We had a wonderful time in St. Maarten. The bungalow was exactly as the pictures showed it - clean, stylish, and perfect for two people. There is a second bedroom area that would comfortably sleep two more though. We loved the sitting areas inside (during the day when it was hot) and outside for breakfast and evening.
The location was convenient enough with a car. It's about a 10 min. drive from Grand Case and perhaps a little less to Orient Beach. The day we went sailing in Simpson Bay we ended up doing a lot of driving since we were on the other side of the island. But in general, we liked being away from it all. There was a little beach walking distance from the bungalow, but when we were there it was covered in seaweed. Sandy, our host, told us this only happens sometimes. But we were very close to the ferry to Pinel Island, which was one of the BEST beaches I have ever been to. Beautiful sand, warm water, friendly restaurant staff, etc.
Sandy, Helene's daughter, was a great host! She met us when we arrived and gave us great feedback about the island both over the phone and by text message. We even met her for dinner one night at Calmos Cafe in Grand Case. We loved her screened beach blanket (in the unit) and bought two of them from her before we left.
In short, the bungalow was a great home base for our vacation!
The cottage was everything as described. My wonderful stay started with the host's daughter helping me with a car rental and making sure that all of our needs were met. The hosts responded quickly to all questions and went above and beyond to try and assist with my holiday such as suggesting incredible places to visits, locations to buy lobster and even invited me to a perfect place to watch the sunset(which by the way I would have never found on my own). If your looking for a highly relaxing different experience from the busy commercial resorts, this is it. Helene and her daughter Sandrine were great.
Helen’s apartment was a great time. We stayed for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was the perfect place to enjoy the wonderful island of St. Martin. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, the garden is very relaxing, being able to sit and enjoy breakfast listening to the birds in front of the rising sun was a real treat. The neighborhood is quiet and the beds were comfortable. Good sleep ensued.
Helens place is perfectly located for many of St. Martin’s best sights, at least the ones we favored:
5 minutes from Anse Marcel beach. Wonderful.
5 minutes from the boat that takes you over to Pinel Island. You can also kayak.
5 minutes to Orient beach.
10 minutes to Grand Case, its restaurant scene and Octopus diving, if you’re into diving, highly recommend.
There are an assortment of supermarkets close by, so you can easily set yourself up to enjoy the aforementioned perfect breakfast.
We were also lucky enough to meet Helen’s daughter Sandrine. Sandrine was a wonderful host, she gave us great introduction to the island, good tips about local restaurants, she also met us at a cool bar in Grand Case for a cocktail. It was a pleasure to meet her. So a big thankyou to her for making the vacation one to remember.
If you’re looking for cool space in which to base yourself to explore and enjoy St.Martin you can’t go wrong.
We had a wonderful stay in Hélène's amazing beach bungalow. The outdoor kitchen and dinning room were the highlights for us because of the tranquil backyard and view of Pinel Island. The kayaks and easy beach access were a bonus and made getting to Pinel Island very easy and enjoyable. We would definitely stay in her fabulous bungalow again!
Helene's place was great. I truly enjoyed my stay and it was a great deal considering how expensive the island can be.
