With one of the best views in Ubud, Luxury Villa Jiwa is a gorgeous one bedroom villa hideaway for up to two people with en-suite garden bathroom and gourmet kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped for casual food preparation or a more elaborate dinner.
The villa has a spacious bedroom with a canopied oversized queen bed and rich wooden decor leading to a lovely garden bathroom of terrazzo and granite featuring a rain shower. Located with a stunning view to the west and surrounded by gardens on both side it's steps away from the beautiful infinity pool.
Villa Jiwa includes a private sitting/lounging area and deck. One of the favorites of our guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice and experience a Bali Sunrise right from your private deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
Villa Jiwa is your own private world yet steps away from Harmony's 15 meter infinity pool through Harmony's lush landscaping. The Harmony pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central to all the Harmony villas yet large enough for privacy. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
Our on site villa staff will help you with all your needs from arranging wonderful daily cooked breakfasts (if ordered), tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud.
We can also provide a daily cooked breakfast prepared in your villa each morning of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day. If you would like to change breakfast times, please ensure you notify our villa manager at check in so we can accommodate you. Staff at the villa can also help arrange tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! Staff can organize lunch or evening dinning in your villa which is truly one of our guests’ favorite experiences. Just ask our staff at check in and they'll be glad to take good care of you.
Villa Jiwa is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2.5 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
Lodtunduh, a quiet location where the villagers can often be seen grooming their fighting cocks, drying rice on the road, or participating in the numerous religious festivals.
It's slightly cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Jiwa has a powerful overhead fan and a high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
Your villa stay includes tea and coffee service, free wifi, a laptop sized safe, towels, TV for watching DVDs, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, a yoga deck, sun loungers and the priceless ambiance of the Harmony lifestyle.
Although we welcome children (our pool has a children's bathing area), Harmony isn't designed specifically as a child safe property so you will need to be responsible for them at all times.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days) We do not have a set check in or out time to meet your needs if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.
*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.

... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddys! Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It’s one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali as I travel extensively myself, but our staff are really wonderful and will treat you like family. If I'm lucky to be staying while you're there, I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals. but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight – although you may not approve, it’s very much a part of village culture. If you want you can wager and maybe win!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!
Other Things to Note
A note on Internet. Bali is improving rapidly in this area and while we have hi speed internet and it is generally good, the service hasn't been 100% reliable in the Ubud area with occasional outages. As of May 2014 we will have a fiberoptic connection which will improve the service to western standards, we are told by Telkom, the government provider.
Villa Jiwa is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation. Please also note that although we love children Harmony is not a child safe property.
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival.
We had a great time at Harmony villas. :Warning: It is a little further than we thought outside of the center of Ubud (which is fine if you would like to get away from of Ubud but still be close enough to visit) But we would suggest renting a scooter or getting a reliable drivers to call when you would like to go out.
We had a few delayed planes so we arrived a day & 1/2 later than expected. I kept the manager up to date and they relayed the message to the driver they arranged for airport pick up.
upon arrival they had a delicious breakfast for us. The villa is beautiful. Steps away from the infinity pool. Its a minimalist design, very open to nature, with an outdoor shower. We really enjoyed waking up to the sounds of nature. watching the local farmers tend to the rice paddies from the pool was a really neat. There is a Moquito net, but you may see lizards crawling, flying insect and their are many ants around the villa. Just be smart and don't leave any open food out and ants shouldn't be a problem. try not to have too many lights on inside during the night time and flying insects shouldn't be a problem.
one day we took a walk through the rice fields to the monkey forest. took us about 25 minutes.
We did stay their during the Hindu new year (Nyepi) and it was hard to find a driver to take us to the center of Ubud so we were going to walk, but had to turn back to due some not-so-nice ferrel dogs that live in the village. So it was a little disappointing we didn't get to see any of the parades which was the whole reason we wanted to stay in bali during Nyepi.
Hi Kevin, we were sorry to hear of your delay on arrival and glad you made it finally.
Nyepi itself is "quiet day" and the entire island is shut down (including the airport) The celebrations with the burning of the statues of evil spirits are the night before.
Westerners are allowed to walk around but generally discouraged on the day of Nyepi (it's on the info we send for stays that period) as the Balinese really do take this as the holiest day in their calendar.
In the village street away from the villa there are barking dogs but they are not feral, just territorial for the houses they come from and we haven't heard on anyone being bitten just walking so sorry you had that experience.
We are so glad you stayed with us and please do come back.
The villa was lovely, it was not as big as we thought it was going to be, but that was no problem. The villa managers were great, and checked in with us each day to make sure they could accommodate any trips into Ubud etc. The pool was lovely, and had great views over the rice paddies. It was a very peaceful setting and i would definitely recommend staying here.
A wonderful property that provides for peace & tranquility from the hectic Ubud. The accommodations are traditional Balinese structures with open air bathrooms / showers and great space to lounge around your room or the pool. Staff were exceptionally helpful, courteous and genuinely interested in ensuring you were enjoying yourself. Travel to any restaurants or center of town is not in close walking distance, taxis will cost no more than 50,000 rph ($5) and is a must. This villa is superb and good value. Tip: As I never could locate it on a map in advance, as a reference point the villa is located South of Sacred Monkey Forest. Recommend any tour booked through Ubud tourist Info. (website hidden), well less than private transport.
Our stay was fabulous and as described in mails and pictures, it was exactly the same. The staff was extremely helpful. Just for the instance, we lost our way so we called the area manager Ms. Wayann and she immediately arranged our pick up. We were completely overwhelmed with the gesture. In a nutshell it was a memorable stay:)
Dear Ashima, thank you for your kind comments. I just want to respond to a couple of your notes about how we could improve.
Firstly villa Jiwa you stayed in doesn't come with breakfast included. That is noted in your reservation document. We do offer breakfast for those guests who want it at a small additional cost. Our other villas at a higher cost do include breakfast. Secondly, the prices in Bali change rapidly due to inflation and some of the brochures we provide for food service from restaurants and catering services may not yet have been replaced with current information. We will note to inform guests of this. Thirdly we do not provide taxi service ourselves, they are provided by the village taxi service and while we are advised of specific prices for some journeys like the airport we don't get involved with the money or have specific prices for all journeys. That is between a guest and taxi service. We don't know why you were charged more by them if they gave you a firm price.
Great Experience, Organised pickup from the airport. Made our stay easy. Staff were on site to help at any time. Maybe a little far out of the main streets of Ubud our taste but if you are after a secluded stay in paradise then i would recommend staying here.
We had a really nice stay in the 1bdr villa at Harmony Villas! The property is beautiful and well looked after by the staff and the villa itself is modern and very comfortable. Michael was a great host and saw to every request we had and ensured that our stay was a memorable one

I'm an educational filmmaker born in the UK, spent many years in Los Angeles, have an organic farm (still going) in Southern California and now travel a lot with bases in beautiful Bali.and equally beautiful Ojai, California. I've created Harmony Villas with my Balinese friend Wayan Nama in a modern tropical minimalist style to reflect our joint passions - connection with the land, no clutter, beauty and a wonderful environment. I'm equally passionate about providing a superlative experience for Harmony guests so they can have an authentic Bali vacation and truly relax.
