We enjoyed our stay at the cabina, it is very well kept and has a nice homie-nook feel. The only two things that didnt go well for us were that in the three days we stayed here the maid never came which only really caused an issue with the bathroom garbage space and the cabina is located right next to the main street in town (which can be noisy due to the dirt bikes and quads). When you stay here you have access to the Banana Bars pool which is nice. Pia helped us check in after hours and she is very friendly.
Pia's Studio is great! So close to the beach and very relaxing. The shower smelt a little bit but i think you have to expect that when travelling to tropical places. The Air Conditioning worked good, the bed was comfy and the kitchen had all utensils to make pretty much everything. We had a great stay :)
The reservation was canceled 99 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
To say that my stay was nothing short of a complete mistake and misunderstanding is an understatement.
I should start by saying that my review is based mostly on the fact that I did not do research before booking this location and the property. With that said, I urge you to please do research before booking!!!
I was not able to cancel the room because I booked it the day before and then realized that it was located 5hrs away from SJO airport and had to purchase a charter flight from SJO to Tambor. But I decide to make the best of it and not cry over spilled milk.
Upon arriving Pia was kind enough to have a taxi waiting for me for $45. 30min later on an extremely bad dirt road, I arrived to paradise.Um, Not exactly! Pia was more pleasant via emails than she is in person. She seems reserved and uninviting, which made it hard to try and hold a conversation.
The room is as described and not much else to see, and though it was low season (Sept) I would've appreciated some sort of info on where to go, other than the generic "go to your right or left, most restaurants are closed for low season, but enjoy and relax". The view is what you would expect and based on the way everyone speaks about the beaches I was expecting the next best thing this side of heaven! To my dismay, the beach was a disaster. It looked uninhabited, desolate and in desperate need of a face lift. But serene at the same time. So I sucked it up and enjoyed the waves reading a book.
There was no light in the restroom and the light in the balcony was out which made it for a very Dark first night. Especially when the lights on the compound went out completely. Pia, did have someone fix it in the morning, and was apologetic about it. Based on one review I read, she still has yet to fix the bed out on the balcony which would have been a great save, since most people would like to sit and read and enjoy a night cap, coffee or wine.
The worst part of this was the shower which smelled as bad as a New York City sewer! The water though came out clear had an odor alone made it difficult to shower. The TV was also hard to watch, as the bed is so absolutely low to the ground and the TV is no where near eye level, I'd suggest moving the tv down a bit if the cable extended, but that I assume would make too much sense.
So, that's pretty much my rant. In a nutshell, this destination is pretty much for hippies, surf junkies, and nature lovers, who want the literal sense of "Pura Vida". It's a simpler life than I expected or was use to, to say the least.
The place is just as advertised and pictured. Pia and everyone that works there were very friendly and helpful. The grounds are kept nice, I felt safe, and it is really, really close to the beach. The kitchenette pretty much has everything you need and there is a market close by. I had to work part time while I was there and I really enjoyed brewing a cup of coffee and bringing my computer out to the balcony for a relaxing workspace. You are backed up to the road (many places are in Santa Teresa) but I didn’t really notice it because the cabina faces out towards a nice garden. I had a great stay and would come back.
