The Space

Get away to a beautiful retreat in the magnificent Colestin Valley, just over the California border and just south of Ashland, Oregon. Come and relax in a comfortable house with great personality, an as-yet-undiscovered gem whose many windows look out onto mountains, trees, sky, birds, squirrels, families of deer, and often in the wintertime, snow. Revel in the quiet, cook some comfort food in the fully-stocked kitchen, take an invigorating hike, or just laze around in the king-size flotation bed, listen to records you haven't heard in decades, play the upright grand piano, perch in the window seat and read, read, read. 25 minutes up the hill to the Ashland Ski Resort, 25 minutes down the hill to the town of Ashland and its nationally-renown Shakespeare Festival. 3-story house accommodates 1-9. You'll want to come back for every season!

Price for a single or couple is $135/night, each additional person is $20 per night, up to 6 adults. Children under 12 are free.

Guest Access

Interaction with Guests

The Neighborhood

I love the peaceful, quiet Nature setting and the

Check In
  • We had a very nice time in the "Barn House." It had plenty of space for us, our two kids, and another couple. We particularly enjoyed the record player and music collection that were provided. It was the first time my son had used a record player and he had to ask me how to do it. A novel change regarding music technology! We found we had time to spare to get to the theater in Ashland if we left an hour before show time. We found everything we needed there except a hair dryer. Bring your own! Things are well worn and in fact the bathroom door handle came off the first time I opened it, but we found a screw driver too so it was no problem. Mouna was very sweet to loan us some gasoline when we didn't plan ahead. The place has lots of light and bird song, which made its imperfections seem charming.

  • The Sublime Mountain Retreat is sublime indeed. This is a personal, whimsical world full of indoor-outdoor grace. Mouna's meadow is a slice of nirvana, and a cure for all things commercial. I brought a group of kids who were in love with every detail of this joyful, handcrafted homestead. I will be back by myself, with adult friends, and with family. Magic happens here.

  • We wanted a place with some character for six adults and two little kids and Mouna's barn house was full of character and just the perfect amount of space. It's very rustic, is away from everything else, and the house is full of several generations of memories collected (it seems). The kids, two little girls, had an endless variety of things to be fascinated with—from hundreds of stuffed dolls and animals to little tea sets. Mouna, if you find a little tea set filled with pieces of torn paper napkins, that's because my 5y old niece forgot to cleanup after her tea party on saturday morning. We loved it here.

  • WoW! What a treat the Barnhouse was! Unique to itself in sooamy ways, it had us smiling from the moment we arrived to the moment we left-- amazing set uo with lil magcal nooks everywhere, wood burning fireplace, clawfoot tub, balcony and deck with sacred mountains and pines all around. Bright stars above shining down on us while we made homemade soup in mounas fully sticked kitchen while listening to a whole variety of records on the record player. The main bed is waaaaay comfy and the enire personality is " love" . Thank you, Mouna, we cant wait to come back! Blessings!

  • We loved the Barnhouse! Beautiful setting, fully outfitted kitchen and charming decor. The perfect setting for a girls weekend. We will definitely be back.

  • What a wonderland. Little did I know or expect what lay ahead. Mouna's home was so charming and delightful, you can't help reflect on the days gone by. There were so many sentimental items in the home, I walked around in complete amazement. The entire time, there was some new discovery that gave us all a chuckle. The grounds are so phenomenal, I personally had such a cathartic experience. I actually came home after three days feeling rejuvenated. Mouna was so sweet and endearing, I even received a voice lesson from this very special lady. Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised, blessed and rejuvenated at this Ashland Oasis. But, just to let you know, we plan on going back every Thanksgiving, for we have found our new tradition and a friend for life indeed. Thank you beautiful Mouna for your hospitality. Diana

  • This cabin was a treasure. We could have spent weeks exploring every nook and cranny while listening to the excellent record collection. Kids would have a ball at this cabin. We saw deer and wild turkey. The landscape was so picturesque. Mouna (email hidden). We hope that maybe someday we'll be back on the west coast and have the opportunity to return. Bring some food, wine and fuzzy pj's and settle in for a nice long weekend. Highly recommended.

  • Mouna was very punctual and attentive, friendly and yet provided plenty of space for my wife and I to celebrate our overnight 6th Anniversary.

The Barnhouse is large but quaint and has a very nice energy and charm.

We would recommend Mouna and her home to anyone. Thanks!

  • Our stay at the Mountain Retreat was mixed with both lots of positives and some areas of concern. On the positive side: the place really is in a very quiet and beautiful location, with wild deer who come up on the property and gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. On day two Mouna dropped by with some coffee beans and fresh eggs which was a lovely touch! There was plenty of space for the bunch of us to spread out. The decor in the house is eclectic and there's certainly lots of circa 1970s reading material to keep anyone busy reading for hours. With no TV or wifi we were really able to disconnect, unwind and truly play! The kitchen was extremely well appointed and we were not missing anything to prepare our meals.

Areas of concern, some of which may have been mentioned by previous travellers:
    - the host never contacted us with directions and final check in arrangements and the house was left pitch black with not a single light on for the evening of our arrival. No one was at the house to orient us either. As noted, Mouna did swing by very briefly the next day with the coffee and eggs and to make sure we had arrived.
    - the mattresses and couches are all quite old and not the most comfortable.
    - there are thread-bare carpets all over the place that present a tripping hazard.
    - there are no curtains in any of the bedrooms so be prepared to wake up with the sun
    - the shower curtain is balanced between two suspended rings and regularly fell on our heads.

All told we would still recommend a stay here - just make sure you put everything back as you found it when you leave...and bring a sleeping mask if the early morning light is a problem for you!
