Guest Access

All amenities of the house are available from kitchen to washer/dryer & from big screen TV to retro intercom system!

Interaction with Guests

We really enjoy meeting new guests and make ourselves available to any inquiries or conversation, while at the same time respecting our guest's privacy.

The Neighborhood

This neighborhood was developed in the late 60's with special attention to maintaining the many old- growth Live Oaks...one of which is in the front yard. The over-sized streets (due to lack of sidewalks) have relatively low traffic and are a great place to walk or jog in addition to providing ample parking spaces.

Getting around

There are 2 bus stops 1 block away and access for light rail to downtown area is 2.5 miles away

  • John was very welcoming and informative upon our arrival to his house (that is tucked away in a very picturesque and quiet neighborhood). He showed us around his home which is polka-dotted with art and cool light fixtures, invited us to use his television and kitchen -- among other things -- as much as we pleased, and introduced us to his two black beauties of dogs who were very sweet and adorable. My friend and I spent most of our time in the city (only ever returning to use the restroom and beds which were neat and clean, as was the entire humble abode), so while we did not interact with John very much, he was always kind and understanding of our absence. I've only ever stayed in Austin twice (with friends, mind you), and this was by far my most comfortable experience. Right before we left, John baked us blueberry scones fresh out of the oven for our travel home, which would lead you to believe that he attended the finest culinary school in France. The next time I find myself visiting Austin, i'll likely be crashing in one of his spare beds again.

  • Our stay at John's was very comfortable. He even had breakfast ready for us when we woke up. Score!

  • It's impossible for me to be objective about this experience as I fell in love with the hosts and their dogs. Seasha and I really hit it off and it felt way more like a slumber party than renting a room. They are both interesting, smart and helpful. John is a bit more quiet, and really goes out of his way to try and meet guest needs. Seasha is feisty, colorful and involved in a fascinating art project at Burning Man. She is a great cook and was not a "burning woman". She did NOT burn the amazing chocolate chocolate chip cookies that I ate three of. If you like to meet people when you travel, especially if you are from abroad and want an authentic and memorable Austin experience, this is an ideal place to stay. They gave me lots of tips on places to eat and things to do and Seasha spent about an hour making a map and printing it out, showing the location of everything I was interested in. Wow! However John and Seasha left me totally alone when I closed the door to my room, so I am sure guests who prefer autonomy and privacy will get what they need. The house is clean, very comfortable and well appointed, and decorated in an interesting and artsy style. John and Seasha did a lot of the work themselves. I don't know why anyone would stay in a hotel when they could have all the amenities, plus, Plus PLUS. (Great hosts, super dogs, full kitchen, patio with an outdoor open air canopy bed, books, use of living room and dining room, washer and drier, free parking, cable, internet...During your stay, they will either cook you a homemade breakfast, or order you breakfast tacos. Don't be intimidated by the location on the North edge of Austin. Seasha and John will let you know the best routes even during rush hour, and you'll find almost everything you want to see is only 10-20 minutes away. I would not hesitate to stay here again and I will stay in touch, in hopes of future slumber parties.

About
What you 'see' is but a wee filament in the tapestry of Me. Though a true Austinite (born here while my folks completed their graduate studies) I grew up abroad - in Saudi Arabia. The overseas experience and extensive travels through Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East during those formative years have developed within me an interest for exploring and meeting new people. I returned to Austin in the early 80's to complete my 'formal' education at the University of Texas and I now work in Environmental Affairs in addition to restoring vintage camper trailers - when i finished the house remodel, I had to do something! Other pass times include camping, cycling, gardening & volunteering for random community activities. I am a tirelessly persistent & lustfully compassionate Master of Rowdy Bliss!! I'm one who is fiercely tender, ironically sincere, scrupulously curious, lyrically logical and aggressively sensitive. I am on the prowl...searching within, seeking without.... May your moccasins always find happy trails
