Turks & Caicos Room ~ this is the larger of our guest rooms and can easily accommodate 4 guests with 2 queen sized beds (this pic is old)
As pictures indicate, the ranch style setting of the house is very open and inviting. This room, located at the far back of the house, measures approx 11'x 19' & has a cedar-lined walk-in closet (there's also a smaller standard closet which has a small mini fridge ). Additionally, there are windows on 3 sides and a ceiling fan / light.
All amenities of the house are available from kitchen to washer/dryer & from big screen TV to retro intercom system!
We really enjoy meeting new guests and make ourselves available to any inquiries or conversation, while at the same time respecting our guest's privacy.
This neighborhood was developed in the late 60's with special attention to maintaining the many old- growth Live Oaks...one of which is in the front yard. The over-sized streets (due to lack of sidewalks) have relatively low traffic and are a great place to walk or jog in addition to providing ample parking spaces.
There's a small mercado less than a 1/4 mile (0.5km) that has all your basic staples, drinks & condiments and a larger grocery store approximately 1mi (~1.6km) that has a much larger fresh produce and butcher selection.
There are 2 bus stops 1 block away and access for light rail to downtown area is 2.5 miles away
We hope that you will be courteous and clean. We ask that you smoke only outside, we have a very nice sitting area on the deck and if the weather is bad, a nice area on the back porch. Guests are typically welcome to use the kitchen as long as you clean up after yourselves. The exception to this is when we provide breakfast, we will, of course, take care of the tidy up. Guests may use our laundry room and facilities if the need arises. We are really very flexible and open minded, but ask that only paying guests stay the night, unless we make other arrangements.

My roommates and I were here for a few weeks until our apartment was ready. John was really nice and helped us figure out Austin since we had all just moved to Texas. The house is really spacious and the yard has the best hammock. Everything was always clean and the place is just very cozy.
John is a great host and his home is beautiful. His 2 dogs are adorable an very friendly and the scones are scrumptious.
My husband and I took a long weekend in Austin for our babymoon (8 1/2 months pregnant, we wanted to get away before our little one joins us) and we also wanted to bring our pups. John's house was perfect!
John was very welcoming and thoughtful...he gave us usage of the house and backyard. He even let the puppies inside to chill while we spent the day at Barton Springs. The house is great and the room was a perfect size for us to use. This was way better than worrying about finding a dog sitter and we got the opportunity to meet a new person and share wonderful stories!
Great option if you need a place to stay on the north east side of town and it's right off 290 & 183...we could quickly get to any of the highways!
We had a very nice stay at John's lovely house. The decoration is very original, the atmosphere is cozy, we felt like home. John was very nice and helpful, especially when we had to come back for another night at the last last minute :). His attentions in the mornings were very good and very delicate of him. As for the dogs, 2 sweeties! We really had a great stay, highly recommend it!
John was very welcoming and informative upon our arrival to his house (that is tucked away in a very picturesque and quiet neighborhood). He showed us around his home which is polka-dotted with art and cool light fixtures, invited us to use his television and kitchen -- among other things -- as much as we pleased, and introduced us to his two black beauties of dogs who were very sweet and adorable. My friend and I spent most of our time in the city (only ever returning to use the restroom and beds which were neat and clean, as was the entire humble abode), so while we did not interact with John very much, he was always kind and understanding of our absence. I've only ever stayed in Austin twice (with friends, mind you), and this was by far my most comfortable experience. Right before we left, John baked us blueberry scones fresh out of the oven for our travel home, which would lead you to believe that he attended the finest culinary school in France. The next time I find myself visiting Austin, i'll likely be crashing in one of his spare beds again.
Our stay at John's was very comfortable. He even had breakfast ready for us when we woke up. Score!

Though a true Austinite (born here while my folks completed their graduate studies) I grew up abroad - in Saudi Arabia. The overseas experience and extensive travels through Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East during those formative years have developed within me an interest for exploring and meeting new people. I returned to Austin in the 80's to complete my 'formal' education at the University of Texas and I now work in Environmental Affairs in addition to restoring vintage camper trailers (when i finished the house remodel, I had to do something!) Other activities include traveling/camping, cycling, gardening, volunteering & burning man.
