so I cannot guarantee weather, water or air temp in February….the pool temp depends on how much sun we get
water warms up (not quite as warm as july-sept temps) after consecutive sunny days.

I was swimming in Hilo bay on sunday and water there was quite warm as there is a large shallow area, and also,
there is a HOT POND in Kapoho, both areas are 20-25 minute drive in opposite directions to us.

we are adding solar panels but have not installed yet, not sure if would be added before your arrival.
The French couple who left a few weeks ago swam every day , at NIGHT!..

you can jump into hot tub and go back and forth for an invigorating and healthy back and forth for exercise or just fun.

the big island has quite many pockets of warmer water at various snorkel spots due to geothermal springs at the kapoho area, as well as Mauna Lani Bay by hotel
the place of refuge another hour further, a popular tourist attraction as well as the two steps entry for dolphin swims and snorkeling.
you can also snorkel in hilo bay where we always see at least one turtle if not 4-5.,,photo of the bay on our website

Nida communicated very well in advance of our arrival. We had great directions to the place and the key was in the lock box as described. As others has said, this is very remote, about 20 minutes away from the nearest grocery store or food, so plan accordingly. This literally is right no the water. We went to be listening to the ocean waves crash on the rocks. There isn't a beach nearby, but the tide pools about 20 minutes away were amazing. Being able to walk right out off the back deck to the lava rock and see the surf crashing on the rocks was really cool. This is totally off the beaten path, and is a great quiet getaway. The furnishings are a little dated, but everything was clean.

This facility with both the house and the cabana would be a great place for large family, where a couple could split off and stay in the cabana. It'd be a great place to chill and enjoy the great view. But be aware that's it's several miles to the nearest grocery store and/or restaurants. Our original Airbnb host cancelled at the last minute and we were fortunate to find Nida's cabana. There was another family staying at the house on the property; they were very nice and we didn't cross paths a lot, but it was a little awkward. The cabana is a single bedroom with a full bath (but no door). Note there is no kitchen in the cabana; there is a microwave and mini fridge and we did most of our cooking on the gas grill outside, so it worked out OK.

When we arrived, we found the key in the lockbox, exactly as described, and we found the studio to be clean and cheerful, with fresh new linens and towels. To our surprise, it was not musty or moldy at all, which is always a concern at a property so close to the ocean. All the necessities were in place, and we were able to cook up a batch of rice with the very nice supplied rice cooker and have dinner within a short time after our arrival. The small refrigerator was fine for keeping our food (we shop every day or two at the local markets), and the microwave, coffee maker, and barbeque worked well. There are lightweight non-stick pots and pans in the studio, and I even made french toast in a skillet on the barbeque one morning. The room is cozy but comfortable, with a nice queen-size bed, a ceiling fan, two small chairs, and a nice bathroom. It has a nice flat-screen TV with DirecTV, which we never used. There is also a second detached bathroom that is shared with the main house, which is very handy for showering. We spent most of our non-sleeping time here on the deck, which is expansive and lovely. There is a table with four chairs, as well as a sink for doing dishes and cleaning up. It looks a bit odd to a mainlander, but it worked quite well - I encouraged the owner to expand it into a small outdoor kitchen, because there is no room inside for any more appliances. The pool and hot tub were very nice. The pool was a bit brisk while we were there, but we swam and played in it just fine. The pool does not have a very shallow section anywhere except the entrance, so it is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN who do not swim well. I can include a couple of caveats. This is a perfect place for one person, two people if you really are accustomed to one another., but there's really no place for anyone more. Also, the deck, pool, hot tub, and second bathroom are all shared with the other house on the property. If you want privacy and there are people in the house, your only option may be to go into the studio. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed the company of the folks who were staying in the house while we were there, and it worked out perfectly. There are very few places where you can have the experience of being right on the water, being lulled to sleep by the waves on the rocks just a hundred feet or so away. From the deck we saw whales frolicking in the ocean just offshore, and thoroughly enjoyed all the sights and experiences in Puna. This is a truly unique location and situation that we would recommend to any single person or close couple.
