I'd like to invite you to spend some time at my beautiful beach-side retreat, Casa Playa Marina.
Since you're already looking for a place to stay, I'll assume you've decided to visit Las Terrenas. And why not? It's spectacular!
I've traveled all over the Dominican Republic, and so far nothing comes close to the Samana Peninsula.
From my spacious 2-bedroom residence you'll be able to:
- Walk out the front door and onto one of the unforgettable beaches Las Terrenas has to offer (Punta Popy is my front yard, and Playa Las Ballenas, Playa Bonita, and Playa Coson are all just around the corner)
- Stroll 4 minutes into the center of town to visit the fresh fish market, pick up locally grown produce, peruse an art gallery, or join a local excursion
- Enjoy the Las Terrenas nightlife including restaurants, bars, and old-fashioned corner stores without the need for a rental car
- Sleep in the privacy of a tranquil residence with long-term tenants, full-time handy man, and beautiful garden instead of a noisy, impersonal hotel
Casa Playa Marina has everything you could desire to comfortably accommodate anyone from single travelers to groups of 5.
The residence includes:
- 2 bedrooms with queen-sized beds (there is an airbed available for groups of 5)
- 2 full bathrooms (one in the master suite and one full guest bathroom)
- Hot water
- Front porch with a large outdoor seating area and a spectacular ocean view
- Back porch with a writing desk and a hand-made hammock imported from Mexico overlooking private backyard garden
- Private parking
- Fully-stocked kitchen with many useful additions including french press, coffee grinder, wok, high-end knives, blender, automatic wine opener, electric kettle, and an impressive array of spices
- Ceiling fans in each room (I don't have air conditioning and I don't miss it- the ocean breeze maintains a perfect temperature, even during the summer months)
- Washer and dryer
- Beautifully furnished and decorated with a French Caribbean touch
- Fresh linens and towels provided
- Clean drinking water included
Although you'll be just a 4-minute walk to the center of town, the residence is like a private enclave on the beach. You can literally walk next door to one of the finest Italian restaurants in town, or have your own dinner party on the front porch with fresh lobster at $4 a pound.
My neighbors are quiet, respectful, and friendly people. Your only disruption will be a warm hello if you run into them in the garden.
Casa Playa Marina is completely unique- it's the only long-term residence along Las Terrenas's premium beach-front drive amongst the high-end hotels and restaurants that surround it.
For far less than the price of a hotel in the same neighborhood, you get full use of this beautiful home and everything it has to offer.
I look forward to welcoming you soon!
Great place, perfect location across from the beach and short walk to town. Brian was a perfect host, there to meet us and answer any questions and offer suggestions. Loved the stay and would love to go back.
Brian's home was exactly as he describes it. It was comfy, spacious, clean and included all the amenities we needed and we felt super safe during our entire stay. Brian was also super! He picked us up at the airport and was available via email prior to our trip to answer questions and when we called to ask how to work the washer.
The location was perfect to walk around town and/or rent an affordable scooter to visit other beaches and sites. We highly recommend the horseback riding with Carlito. Super personable guy who treated us like friends instead of tourists. The waterfalls at the end of the ride are well worth it.
One word of caution regarding the town... we happened to be visiting during the national Labor Day and long weekend for everyone so Las Terrenas was busier than normal as locals travel north for the long weekend. However, if you stay in the center of town be prepared to hear loud music blaring from passing cars, roaring motorcycles. and the smell of exhaust throughout the day/night as Brian's home is situated right along the main road. However, the back guest room is pretty quiet.
Overall, we had a fantastic time and recommend Brian's home.
My sisters and I are so glad we chose to stay at this listing! Brian's home was exactly as billed -- impeccably maintained, beautifully furnished, filled with valuable little amenities (including things we didn't even realize we'd need, like a much-appreciated blender and coffee press), and perfectly located. It's literally across the street from the beach, just about a five minute walk from the center of town. And Brian himself was beyond gracious. He welcomed us with a Presidente upon arrival, helped us with logistics even weeks before we arrived, offering to set up excursions and introduce us to locals, and, during our stay, responded to our questions literally within hours. He shared great local knowledge with us, including a rundown of the different beaches, the best means of local travel to various spots, and the best place to watch the sunset over mojitos. We recommend this beautiful apartment and this exceptional host with unqualified enthusiasm!
Me, my sister, and our friend stayed at Brian's place in Las Terrenas for three nights. It was absolutely perfect. There are two large rooms with queen sized beds- definitely would be comfortable for two couples or a family- two bathrooms with showers, a large kitchen and living room, a front porch with a table perfect for having your morning coffee while looking out at the ocean and the beautiful garden, and a back porch with a hammock for relaxing. The town beach is right across the street, and you can walk a little while in either direction for more secluded parts of the beach. It is also just 5 minutes from the town, which has a good balance of tourist amenities while not being strictly tourist-only. Great eating, shopping from local artists, and night life were all steps away. Brian met us when we arrived and was super helpful with recommendations for what to do, where to eat, etc- he even sent us more recommendations for our trip to Santo Domingo. And we got to know Anel the gardener/handyman on the property who was also super nice and helpful.
Since we got home we can't stop talking about how we want to go back for another visit- and of course, we'll be messaging Brian when we do!
Brian as a host was phenomenal--great communication, super helpful, and also very flexible with last minute changes with our reservation.
Brian's beach house is ideal for:
-families or small group of friends traveling to Las Terrenas
-for folks who may need R&R and get work done at the same time. The place is peaceful, lots of shutters for light, wifi!
-location is right smack at the center of town! If you don't have your own transportation, then you should stay at this beach house--beach, restaurants and shops are a hop and skip away!
-while there are many good restaurants, having access to a kitchen (Brian has the place stored pretty good and you just replenish whatever you use) helps when you want to just stay in.
A beautiful and comfortable home conveniently located right across the street from the beach! Brian was a fantastic host who was helpful before and during my trip, offering recommendations on how to get there and what to do. With lots of windows and typical wooden shutters, there is a refreshing breeze and lots of light in the house. There are screens on the windows so no insects in the home. The bedroom is a nice size and the bed is super comfortable. Right off of the guest bedroom there are doors that open to the garden and a hammock.
There is so much to do in Las Terrenas - a horseback ride in the mountains to a waterfall, hiking through a nearby property owned by some of Brian's friends, long walks on the beach or dancing at night. Brian helped arrange the activities that I was interested in. Of course, if you want to just sit on the beach with a cool drink, there are many to choose from, walking distance or by motorcycle taxi. I didn't kite surf, but there are classes available. There are many restaurants to choose from, but you can also cook in Brian's fully stocked kitchen. Lots of European cuisine options are available, and also typical local Samana cooking using coconut.
Brian prepared a meal for me while I was there (delicious!). He also made sure that I made my bus back to Santo Domingo to fly home. The bus has a convenient pickup right in front of the house. We waited for pickup watching a beautiful sunrise on the beach with a to-go cup of freshly brewed coffee that Brian prepared. I highly recommend staying with Brian, and visiting the most beautiful part of the Dominican Republic that I have seen.
