About this listing
Our 1847 Greek Revival home has easy access to Norwich Univ., Montpelier, Sugarbush, Mad River & Central VT. 1 to 4 guests can enjoy two private upstairs bedrooms and bath. Share the rest of the house with us and enjoy a cozy wood stove or the deck.
We're two world travelers and artists who love to meet new people. We work in education and as advocates for people with special needs. Our house is a beautiful 1847 Greek Revival, and we're looking forward to sharing it with you!
We have two upstairs bedrooms; both with double beds. Private bathroom with tub that the two rooms share. We only host one group at a time so if you are using one room, the other will be empty. The first bedroom is $60 a night for one or two people. The second room is available, to people in the same party, the cost per night for each additional person over two is $25.00. We will work something out if it is two people who do not want to share a room.
You will feel right at home with lots of books and paintings on the walls. We will need to coordinate kitchen use, but the living room, sun porch or back yard deck are always available. You can explore the barn if you want!
Our mailing address is Northfield, but we are really in Northfield Falls. It is five minutes to Norwich University in Northfield, twelve minutes to Montpelier, fifty minutes to Burlington, thirty minutes to Sugarbush and Waitsfield.
There is a restaurant/pub, country store, and three covered bridges just across street. A few minutes away is a grocery store & hardware store. In Northfield there is a Subway, breakfast spot, pharmacy, sandwich store and Irish pub.
Montpelier is the state capital and home to the New England Culinary School. There are many great restaurants and cute stores plus the capital and other buildings of historic interest.
No smoking inside. We have one very friendly dog, and one cat, but do not allow other pets. A lint roller is highly recommended. WIFI is available.
We are happy to share the living areas of our house. For the kitchen, we just need to make a workable arrangement for all. We have a beautiful back yard that you are free to use year round. (we have extra snowshoes)
Interaction with Guests
We will be present at the listing. You can interact with us as little or as much as you like. We enjoy meeting people and hanging out, but can also give you your privacy. We have a dog and cat, but do not host pets. We provide a continental breakfast of locally made cinnamon rolls and coffee. We have made people other things, but with our schedule you can't count on that.
With a car, our neighborhood is convenient to ski areas, shopping and the big city of Montpelier. We are centrally located and not as expensive as staying in the ski resorts. There are some beautiful drives from here, Montpelier, the capital, has movies and great restaurants. Hope Cemetery in Barre is an amazing display of granite carving. There is a wonderful upscale deli across the street. They have breakfast, amazing sandwiches and supplies for a great picnic. Nice wine selection as well.
There is a commuter shuttle bus to Northfield or Montpelier in the morning and late afternoon. It stops across the street and is $1:00 each way.
Other Things to Note
If you don't like dogs, you don't want to stay with us. Our dog is very friendly and gets depressed when people don't like her. We do not host other pets.
No smoking inside, no pets or guns. Be nice. Thanks!
We arrived late in the evening to Jeneane and Jim's and Jim was incredibly kind to wait up for us. We stayed for one night and unfortunately we didn't meet Jeneane but Jim was very friendly and helpful during the stay. The room is clean and cosy , and the bed was great. The backyard and the surrounding environment were breathtaking! In the morning Jim gave us the best cinnamon rolls, having never tried them before, and we are now forever hooked! I loved meeting their pets since I was missing my own cat. I definitely recommend Jeneane and Jim's place to everyone! It was wonderful and we couldn't have wished for a better stay!
Jeneane and Jim greeted me at the door and helped me with my bags after a long, tiring trip. The room was just perfect with the bathroom right next door. A beautiful old farmhouse not far from the general store and covered bridges. Everyone was very friendly including the furry friends of the household.
They were very welcoming! We were running late but they greeted us outside. The bedrooms were great. We loved that the place was run off of solar panels! Beautiful backyard and garden. They treated us to cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning.
Jim was a great host! Sadly, I didn't happen to run into Jeanne during my stay. Their pets were super friendly and very well behaved. Their home is very historic (don't worry, it has modern amenities). I particularly enjoyed the patio behind their attached barn--perfect for watching the stars after a long day of hiking. Just note that breakfast is cinnamon buns and coffee.
This was our second visit with Jeaneane and Jim; this fact alone speaks to our absolute satisfaction of our hosts and their accommodations. The hosts are low key, charming and considerate making our stay most pleasurable and relaxing. We so enjoyed learning about their escapades in Italy and upcoming family events. Chatter is easy and reciprocal. Sunning ourselves on the deck after a hectic day, or awakening to fresh coffee and those awesome sticky buns is heavenly. Debbie and Michael
Jim & Jeneane sont de chaleureux hôtes et leurs nombreux conseils pour visiter la région nous à permis de bien profiter de notre séjour.
Merci Beaucoup !
My first experience with airbnb was wonderful thanks to Jeneane and Jim. Their home is 5 minutes away from Norwich University, as promised, and they provided very detailed directions to help me find it. Jim is a friendly host who is relaxing to talk to and very helpful, he made me a great breakfast in the morning and we sat and talked as if we were friends for years. The suite itself is clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay again if my son decides to attend Norwich. Thank you both for a great stay!
About the Host, Jeneane
I am an artist and teacher. I have a daughter in her 20's who lives in Boston and is attending grad school at Tufts. My husband, Jim, is the best. He works with adults with disabilities, is a great cook and has traveled all over when he was younger. He was in Africa and Jamaica as a peace corp volunteer. He can do just about anything if he is interested in it. We have been very happy together for 25 years. Our favorite destination is Italy. We love the people, the food and painting landscape. We are easy going and patient and love to meet new people. We have had two foreign exchange students, a family from Finland, a teacher from China and an educator from Uzbekistan live with us. Last month we hosted three exchange students from Thailand.
