Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We had a fantastic stay at Casa Caribe. The house is absolutely beautiful, and spacious, and Alexander and his wife went out of their way to make sure that my sister and I had a wonderful time in Puerto Viejo. They checked in on is at least once a day to make sure that everything was ok, and greeted us with coconuts and cocktails. Also, having access to a kitchen was fantastic, so we could cook up all of the vegetables we picked up at the Saturday farmers market.

We rented bikes for three days, and it was great knowing the bikes would be safe overnight, because of the locked gate in front of the house.

Due to a taxi strike, our shuttle driver was late picking us up on the day we checked out, and Alexander let us stay at the house and wait until close to 4:30, which was so generous of him. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to go back!

  • What an amazing location. Everything I was hoping for! The location was close to town and literally a stones throw away from the beach. Lot's of space and the hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. This city is great and is extremely beautiful, the house was the cherry on top!

  • Alex is great. The location and proximity to town is easy. The house is super nice and comfy. The only weird thing was that Alex asked for extra money to be able to use the A/C. I'd have rather just paid more upfront or had that potential charge listed on the airbnb site.

    Response from Alexander:

Dear Erin, the reason for the extra charge of A/C is because when you booked you did not pay for a house with A/C and the cost with A / C is $ 20 higher than what you paid, but I gave you the option in case you were interested in having A/C since this month is a bit to hot. hope this clarify the " weird action"

    Best wishes. Alex.

  • We had a great stay in puerto viejo at casa caribe. I would love to come back and bring my parents or friends. The house is a great size for 4 people. There is plenty of living space with lots of screened windows making the house airy and bright. It is clean, close to town, and close to beach. We will definitely come back if we are ever in the area.

  • My sister and I had a great stay at Casa Caribe! Alex was the best host, wooing us with fresh coconuts almost daily! He answered all of our questions, gave us advice, and arranged for our transportation. He even took us on a hike to see some gorgeous waterfalls! In addition to Alex being great, the house was also! I highly recommend staying here.

  • Casa Caribe is the perfect place to stay in Puerto Viejo and Alex (email hidden)!

We spent our one week honeymoon there and it was awesome. The house is big for one couple, and is very close to town but surrounded by nature. We mostly kept to ourselves and did several of the nice things to do around Puerto Viejo such as biking to Manzanillo, visiting the Cahuita national park, and rafting (highly recommended). Alex was around if needed and is accommodating and friendly. At one point he had us taste and drink two different types of coconut he had just cut off a tree, which was great.

    In short: Highly recommended.

Some tips: We spent 50 dollars each on a transfer (in our case it was Gecko Trails which we reserved online) directly from the airport to Casa Caribe and feel it was worth it. The drivers know the place just by name "Casa Caribe" or if needed you tell them its the street passing by "Kaya's place". The exchange on the "departure's" part of the Alajuela airport (second floor) is fair, you need to show a passport and say where you're staying, definitely buy some Colones there. There's also an ATM and a bank (also fair exchange rate) in Puerto Viejo, sometimes the ATM runs out of money (this happened our last weekend because of "Easter").

  • Very luxurious house. Very secure with a fence and gate. The patio on the second floor was great to hang out on the hammock and have breakfast at the table since it got nice cool breezes. The landscaping around the house was great too as there were lots of beautiful trees, plants and flowers. The were also lots of birds that would hang out around the house and sing their songs. Alex lives in the house right next door and we had him take us snorkeling in Manzanillo which was quite the treat (for an additional fee of course, but it was reasonable). It is a short walk to cross the street to get to the beautiful black sand beach which is great for swimming or just relaxing and taking in the ocean. Also just a short walk to get to the north side of town which has a good supermarket to buy food at.

  • The house is huge and beautiful. There are tons of windows but it’s well shaded and doesn’t get too hot. The bedrooms are small but it means the living room and kitchen are large and have tons of room to hang out in. The hammock on the upstairs deck was also really nice to hang out in!

The house is right outside of town, and away from the road (so it’s much quieter) but still close enough to walk to Playa Negra in a few minutes, or walk to the town in 10 mins or so. Not bad at all.

Alex (email hidden) and gave us recommendations when we asked about things to do in the area, and shared some of his favorites with us.

  • Alex's place was beautiful, spacious, clean and comfortable. Alex was a wonderful and welcoming host and he helped make our stay in Puerto Viejo comfortable and fun. The rental is perfectly situated near both the town of Puerto Viejo and the beach. It was the perfect location for our vacation needs.

  • We had an amazing time in Casa Caribe. (As others before me wrote) Casa Caribe is specious, beautiful and a very comfortable place to stay in. We took our kids (5 & 2) and opted for the ac option. The daily SIESTA became such a great time for relaxing and recharging before the evenings adventure. The kitchen is very convenient, we cooked and had salads when we didn't think the kids will handle eating out (or the long wait for the food...). The place is close enough to Puerto Viejo, that there is no problem getting there with the kids by foot, but not too close to suffer from the noise. It's very close to Playa Negra, which is great for swimming (be sure to remember your flip flops as the sand does get hot). And Alex and Yanira. Great hosts, attentive, welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Everything you would want your hosts to be.
Grasias por todo, Pura Vida! :-)
    Liel and family.
