We've stayed here before . It's always clean and kept nice. Robert is right there when you need anything. Always a pleasure! Will stay again .
We like going here . Clean and cosy . Robert is a great host . Looking forward to going back .
We had a wonderful weekend at Robert's cabin in the Catskills. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and very homey - with a great kitchen to cook our catches from Lake Huntington nearby, where we had a great time fishing for days in Robert's rowboat. Robert was a wonderfully gracious host, and was always available to help with anything. It was exactly what we needed - quiet time by a lake, time by the woodstove at night (there's a huge outdoor firepit as well), time spent hiking the trails in the woods behind the cabin, and a perfectly relaxing time fishing on the lovely lake. Oh, try that bakery people are talking about - it's worth it! And check out Calicoon nearby - we had a great time poking around that cute town at night.
Will DEFINITELY be back. Also, a great place for groups to stay as there are two lovely cabins with two bedrooms each! Thanks for a wonderful trip, Robert!!
This was a very disappointing stay. The area is beautiful, but the hygienic conditions in the bathroom were very bad. The linoleum tiles were cracked and missing in some areas and brown water was seeping from the ground into the bathroom. Also, the toilet flush wasn't working and in the shower mold had started forming. We had to use up all the towels available just to keep from having to walk through disgusting brown water coming through the tiles. When I mentioned these issues to the host and that a partial refund of our $577 for three nights would be appropriate, he immediately came over to look at them. However, he tried to convince us that the water was coming from taking showers. We had only taken one shower at this point and were very careful not to get water on the ground. I guess The fact that the cleaning person mops the floor with water didn't come to mind... Anyway, no refund! After we saw that there was construction going on at the section of the lake that we had access to (was never mentioned to us by Robert), we didn't bother going back and went to the much nicer Lake Superior close by. I use airBnB all the time and never had a bad experience. Overall I think Robert is a nice guy with a big heart, but with all the cabins and construction he has going on, just completely overwhelmed.
Robert was a gracious and accomodating host who was very easy to communicate with. The cabin was clean, cozy, and had all the necessities for a relaxing getaway. The property has plenty of space to play frisbee, we even set up a badmington net!
The dock and lake area was very scenic and my jack russells had a blast running around. A highlight of the trip was the bakery across the street that he recommended. Best pie and muffins I've ever had! Thank you Robert for a great weekend!
I should note that because of a glitch in the booking process (nobody's fault), my stay was actually in Cabin #1. The cabins are within shouting distance of one another, so apart from the amenities inside Cabin #2 this review can really apply to the property for both cabins.
Robert was great to work with! Very responsive, easy to communicate with, and delightful in person. We arrived late on a Friday night and had no trouble finding the cabin. It is right at the end of Smales Road. A driveway leads to a nice fenced area to park your car.
Cabin #1 is nearer to the road than Cabin #2, but the road was not busy or loud enough to ever bother us. The cabin appears to be newly renovated. There are four rooms: a kitchen with new appliances and a large wooden dining table and chairs, two nearly identical bedrooms with cool antique radios and comfy chairs, and a bathroom with a great shower (no tub). I did not notice any shortage of silverware/cups/etc that another review mentioned, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. The deck is expansive, with a large picnic table, a long bench on one side, and a propane grill. No propane available, as noted in the listing, but you can buy a new tank for $50 at the minimart in Fosterdale (or swap an empty tank for $25).
The grounds are jawdropping. Immense grassy area surrounded by trees, great for kids and pets to frolic in. We woke up to birds chirping and deer grazing just beyond our deck each morning. Our Jack Russell had the time of his life chasing the tennis ball and just generally roaming around. The firepit is HUGE. The lake is just down the road, maybe a 5 minute walk, 10 minutes if you opt to walk through the path in the forest. The beach area that guests have access to is as advertised with lounge chairs, a grill, and two rowboats in excellent condition. Just shove them into the water and you're off!
As for cool stuff in the immediate area: The bakery on Lake Huntington Road between the cabin and the lake, only open on Saturday during our stay, has to be seen to be believed. It's hidden away in the back room of what appears to be a private home, and the pastries are among the best I've ever had. Also worth a visit is Angelina's On the Hill, a nice spot within walking distance to grab a takeout pizza for dinner.
We had a fabulous stay and can't wait to return!
The cabin was lovely and perfect for a short getaway from the city. Lake Huntington is a charming town and serene setting. Mr. Stanzoni was a perfect host, helpful when needed and otherwise hands-off.
The only negative at all is that we were unclear where the cabin was on Smales Road upon arrival. Right at the end of the street towards the lake! We will definitely be returning.
