About this listing

A perfect place to get away and relax in a large, sunny, beautiful, unique house in the sublime mountains of Southern Oregon. 25 minutes to Ashland, close to Mt. Ashland Ski Resort. (You may need snow chains/tires in winter, if there's snow/ice.)

The space

Get away to a beautiful retreat in the magnificent Colestin Valley, just over the California border and just south of Ashland, Oregon. Come and relax in a comfortable house with great personality, an as-yet-undiscovered gem whose many windows look out onto mountains, trees, sky, birds, squirrels, families of deer, and often in the wintertime, snow. Revel in the quiet, cook some comfort food in the fully-stocked kitchen, take an invigorating hike, or just laze around in the king-size flotation bed, listen to records you haven't heard in decades, play the upright grand piano, perch in the window seat and read, read, read. (There's no wifi here!) 25 minutes up the hill to the Ashland Ski Resort, 25 minutes down the hill to the town of Ashland and its nationally-renown Shakespeare Festival. 3-story house accommodates 1-9. You'll want to come back for every season!

Price for a single or couple is $165/night, each additional person is $20 per night, up to 6 adults. Children under 12 are free.

Mouna's pictures are inaccurate only in their humbleness. Gigantic pines breezy meadows all greengoldengreen sweeping up to the ridgeline - the entirety of that horizon - unobstructed from any of the balconies/porches/grassy fields/and most of the interior of the Barnhouse: Naturally well lit, charming and thoughtful. Yes sublime.

Beautiful, secluded setting. The barnhouse was inviting and very home-y. We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and it was pretty dangerous for them. My husband and I had to follow them around the whole time. Older kids 7+ would probably be fine. Although there are some very fun and cool vintage toys that the kids really enjoyed. Lots of fun board games too. I would go again....when my kids are older!

I would highly recommend the Barnhouse for anyone seeking a relaxing retreat in nature. The house was clean and spacious with ample natural light no matter what time of day. Thank you Mouna for offering this beautiful space for others to enjoy!

Thank you so much, Craig, for this acknowledgement. Isn't it amazing what an old barn can be turned into? I acknowledge the young couple who created the inside in the early seventies. For me it became a play house. I hope you and your lovely partner will come again. I'm getting up in years, so I hope you come again soon! Thank you again for your sweet words. Mouna

Nice place to go if you want to get away from the city but still be close enough to go into town if you forget something.

Mouna's Barnhouse is a treat! Our group of 6 stayed for a weekend retreat comfortably, delighting in the decor, the surrounding forest and wildlife, and enjoying the voice lesson that Mouna shared with us. We would recommend this location for anyone that wishes to enjoy a weekend or longer stay to rest and rejuvenate with loved ones and friends.

The Barnhouse is a wonderfully relaxing and tranquil place with special charm. It is light-filled and in a gorgeous setting. Mouna's done a great job filling the house with decor and collections that are super fun and interesting and yet the the house does not feel cluttered. It is also stocked and equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay (including a break from Wifi and TV!). Mouna reached out before our stay to see if we had any special requests and was very flexible about arrival and departure times. I hope to stay at the Barnhouse again.

Mouna is lovely, and the Barn House is unforgettable. I love cabins, this cabin has a character that reminded us of what matters. The collections of antiques and the sprawling plants, the rooms filled with sunlight and the cozy nooks the children found to curl up and read. The smaller details with robes and slippers to wear, the spices in the kitchen, the safari room curling up and cozy. Vinyl records and winding stairs, a big bathtub with drift wood and humongous succulents. Our children felt so special because our host created unexpected surprises in each closet and corner small resting nooks with beautiful old stories, binoculars and animals flying and scarring about all visible thru the big windows with views of the trees and sky... ah to die for. We relaxed and felt happy to explore the surrounding area. There is a Buddhist Temple right up the road, very beautiful and peaceful. We didn't want to leave and would love a place just like it. Mouna and her friend Julian were very gracious and came to visit and welcome us which was so sweet. We are still feeling the calming nurturing effects of this place. Visit, it's the place to bee.

I live right down the road, so I'm available if you need advice or help with the ins and outs of country living, like building a fire in the wood stove, where the best hikes are, how to bake a prune cake, etc!
