The space
This mountain vacation retreat is comfortable and spacious, surrounded by meadows and towering pines. This quiet retreat is two minutes from the town beach on lovely Loon Lake, close to many hiking trails, but just 10 minutes from the interstate, 8 minutes from shopping in Chestertown, 20 minutes from skiing on Gore Mountain. Several restaurants are nearby.

5 bedrooms, 1 with a queen, 1 with a full bed and 1 twin bed, 1 with a full bed, 1 with a twin and a trundle bed, 1 with a bunk bed and twin. Three full bathrooms and 2 screened porches.

The house is comfortably furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, microwave and toaster oven, washer/dryer, and lots of games, books and puzzles. There is a gas grill for outdoor cooking on the un-screened part of the large porch. The walk-out lower level family room has a ping pong table, large USGS topographical (URL HIDDEN) map of the Adirondacks for planning your excursions and hikes, and a reading nook with lots of Adirondack-themed books. There is also a telescope for gazing at the stars without any distracting city lights.

The house is about 10 years old. The exterior Adirondack-siding of bark-trimmed boards is made from trees grown on the site.

There is a large screened porch with a generous dining table that seats 10 easily. The smaller screened porch is off the master bedroom.

On the lower walk-out level, there is one large bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 single with an attached full bathroom (with a bathtub) that also has a door to the family room with the ping pong table. That level also has another bedroom with a double bed and a bunk room with 2 bunk beds and 1 single.

On the main floor, the great room has a high sloped ceiling, facing a wall of windows. All the windows throughout the house have lovely views of meadows and forest. At one end of the great room is the kitchen with a door to the large screened porch. Next to the kitchen and its games shelves is the dining table that seats 6. The center of the great room has a bay window overlooking the large meadow. Opposite that is the reading nook with a comfortable leather chair and boat-shaped bookcase. At the far end of the great room from the kitchen is a futon and loveseat that bracket the propane fireplace. There is also a TV set for watching DVDs and videos. We have some, but feel free to bring your own. (limited cable)

Also on the main floor are two bedrooms and two full, accessible bathrooms. The master bedroom has queen-sized bed, handmade quilt on the wall, and small screened porch with two Adirondack chairs; the other single bedroom has with its own exterior door and ramp. Both bedrooms open onto a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and walls of tile and pine paneling. Another bathroom opens to the great room.

Where you’ll be

Chestertown, New York, United States

The meadows and woods are the immediate neighborhood. You will reach the house by going a short way down a dirt road that is very quiet, though there are other homes in the area. The house is set back from the road. The meadows are wonderful for children to play in. Everyone is very friendly. Some years we have seen fawns playing, a family of wild turkeys, or a fox. Find the vintage stone wall hidden in our woods.
Chestertown is about 10 minutes away with shops and a Wednesday farmers market on Wednesdays in the summer. The beach on Loon Lake with lots of sand and a lifeguard is 2 minutes away.
The house is conveniently located for day trips. The interstate is 15 minutes away, linking you to lots of hiking trails, the High Peaks, Lake George, and many attractions. Check out (URL HIDDEN) for more details.

During your stay

We live in Baltimore, so unfortunately we are not always able to interact with guests (though we would like to). We are quickly available by phone and internet. We do have people available in the area who act as our backup.
