Finca Montania Sagrada is one of those fantastic places that is truly "off the beaten path." It's postcard beautiful views of the Maderas volcano with the horses grazing nearby still takes my breath away. And Marielena, Hari and their other friends are great folks to sit and chat with (if you understand rapid-fire Italian you'll be in even better luck) and can usually be found congregating in the communal kitchen/dining/lounging area along with an adorable army of Chihuahuas (Gollum and Didi were my favorites); Nahuel, a Peruvian hairless that will just sweetly place his head on your lap hoping you'll give him a treat; Choka(?), a lab mix that's about to be a momma; two beautiful parrots with very strong personalities; and a lazy cat. I love a place with this many animals!! One other great plus is that you can have them arrange for a massage for you. My sister wanted to bring her masseuse (a local name Patricia) home with her. :-)
As far as the room: We ended up switching rooms and staying in the bungalow room which was very nice with two beds and a great hammock on the balcony to nap and take in the mountain views, not to mention great access to the wifi. One warning - and this may only apply to people like us because my sister and I are city girls - but the amount of critters that like to make their way inside at night definitely took some getting used to so be mindful of that. Additionally, bringing a flashlight is very important as once the sun goes down there is no light around save the moon.
One of the big draws for us to the finca was that Hari's horses is one of the premiere horseback tours on the island. Hari took us out, showed us how to handle the horses and did a good job of matching horse to rider. This is not a typical nose to tail ride, we were able to let loose and cantered/galloped a bit once we were comfortable, which was just fantastic! Hari is great with the horses and so knowledgeable that he really makes sure to teach you how to handle yourself and the horse, even if you are a novice. And you can definitely see that the horses are very well cared for. One thing to note is that his German sense of humor and lack of political correctness may catch you off-guard a bit but that's just part of his charm :-).
Overall the experience felt very authentic to life on the finca, and allowed us to truly experience being out in the middle of Ometepe communing with nature and just taking it all in!
Love our room and view from the upper porch. The farm is a little challenging to get to, but we were aware of that before we went and appreciated the remoteness.
The previous reviews say it all! We also enjoyed our stay on this beautiful farm. The animals were what drew us to this place and we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with the horses, dogs, parrots and the one cat that ventured into the common area. The breakfasts were amazing with fruit salad, eggs, crusty bread, butter, local honey, yogurt and jam. We had dinner at the finca twice and both were delicious. We enjoyed our evenings of chatting with other travellers and the owners. If you are planning to hike to San Ramon or Maderas this is the perfect location.
I had a wonderful stay in the Papacito room at the Finca Montania Sagrada. The grounds are just gorgeous, truly even more spectacular than the photos can convey. The room is very clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony with stunning views. And the hosts and employees at the finca are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food is also very good! I loved having the horses and dogs and parrots around and only regret that I didn't stay for longer.
The finca, the property, and the houses are even more beautiful than they appear to be online - photos do not do them enough justice!
I stayed 3 nights in Papacito and one night in Cabana Beate. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully arranged. The hosts were all charming, most helpful, and always available should you need something.
Breakfast was incredible - gorgeous fruits, yogurt, local honey, fresh bread, delicious pineapple jam, fresh juice, plus eggs made to order...and of course great coffee.
As an animal lover, I loved having the Chihuahuas and the two larger dogs around for company. If you are not into animals, fear not - you will be left alone and will only get their attention if you actively seek it.
The attention to beauty and to detail that the hosts have clearly given their finca is obvious from the moment you step through the gate. I'm certain you won't find another place like it on the island. Comfort and beauty while surrounded by incredible views all around.
Be warned - one night is not enough here. The finca is perfectly located a little "out of the way," which means it is quiet and surrounded by nature that is virtually untouched. To truly appreciate your surroundings, spend at LEAST 2 nights here, if not 3 or more. Take advantage of the great tours offered by Hari and Valentino and ride horses up the volcano or to San Ramon Waterfall, which simply should not be missed.
I also recommend the nearby (within walking distance) 3-hour kayak tour with Cabinas Del Mar (which MarieElene arranged for me) and a swim at the Monkey Island Hostel.
5 stars for Finca Montania Sagrada...I would definitely return if I have the chance.
We had a lovely stay, everything was taken care of. The hosts are very nice and helpful. Everything was clean and well maintained. The food was great as well. We can really recommend this place!
Simply stunning location with 5star service. Definitely worth going to. Wish we could have stayed more than one night!

At Finca Montania Sagrada we live with nature. We chose to live here because we love nature and animals.
We spend many efforts to grow flowers and to look after our pets and horses.
If you like to chill out in a beautiful garden surrounded by flowers and fruits in the company of our many dogs, cats, parrots and horses you're very welcome.
