Worldclass Hostel at a non-traditional tourist area, (middle class neighborhood), easy access to San Juan main attractions & local spots. Safe, clean; award winner Hostel 2012 & 2013. Join interesting people like you from all over the world.

The Space

At this, (4 beds mixed dorm): A/C provided from 07pm to 09am, high speed air fans 24/7, lockers and all our amenities/features.

With plenty of knowledge/information on things to do while around: Beaches, History, Art, NiteClubing, Culture, Folklore, Environmental events/visits, Open Air celebrations, Sports (amateur + professional seasonal leagues), Concerts and more.

By far, the ideal spot for the active and independent traveler; mostly the “do it by yourself” style, by foot, public transport or by car. On premises info on Deals to SJIHostel guests for local attractions.

Located in downtown San Juan, (Santurce), 20 to 30 minutes’ walk, (or 40mnts by bus), to Condado area, main beaches, water sports. Short walk to museums, breakfast/lunch cafes, restaurants, grocery & dept. stores, hospitals, nightlife, farm market, pharmacies, main public transportation lines, SagradoCorazon metro station, movie cinema, theaters, popular Placita Santurce. 30 minutes bus ride from colorful/colonial Old San Juan.

Solid concrete building; 2, 000 sq. ft., safe against high velocity hurricane wind, out of flood area, (currently hurricane season) with big balcony/fresh sea breeze + indoor terrace.

Any brief power/water shortage due to a hurricane?; don’t worry we are ready for it in addition, first class emergency response provided by USA Federal Government so we are hurricane safe.

High speed air fans in rooms and main communal areas. Air conditioning “in most" rooms, three full bathrooms on premises with hot water showers 24/7 and first aid kit in each one of them. In addition, electric sockets by all beds side (cables around are a hazard), big size lockers, screens to prevent mosquitoes, windows in ALL rooms, no rocking beds (we maintain to prevent beds from swinging other than any normal movement). It is part of our commitment for good sleeping.

Parking available on our safe and secure street. First come, first serve. Don't park at any garage entrance; park close to sidewalk.

No passport is needed for US citizens. ID may be required. Upon check-in, you will be required to show proof of onward travel. We enjoy life. However we are not a 'party hostel'. We reserve the right of admission. Licence # 1164 (Puerto Rico Tourism Company).

Guest Access

After payment completed, (no extra cost): BroadBand WiFi in ALL rooms and most communal areas, (pancakes/coffee/tea; 24/7; we provide the ingredients; you create the feast), flat screen Smart TV with movies, games, free local calls 24/7, linen, towels (bath -beach), hand and bath soap, potable water, full equipped kitchen with family size stove & refrigerator with freezer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, book exchange, daily cleaning/housekeeping, hair dryer, iron/board, sewing stuff + paid laundry. No visitors, no pets allowed.

Check in starts at 3pm. Regular business hours from 10am to 10pm; (flexible for early checks in) ONLY AFTER 10:30 AM; “if arranged in advance”. Late check in (after 10pm) is available. Check out is 12noon. Storing luggage while you travel the island at no extra cost is possible, just ask. Relaxed quiet time from 10:30pm till 07am.

No one under 18 is admitted without a parent or legal guardian. All of which requires an advanced notice.

Interaction with Guests

On call for responding to questions or helping with situations by phone 24/7, by email, sms and in person during regular business hours.

The Neighborhood

Safe and ordinary people, small community (rather than a neighborhood) in where: husband and wife grocery store, community pharmacy, churches, hair stylist, flower shop, gas sta, 24/7 conv. store, post office. Taxi service is available 24/7.

Getting around

Taxi from the airport available 24/7. Approximated price (up to 4 people) $25 US.

Buses at the airport come by about every 40 minutes from 6:00am to until 6:00pm during regular working days/hours. Out of those; it will take longer. Buses stop running at 9:00pm.

At the upper level of the Luis Munoz Marin International airport look for the chapel. Near chapel the bus stop. Take bus route # 40 or # 50 to Isla Verde by the Isla Verde Dennys restaurant (across the Cockfights Coliseum).

Before getting off you may want find from the driver where to catch bus route # T-5 to Santurce. Once in # T-5 step out at Santurce, Bus Stop 22. Only coins, (no bills) at the buses. Price is $0.75 each. Oversize luggage not allowed.

Upon getting off at Bus Stop 22 Look to your right (west) and notice the big wall/traffic light (sign Expreso De Diego). Walk to that traffic light and turn left so you re walking south against & along the big wall side of the street. Careful; buses running against traffic in an exclusive lane.

Keep going south until the next traffic light, (Avenida Manuel Fernandez Juncos). Check for the yellow building, Ultima Parada; a 24hrs gas station/convenience store. Cross the Avenida Manuel Fernandez Juncos and keep going straight forward to your second RIGHT onto Calle America.

The hostel will be on your left almost at the end of the block. 1452 Calle America (UPPER LEVEL). Just ring the bell.

If using gps look for America cross Lafayette streets or just as simple as: From the Luis Munoz Marin International airport take San Juan exit; (PR 26 west). Once at PR 26 west, (drive some 4 kilometers)look for the sign Calle San Jorge, Calle Del Parque, Avenida De Diego, (only one sign/exit for all three).

Take that exit and keep going to the 3rd traffic light (Avenida De Diego). Turn left (south) there.

Once at Avenida De Diego keep going south to next/first traffic light (Avenida Juan Ponce De Leon) and take a right there. Try to stay on your left line. NOTE: the very left/south line at Avenida Juan Ponce De Leon an exclusive one for buses so the closer one to it is the one you want to take.

Once at Avenida Juan Ponce De Leon go to the very first traffic light and make a LEFT at the second street to your left, (check for the big wall with graffity). NOTE: this intersection can be a little tricky. There are two left turns here. The first left turn will put you onto the highway. DO NOT turn here. The second left is immediately after the first and will take you south toward the hostel.

Keep going south until the next traffic light, (AvenidaManuel Fernandez Juncos). Check for the yellow building,UltimaParada;a 24hrs gas station/convenience store. Cross the Avenida Manuel Fernandez Juncos and keep going straight forward to your second RIGHT onto Calle America.

The hostel will be on your left almost at the end of the block. 1452 calle America (UPPER LEVEL).

  • Every time I go to San Juan I like to stay at this hostel, I have nothing but positive things to say about place. Francisco always is friendly and was friendly since the first time I arrived to hostel. Also area is not a tourist area for me makes it that much better. Also I feel like family every time I arrive to hostel keep it up.

  • If you're looking for the real backpacker experience, this is a good place to be! There are a lot of young people chilling outside, playing foosball table and other stuff. There are two cozy couches inside with a TV that has Netflix access. The kitchen is small and not very clean, though. Rooms are OK. Francisco is a very nice guy and offered to help us if we get into trouble even after moving out!

  • Had a great time. Place was quiet and clean and Francisco was an awesome information resource!

    November 2013
  • The beds were super uncomfortable, the walls were thin, and the walk is about 20 minutes from the beach. They were not good about enforcing quiet hours, as people were up at all hours of the night. The hostel was full when I was there and that was near to have people from all over. Just wish there was more ways to not be in the middle of it all (especially for a tired traveler).

  • Stayed here for several days. Great location, friendly staff, room kept comfortable and everything I needed. The staff was friendly, great, and exceptionally helpful with understanding where places to go were! Fully recommend!

  • It was a great experience to stay here for my first hostel! The workers were friendly and helpful. They were very flexible with check-in and check-out times. I arrived about 3:30 a.m. and everything was setup for me. Also on the check out day, they let me stay later then the usual check-out time so I could still explore the city and not have to carry my stuff. The only thing I had an issue with was that my towel got mixed up with the hostel's towels and lost, but they replaced it.

They also have plenty of help for sites to see and travel methods. And the free pancake mix helped with my budget for low cost food.

I would definitely return here the next time I'm in San Juan.

    Thanks a lot Francisco!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hostel. I met great folks, the atmosphere was friendly and respectful, and the accommodations were what I expected in the budget range. The biggest plus was the owner Francisco himself, who was a wonderful host and all around great guy! Will surely stay there again. Highly recommended!
