Frenchmen House is my home. I share it with Molly (king of the feline world) and my airbnb guests.
Victorian-style 100+ year old house on Frenchmen Street -- home of the best collection of jazz clubs in New Orleans -- and still only blocks from the French Quarter.
The house retains the architectural details that make New Orleans homes interesting and beautiful -- 13 ft. ceilings, dormer windows, original wood floors, and double parlor with functioning pocket doors. Very few renovations have altered this original home, and its charm represents the homes of its era.
Great backyard for entertaining -- very private courtyard setting. Smoking is allowed in the backyard.
PARKING: Easy on street parking, no meters, no time restrictions and always spaces available on my block.
I now have three rooms listed, all with king-size beds -- one for the Red Room, one for the Rose Room, and now one for the Green Room -- all three show up on my profile page.
The house is a side-hall shotgun, so unlike a traditional shotgun, one does not have to walk thru each room to get to the next. The Red Room is separated from the Rose Room by large pocket doors that may be opened when both rooms are rented together. Both rooms rented together create a very comfortable 2-room suite (traditional New Orleans double parlor).
The Rose Room is separated from the Green Room by a standard solid door, which also may be opened if both rooms are rented together. All adjoining-room-doors latch on both sides of each door for privacy. All entry doors to the rooms also latch from the inside for privacy.
To rent two or more rooms together, you simply book each room separately. Be sure to check the calendar for each room for its availability before booking the first room.
Each room is designed to accommodate two guests. If you book all three rooms, you may have additional guests at $10 per night per guest that exceeds six total guests.
Please know that it is never an issue leaving late and using the house on your departure day (leaving bags, hanging out, etc.) -- All I need is to start preparing the room for the next guest. You will never need to be out of the room before 11am. You can also arrive at the house early, even if your room isn't yet ready to check in.
The regular nightly rate does not apply during certain events, such as Mardi Gras and JazzFest. See calendar for more details.
Guests have full use of the kitchen and all other common areas - living room, backyard, and bath. There is only one bathroom, and it is shared with me and all guests.
I always try to meet you when you first arrive at the house. After that, you will have a code to the front door and can come and go as you please. If I can't meet you for some reason, I can forward your code to you before you arrive, and you can let yourself in and make yourself at home.
During your stay, I try to be available if you need me and invisible if you don't need me.
Jo and her Frenchmen house is the perfect place to stay i New Orleans. The house and our red room was beautiful and Jo is a welcoming and very helpful host. The short walk down Frenchmen street takes you to some great resturants and clubs. The next time I'm in New Orleans I wouldn't wanna stay any where else than the Frenchmen house.
Our host Joanne was pleasant. The red room was nice with a big comfy bed and an efficient air conditioning unit which was great since it is July.
Great house. Great host. We will definitely stay here again!
We absolutely loved staying with Jo. The house and room were beautiful and the location was within easy walking distance of the French Quarter. She has two wonderful pets, a cat and a dog, who would come in and sit with us occasionally, which was terrific. Highly recommended. Also, our favorite restaurant on the trip was the Marigny Brasserie, which was just down the street. And, there's a Walgreen's right around the corner for all those little forgotten things. Highly recommended.
Great room, lovely home. Awesome location no more than ten minute stroll from French Quarter. Easy parking right outside... Oh and the comfiest bed I've ever slept in. Thanks Jo!
Excellent location near all the sights and sounds you would want to experience. Great room with large bed. Definitely staying there next time we are visiting NOLA.
We had a great time in New Orleans and our host was wonderful. We appreciated meeting her at her door, as she gave us a personal tour of her home. The bed was large and comfortable. Her home is clean, and full of resources on the area.
We liked also how close it was to the French Quarters. We could see a lot of interesting things just blocks from her home. We also felt safe at night walking around the area. Also the pets of her home are friendly ad wicked cute.
I would certainly stay here again!
The house is lovely and the rooms are spectacular. The location is perfect if you're looking to spend time in the French Quarter, it's an easy stroll right out your door down to the heart of Frenchmen St. Joanne is a gracious host and makes it easy to come and go as you please.
My stay in New Orleans could not have started better. Joanne is such a nice and accommodating host with the artie edge to point you in the right direction. The place was a real treat with a taster for real NOLA life, but through and through bohemian and vibrant. My room (red room) exuded loads of character and left me with a great impression of life in NOLA....which still seems like a fantastic dream...as is the nature of the place.
Definite returning for more :-D
Sincere thanks to Joanne for hosting.
Wonderful place to stay! The bed was very comfortable and the room was quite large. The bathroom was nice and everything was clean and well kept. There was ample parking and we were able to bring our small dog with no problems. Only a 5-10 minute walk to the main part of Frenchman street. Thanks!
