such and great time with her especially at the Gullah Museum and the beaches. I was introduced to the past and the present of the Gullah life, which I was searching for. Because of RaMona I want to return back to Murrel's Inlet and stay at Seafood Haven. Indeed this is a very special place. You will not be disappointed at all.
I stayed at Ramona's place over the 4th of July weekend, and she was very responsive and very nice. I only rented the small single bed/room so cannot speak to the other larger bedroom.
Pros: The home/apartment/condo was well situated in Murrell's Inlet off of Hwy 17 and I felt comfortable leaving several thousand dollars of scuba gear in my truck overnight. The place was clean and I had a private bath, linens, shampoo/soap and a few shelves in the refrigerator for my use. Ramona personally met me at the door and offered a bag of flyers for local entertainment and eateries. And for the single room/bed I rented the price was right!
Cons: 1) The air conditioning did not work and the house was 80+ degrees most days and only slightly less at night. It is summer at the beach, so A/C is a must have for most renters, or the home should be advertised as not having A/C so renters know what to expect. Ramona did state she does not use it and had not turned it on since last year and would have it investigated. 2) There is no television service at the house although there is a TV. Perhaps not a big deal, but given that it was a hurricane weekend it would have been nice to watch the news instead of going to Best Buy or a restaurant or my smartphone. Ramona did mention she had little interest in TV and had not had the service turned on. 3) There was no operational DVD player - all commercial DVD's (some I brought and a few that were already there) came back as "No Disk", although there was a VCR player (which I did not touch). I also did not have any dresser storage for my clothes so just worked out of my luggage. I could have emptied a few drawers of blankets and other items but did not feel comfortable rearranging too much. So no A/C, no TV and no way to relax watching movies meant that I spent every minute away from the home and only returned to sleep and shower.
One other note is that Ramona stayed at her home at least one night while I was present. This was not an issue for me personnaly, and Airbnb homes are a mix and I have encountered both scenarios, but it might be worth mentioning in the listing. Again, not a problem per se, but noteworthy for travellers who might expect to have the place to themselves.
Overall the stay was not as great as it should have been due to the reasons above, and although most days are spent at the beach or local activities, I think it is reasonable to expect cool air and a bit of television in the evening from any rental property. All that said, the Amenities section on the listing does not have those basic items checked so perhaps it was my expectations at fault here.
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
In general, I was very satisfied and can definitely recommend staying at Ramona's house.
Initially I planned to stay for 3 night but due to an incident of a friend, I had to leave after the 1st night. I expected understanding and goodwill of my early leaving and therefore partial repayment for the day I could not use. Due to this, it was then a very expensive stay for me. But I understand that the according to the initial agreement, it is Ramona's right not to refund any amount.
We were very satisfied by the way Ramona had set up her house for us and it was such a comforting feeling to stay there. The house has the perfect blend of culture and comfort. It isnt far away from the beach and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again!!
Ramona was a great host, and my girlfriend and I had a great time staying in her lovely home. The condo is in a great location being super close to Huntington State Park and Brookgreen Gardens. It is also a short drive from Broadway at the Beach.
The condo was easy to locate and parking was convenient to the front door. Although we only spent two nights there (and not much time at the condo), Ramona made us feel comfortable and right at home. The unit is in a very convenient location and beach access was just a short drive. Ramona was gracious hostess and had basket of bagels and fruit and bottled water available to us.. She also had beach umbrellas available for our use. We didn't have an opportunity to use the facilities that were offered at the condo, but everything appeared to be very clean and well maintained. I would rate our stay as a positive experience and would stay there again if I travel through the area.
