What is the apartment like?
The apartment is a one bedroom flat in Hataitai with views of Evans Bay, Cook Strait and the Rimutaka mountains.
It is a characterful lower flat of a large 1918 Edwardian-style house. It has open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. There is a queen bed in the bedroom. It has a separate bathroom with a shower. The kitchen has an electric stove, microwave, fridge freezer and a full set of cooking equipment. Bed linen and towels are supplied.
The kitchen is set up for you to be able to do your own cooking, so breakfast isn't included in the price but we can provide breakfast for one or two night stays if it will make life easier for you - so do talk to us about your requirements and costs.
The lounge has a 40" TV with Sky TV (including Sky Sport), DVD player and ipad/ipod/MP3 player charger/stereo dock. WIFI is also provided.
The view from the flat is across Evans Bay to the Miramar peninsula and the Rimutaka mountains as well as out to Cook Strait. (Miramar is Wellywood central and home to Weta Workshop and the Weta Cave). We have occasionally seen dolphins in Evans Bay and even a pod of orca once.
If you are independent, you can have complete privacy as the flat is self-contained with its own entrance. However if you want any help we are on site and happy to be of assistance.
The flat is ideal for two people.
A third person can be accommodated on the king single sofa bed in the lounge. The price quoted is for two people. There is an additional charge of $37.50 per night for a third person. The maximum number of guests is three people. We are happy to accommodate parties of up to 3 people. The flat is suitable for families with children six years old and over, but is not set up for families with younger children or infants, so we cannot accept booking for families with children under six.
You will see from the photos that the flat has four bookcases stocked with books. They range from novels and poetry to art, history, science and travel (and there are even some cartoon books!). You are most welcome to browse and read during your stay.
Is it a handy location for shops and travel in to town or airport?
The flat is:
* 2 mins walk from Hataitai Village with bus stops, shops and cafes (including a laundrette, an excellent Thai restaurant and a specialist chocolate shop).
* 5 mins by bus into central Wellington/Courtney Place (no. 2 or no. 5), or a 25-35 min scenic walk along Grafton Road, down Grass Street and along the Oriental Bay waterfront. (You can also go this way on the no. 14 bus. It takes about 15-20 mins.)
* 5-7 min walk away from Hataitai Beach and cafes and eateries at Greta Point.
We are also handy to the airport - a 7-10min taxi ride away (and if our work schedules permit, we'll give you a lift to/from the airport).
If you are here for a big event like the Rugby 7s, World of Wearable Art or a film premiere, we should be able to drop you in town for your event to avoid parking costs and hassles.
We are happy to consider longer-term stays as well as short stays, so do get in touch with us about your requirements.

I run a consultancy helping organizations with long term thinking and my spouse plays the violin in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (let us know if you want us to book NZSO tickets for you). We like cooking, reading, cycling, bush walking and watching movies. See our profile for more info.
We are a smoke free household so we particularly welcome non smokers.
Please, no smoking anywhere on the premises, inside or out - cheers.
We were made to feel very welcomed by Janet and Stephanie. They even insisted on taking us into the city centre via Victoria Heights so we could see the view!
The apartment was well appointed and comfortable and everything made it a real home from home stay.
The access to the city was convenient and it was entirely possible not to use the car due to an excellent bus service.
We enjoyed our stay very much.Thank you Janet and Stephanie.
We visited our son who lives in Wellington. Janet & Stephanie's apartment was ideal for us. They made us very welcome and included nice touches like a vase of fresh flowers and a bowl of fruit. The view over the bay is fantastic. The kitchen is well-equipped, but we didn't need to use it other than for breakfast.
Excellent hosts, excellent accommodations, awesome location. Will be back!
Stephanie and Janet's apartment was extremely comfortable and spacious. Great views over Wellington harbour and an easy bus journey to the centre of town. Stephanie was a very welcoming host who gave us lots of useful information.
One of my favorite Airbnb experiences! Janet and Stephanie made me feel right at home with a warm welcome and small touches like nice toiletries in the bed room and a speedy dedicated wifi network. The flat itself is so cute and comfortable with beautiful views of the bay—I would love to rent it out long term and live in Wellington! It's very close to the CDB and is in my opinion an ideal location just a skip away from all the action. Highly recommended!
Janet met us and showed us round the apartment. Really well equipped kitchen and huge fridge freezer. We loved the lounge and dining table in the bay window with a great view over towards the airport. Comfy bed and good ensuite. No problem with parking, and a quick downhill walk to bus stops into the city. Janet explained the bus routes to us and was really helpful directing us back to the port for our ferry.
Spent hours in the museum and took the cable car up to the gardens/observatory view. Nice city and a great place to stay. Would recommend Janet and Stephanie's flat.
The reservation was canceled 28 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Stephanie is a friendly, busy mother of two who works from home. She runs a consultancy helping organizations with long term thinking. Janet is a professional musician who plays the violin in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (let us know if you want us to book NZSO tickets for you). We have two lovely boys aged 15 and 12. We like cooking, reading, cycling, bush walking, watching movies and board games as well as most forms of art and sport - and the boys like video games too.
We speak a smattering of French, German, Italian, Spanish, Flemish, Dutch and Te Reo Maori between us. Our 15 year old is also learning Spanish at school and keen to chat! We love to meet people from all over the world. We did lots of traveling in our youth and are pleased that we can now host other people as they travel the world. We're a friendly and safe household to stay with, especially for women travelers.
There are no pets in the flat. There is a 'legacy' cat door, but the flat has been completely stripped and redecorated since the previous occupants a decade ago, so there are no issues re pet allergies. However, if you are animal lovers and missing your pets at home we have a very friendly golden retriever in our back garden whom you are welcome to meet. (She doesn't have access to the front garden where the flat and little flat patio is, so there's also no need to worry if you are not keen on dogs.)
