LA CASA COLIBRI

Description:

La Casa Colibri ‘The Hummingbird House’ was designed to take in the lake views from every room in the house, cascading down the mountainside with huge amounts of glass framing in the panoramic views of Lake Atitlan and surrounding, perfectly cone-shaped volcanoes.

At approximately 5200 feet above sea level, the Lake Atitlan area enjoys year-round spring-like weather (70s to low 80s during the day and 60s at night). Although temperatures remain relatively constant throughout the year the weather is marked by two distinctive seasons: the rainy season (May to October) and the dry season (November to April). During the rainy season the mountains and volcanoes surrounding the lake are verdant green. The mornings are generally crystal clear, while the afternoons bring spectacular showers that are a sight to behold as they roll in over the lake. During the dry season it is rare to receive any precipitation at all.

La Casa Colibri has five luxurious guest rooms each with en-suite bath. Four rooms have spacious balconies overlooking the lake. Two rooms have deep soak tubs with separate showers.

Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house, minus the laundry room. If guests would like to have any laundry done, the housekeeper will be happy to accommodate those requests.

Other things to note
As part of new regulations inacted by the Guatemalan tax authority in January, 2023 (Acuerdo Gubernativo 245-2022), all businesses are required to submit an official government invoice for all sales in excess of Q.2500; failure to do so could result in a fine for the hosts (i.e. property owners).

For citizens of Guatemala a tax ID # or DPI number is required along with your name. For all non-Guatemalans a passport number along with your name is required in order to issue this official government invoice/receipt.

We are aware that you were required to provide this or similar information to register on Airbnb, however the hosts are not provided with these details.

After your reservation has begun, or shortly after your checkout, me or a member of my team will contact you for this information so that we can create a receipt (aka, "factura"). Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide any additional detail on this subject. Thank you so much in advance for you understanding and cooperation.

the entry drive from the main road to the house is very steep. while most vehicles can make it up the entry drive, some vehicles cannot do to their length or engine size. in the event that your vehicle cannot make it up the entry drive, off-site parking options will be provided as well as free transportation at any time between the house and your vehicle.

if you will be arriving by private shuttle, free transportation is provided at any time between the house and the main road below (for those who do not wish to hook it up the steep entry drive)

Where you’ll be

Santa Catarina Palopó, Sololá, Guatemala

La Casa Colibri is located on the outskirts of the Maya village of Santa Catarina Palopo..five to ten minutes on foot. The village is small and quaint with a Spanish Colonial era Catholic church and many small shops selling local artisan's textiles and handicrafts. There are several small eateries as well as two nicer restuarants -- one at the Hotel Villa Santa Catarina, located near the village dock, and the other at Hotel Casa Palopo, located directly next door to La Casa Colibri. Should guests wish to dine at Hotel Casa Palopo, just ask me or my staff to make a reservation and we will be happy to do so. There is a gate between the two properties that can be unlocked with advance notice, providing easy access from La Casa Colibri to the restaurant next door.
