About this listing
This room is up three flights of stairs - it's pretty quiet, and in a great location - guests would share a bathroom and kitchen with Geoffrey, my roommate when I'm in NYC. Washer Dryer, plenty of clean linens, and a comfortable bed!
Rent my quiet back from the street room in the East Village. It's private and has everything you need, from wi fi to a tidy bathroom.! Its an extremely safe 24 hour neighborhood. There's lots of work by local artists in my kitchen, and a washer dryer you can use with the guidance of your hostess - it drains into the sink, nyc tenement style! Couples are ok, its just extra~! The bed is full size and has pillows galore, and the linens are fresh. It's a third floor walk up, in a well maintained prewar building, My block has a couple of nice restaurants, Supper and Il Bogato, and my favorite pizza is Rizzo's, a block and a half away on Clinton Street. Its close to a lot of pubs and shops but my particular street isn't noisy or crowded - things go block by block here in manhattan. I've had good experiences with all my guests so far - we've both been lucky!
Guests have a washer/dryer they can use, and I'll leave a list of reasonable cleaning ladies - there's a courtyard on the ground floor where we leave our recyclables and trash, and all the basic comforts.
Interaction with guests
I'll be in California with my family - my usual roommate, Thomas, will be here - he's an experienced New Yorker, a low key photographer and personal assistant, and is a good guy to talk to if you're in the mood or need information. Otherwise he's usually in his room online or unwinding.
People are easy going here, they're not in such an incredible hurry, and I love to go to Tompkins Park, on 7th Street, and people watch in the central area. It's diverse, relaxed, and still quirky - the East Village and the Lower East Side are the best neighborhoods in NYC!
It's two blocks from the 2nd Avenue Stop on the F Train (Orange line_, a few blocks from the 6 (Green) line, Bleecker or Astor Place, and I'm fond of the 14A and 15 Limited, buses are one of the best ways to look around our city streets, especially China Town.
Other things to note
The apartment is in a 100 year old tenement building, and it slopes a bit - that's characteristic of the old East Village, as we're close to sea level and in fact as you get down towards Avenue D and C, you're on former swamp land!
No smoking - you'll have a roommate who lives in a separate room on the other side of the kitchen, washer dryer, and bathroom - there's lots of privacy and respect for personal space. Be courteous to my neighbors! There's a washer/dryer, but its a little tricky so don't use it until I show you how - be a bit quieter during the late night hours.
I'm a New York based writer and singer who does a lot of spoken word gigs, and often visits San Francisco. I have 4 pop type books published, I hang out at Double Down, Eastern Bloc, and many other spots in the East Village. NIcky's Vietnamese is right across the street, and has the best sandwiches I've had in my life! My friend Leslie will be your host if I'm in California - she's a painter and really knows the area. We're pretty laid back!
