Our 1847 Greek Revival home has easy access to Norwich Univ., Montpelier, Sugarbush, Mad River & Central VT. 1 to 4 guests can enjoy two private upstairs bedrooms and bath. Share the rest of the house with us and enjoy a cozy wood stove or the deck.

The Space

We're two world travelers and artists who love to meet new people. We work in education and as advocates for people with special needs. Our house is rented for the entire summer, but we are accepting booking for the beautiful Vermont fall. Our house is a beautiful 1847 Greek Revival, and we're looking forward to sharing it with you!

We have two upstairs bedrooms; both with double beds. Private bathroom with tub that the two rooms share. We only host one group at a time so if you are using one room, the other will be empty. The first bedroom is $55 a night for one or two people. The second room is available, to people in the same party, the cost per night for each additional person over two is $20.00. We will work something out if it is two people who do not want to share a room.

You will feel right at home with lots of books and paintings on the walls. We will need to coordinate kitchen use, but the living room, sun porch or back yard deck are always available. You can explore the barn if you want!

Our mailing address is Northfield, but we are really in Northfield Falls. It is five minutes to Norwich University in Northfield, twelve minutes to Montpelier, fifty minutes to Burlington, thirty minutes to Sugarbush and Waitsfield.

There is a restaurant/pub, country store, and three covered bridges just across street. A few minutes away is a grocery store, hardware store and pharmacy. In Northfield there is a Subway, breakfast spot, sandwich store and Irish pub.

Montpelier is the state capital and home to the New England Culinary School. There are many great restaurants and cute stores plus the capital and other buildings of historic interest.

No smoking inside. We have one very friendly dog, and one cat, but do not allow other pets. A lint roller is highly recommended. WIFI is available.

Guest Access

We are happy to share the living areas of our house. For the kitchen, we just need to make a workable arrangement for all. We have a beautiful back yard that you are free to use year round. (we have extra snowshoes)

Interaction with Guests

We will be present at the listing. You can interact with us as little or as much as you like. We enjoy meeting people and hanging out, but can also give you your privacy. We have a dog and cat, but do not host pets.

The Neighborhood

With a car, our neighborhood is convenient to ski areas, shopping and the big city of Montpelier. We are centrally located and not as expensive as staying in the ski resorts. There are some beautiful drives from here, Montpelier, the capital, has movies and great restaurants. Hope Cemetery in Barre is an amazing display of granite carving.

Getting around

There is a commuter shuttle bus to Northfield or Montpelier in the morning and late afternoon. It stops across the street and is $1:00 each way.

Other Things to Note

If you don't like dogs, you don't want to stay with us. Our dog is very friendly and gets depressed when people don't like her. We do not host other pets.

Check In
  • Jeneane and Jim were excellent hosts. They have a beautiful home and the room we stayed in was very cozy and inviting. They were extremely helpful and provided us with some great tips on the area. We had a busy weekend planned since we were in town for a wedding and we wanted to explore as much of the are as possible- I wish we could have spent more time getting to know them.

  • What incredible people Jim and Jeneane are! Both are artists, well-rounded and well-traveled, which made me feel at home immediately. Kind, generous, and open-hearted, Jim and Jeneane, were excellent hosts. The morning cappuccino was a perfect start to my day! The house was full of character and art and love. The rooms are clean and perfect and I slept like a baby both nights, even with Jim's fair warning about the sound of a freight train that passes through the town some time around 3 a.m. This is another excellent airbnb value.

  • Jim and Jeneane could not have been more gracious hosts. The second floor of their house makes a lovely private 2 BR and a bath suite and they are great company too.

  • Janeane and Jim's home is very charming. The two bedrooms are comfortable, and it was nice having a small portion of the house to ourselves. Jim was very helpful with suggesting places to visit, and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have known about the apple cider doughnuts at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. The house was a little noisy in the evenings because of traffic and noise from the pub.

  • What a fabulous find for us - minutes away from the Norwich campus! Cozy, comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Jeaneane and Jim were wonderful hosts - made us feel welcomed and right at home. Enjoyed Jim's home brew as we chatted on the porch, making friends with the family critters and sharing experiences.

  • Jeneane and Jim are incredibly kind hosts. We felt right at home when we arrived and they were so welcoming to our family. The coffee and cinnamon rolls in the mornings were a lovely start to the day and we were allowed to use the kitchen for other meals. The location was perfect for our purposes since we were mostly based in Northfield. It's also quite close to Montpelier for shopping and restaurants. Angie, their dog, is a sweet and mellow pet.

  • Lovely house and room with lots of nice touches - interesting books and VT magazines. Host a pleasure to visit with. Nice quick breakfast and off for a ski day at Mad River. Would do again

  • Jim and Jeneane were perfect hosts. Don't pass up Jim's breakfast; it is a treat! Great people and conversation.

  • we really enjoyed our overnight with jeneane and jim in their awesome mid-1800s solar farmhouse. we had fun, inspiring conversations about world travel especially cuisine :) i could definitely live this way!

    February 2014
  • I stayed with Jeanane and husband Jim for 10 days while I attended a writing seminar in nearby Montpelier. My private suite was just what I needed and owners were extremous hospitable and generous.

Teacher and advocate for people with disabilities
I am an artist and teacher. I have a daughter in her 20's who lives in Boston and is attending grad school at Tufts. My husband, Jim, is the best. He works with adults with disabilities, is a great cook and has traveled all over when he was younger. He was in Africa and Jamaica as a peace corp volunteer. He can do just about anything if he is interested in it. We have been very happy together for 25 years. Our favorite destination is Italy. We love the people, the food and painting landscape. We are easy going and patient and love to meet new people. We have had two foreign exchange students, a family from Finland, a teacher from China and an educator from Uzbekistan live with us. Last month we hosted three exchange students from Thailand.
