After a little difficulty finding the place we spent two wonderful days at the farmhouse. Carol was a lovely host: down-to-earth, interested and easy to talk with.
There's a great variety of outdoor activities (hiking, biking, rafting etc.) in Cairngorms National Park which is just a short drive away.
Welcomed to the cottage with a wave from the gate and a woof from Gilbert, pot of tea waiting inside! Great stay - location off the beaten track but worth it for the view on the drive, comfortable room and thoroughly enjoyed our venison tagine cooked by Carol! Made to feel at home.
My stay here was absolutely fantastic! As mentioned in the earlier reviews, getting directions or gps grids for this location is pretty crucial but had absolutely no issues getting to the house when i received them. The view from the house is fantastic and Carol & David are a fount of knowledge when it comes to recommendations of what to do in the area - especially walks and hikes! This is definitely the best Airbnb stay i've had and i'm so glad i gave myself a couple days in this location. The location was just remote enough to relax but close enough to do a million things. The house was beautifully decorated, the available bedroom well furnished and inviting. If you can, book the dinners as well!
Carol & David make one feel right at home, gave us great directions to a nearby restaurant as we did not prearrange. Dinner... So you won't starve if you don't prearrange :-) the locale is absolutely spectacular, as photography buffs we enjoyed every turn to be taken. Keep your eyes to the fields, there are hidden treasures there. Loved, loved, loved it! Carol and David are very interesting people with exciting lives in the simplest of ways. Count yourself lucky to stay with them - and yes Carole is a spectacular chef - the farm fresh everything is Yum!
Carol was wonderfully kind and understanding of our travel problems getting there. Her breakfast was the best we had in the UK! Nothing better than eggs straight from the yard. Wish we could have spent more time in the highlands, but we would certainly consider staying here again the next time we visit.
Learn from us: the farmhouse is easier to see and find during daylight!
We've inherited the most annoying nylon cobalt blue carpet in the guest bedroom which picks up atmospheric dog hairs - like a magnet. And to make things worse our white terrier has barbed hairs which DO NOT come off anything!!! hours of being on hands and knees with vacuum cleaner sometimes pays off!!! The sign to Coldhome Farmhouse is now more obvious from the road.
About the Host, Carol&David
Carol and David welcome Air BnB guests to their cozy home with stunning views. The traditional stone built cottage is off the beaten track but the stunning scenery and peacefulness is worth every minute of the detour. Carol is a keen art collector and David is a deer stalker and in his spare time does taxidermy and stick making. They have made their home very unique and quirky.
