LA COLLINE DE TILLEUL GITE is a traditional, stone-built, Charentaise cottage idyllically & rurally situated half way between the busy market town of Chalais and the beautiful village of Aubeterre. Set in 1.5 acres of gently sloping, grassed meadow, with fruit, nut & lime trees for shade, the house faces east across the grounds towards the lime trees and the distant hills.
It is self-contained, with one super-king bedroom & its own private terrace, is ideal for couples, but able to sleep 4.

The space
LES TILLEULS is our largest, traditional stone-built Charentaise cottage. It consists of two floors with a bedroom with the most comfortable super king-size bed, generous shower room, separate toilet upstairs and spacious living/dining space downstairs. It has fully equipped kitchen with an electric oven, full size gas hob, fridge-freezer, washing machine, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, iron etc. There is a TV and fibre Internet connection. It would be comfortable for 2, but can sleep up to 4 (we can provide a single or sofa bed downstairs).

The cottage has it’s own driveway, although there are parking spaces in the barn. You will have your own beautifully landscaped terrace for alfresco dining. There is also an attached private garden with a lounge set and 4 seater swing under the walnut tree to enjoy the sunsets and stunning views over the sunflower fields. Les Tilleuls cottage has had the most returns so far with some of the guests returning 3 times in the same season.

In your cottage you will find all we feel you need, from the highest quality bedding and towels, toiletries (body wash, soap, shampoo and conditioner), a hairdryer, to tea, coffee capsules, herbs and spices, and even freshly cut flowers from the garden, so you can enjoy your escape to the country to the fullest. For longer stays you can expect a welcome basket with local or homemade products as well. Upon request, we offer breakfast and meals which we serve at your cottage. Nestled in peaceful hills of southern Charente with Aubeterre, chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in France, just a stone's throw away, La Colline d!e Tilleul gites are perfect cosy hide away to unwind, slow down and recharge. For a family vocation, romantic getaway, some me-time all by yourself or to work on a creative project. Relax in 1.5 acres of gently sloping gardens and meadow, with fruit, nut and lime trees for shade. Enjoy the views from the hilltop down the valley, looking over sunflowers and meadows towards a small lake, distant woods and fields. Admire the incredibly starry skies we get here, the Milky Way is clearly visible and shooting stars put on nightly shows. This is Cognac, vineyard and Pineau country with specialities of foie gras, melon and chestnut dishes. We are around in case you would need us.

We have 3 holiday homes available for you; all are of traditional Charentaise stone and red tile construction, renovated and fully equipped. The cottages are well separated from each other and there is plenty of space for privacy. You will have your own BBQ and terrace to enjoy al-fresco dining. The large heated swimming pool (open June-September) is 12 x 6 metres, sloping from 1m to 2m deep, floodlit and terraced. Other facilities include table tennis, full-size pool table, bikes, croquet, Badminton, a Petanque piste, swings, other outdoor games.

Les Tilluels is a traditional, stone-built Charentaise self-contained cottage, with one large double bedroom, and is ideal for couples, but able to sleep 4. Set in 1.5 acres of sloping gardens, with fruit, nut and lime trees for shade, the house faces east across the grounds towards the lime trees and distant hills. Ground floor consists of fully-equipped and fitted kitchen area; dining area; sofa (turns into double bed if required); TV, selection of books and games. Upstairs – large bedroom with double bed; shower room; WC. The kitchen includes a full-size gas stove, electric oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine (so you can pack your bags lightly), microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. Please have in mind the cottage is not suitable for those with limited mobility as the stairs to the bedroom and shower/wc are steep and winding. Cot, high chair, stair gates play pen, baby bath, baby swing and inflatable paddling pool may be provided if requested in advance without additional charge. Outside on the left there is a private terrace with dining set for al fresco dining.

You can take a bike to explore the surrounding area, pop in for a coffee or lunch in the square of beautiful Aubeterre, visit its breathtaking, and Europe's largest underground monolithic church, or have fun swimming and canoeing on river Dronne. The nearest supermarket is 10 minutes drive away, in Chalais, with its chateau, shops, bars, restaurants, weekly farmers market and the most delicious almond croissant from the Boulangerie La Petrisane (opposite Lidl).

Other activities nearby: golf, tennis, river and lake swimming, cycling, fishing, kayaking, shopping at local farmers markets (including night markets in summers), wine and cognac testing etc.
