Toronto is a big beautiful city. It's a city of great neighbourhoods in little pockets spread over a wide area but with a dense core and really good transit in central areas. It's a multi-dimensional mecca with every kind of art, culture, entertainment, commerce, education and food.
Our home is in Mimico, one of Toronto's quiet residential areas that is central but not downtown and right on Lake Ontario. Amos Waites Park (on the lake shore) is just three blocks from our home and the Martin Goodman Trail is just a few minutes walk down the road and runs along Toronto's waterfront right across the city. For the scenic route take the streetcar or borrow our bicycles and it's a short ride downtown to artsy Queen St West for lunch and great shopping. On Dundas St a few minutes further is the Art Gallery of Ontario with its 2008 Frank Gehry redesign and the largest collection of Henry Moore sculptures in the world.
If you go along Lakeshore Blvd you will pass Toronto's huge High Park with its beautiful Grenadier Pond (almost a lake!) with swans, geese, cherry trees, many trails and even a zoo. If you don't continue downtown you can walk or ride up through the park to Bloor West Village or Roncesvalles. While passing High Park on Lakeshore's left you'll see Sunnyside Beach and its boardwalk on your right with a large swimming pool, many park benches and a thoroughfare of Toronto's walkers, runners, roller bladers, cyclists and rowers.
When you want to take the quick transit route, the bus leaves from our corner and it will get you to the subway station in 15 minutes from our door. Once you're on the subway you can travel quickly all over the city.
If you're home with us In the evenings you will be welcome to join us in the family room for conversation or to watch tv or a movie. In the summer Toronto is often hot and we like to relax on the shaded back deck while we grill dinner or on one of the seats in the garden.
We keep the house very clean, it is spacious and recently renovated with a modern aesthetic. The rooms are large and bright with big opening windows and each has a double bed with a real mattress and box spring. Also provided is a private lounging seat, desk/chair, tv and wireless internet. Depending on how many guests we have, the washroom will be for your use alone or shared with up to two other guests (we also have a powder room for emergencies).
With its central location, great access to transit and being near the lake we are in one of Toronto's best and little known areas. While much of the city bakes in the summer the lake keeps us a few degrees cooler and likewise, the lake effect makes the winter so much easier by being a few degrees warmer here than it is just a few minutes north. We're close enough to have ease of access to downtown but just far enough from the core to have quiet and some space to breathe.
Come join us for a personal Torontonian experience.
We have an eat-in kitchen and dining room for meals; no eating in the bedroom. No smoking in the house.
We ask that if you shower in the evenings that you be done by 10pm. We will leave quietly as we go to work early in the morning and likewise we ask guests to come and go and use the bathroom in the same manner. We keep the house very clean but in the interest of limiting the volume of cleaning we ask guests to use only the upstairs washroom.
We are open to people of any age and families with children (as long as we aren't confused with babysitters :). Maximum occupancy is two adults and one child per bedroom (unless two are too young to be alone in a room) but feel free to contact us about special circumstances.
There is a kettle, microwave, toaster, outdoor grill (and a spare fridge in our basement) available for your use but no other meal preparation.
Please be prepared to show picture ID if we do not recognize you from your airbnb profile.
I love my home and couldn't live without a place that I put my own sweat equity into and which relfects my personal style. My kitchen is great because I designed and built it myself and love cooking. My deck and garden are where I get to unwind and enjoy the fruits of my labour. I also have a passion for trying new restaurants and going for long walks along our lakeshore to work off my food indulgences.
I have travelled extensively in North America, Europe, the Carribean and Central America. Some of my favourite destinations are Costa Rica, Montego Bay, Jamaica, London and Florence, Italy.
As a host I will leave you to your own devices and the house is big enough for everyone to have their own space. I am quiet and go to bed fairly early and I'm up early and can provide a wake up knock/call. I have a wealth of information available about Toronto from living here my whole life but I'm not one to offer advice without having been asked.
If I had a life motto it would probably be, "live and let live".
