Our 1847 Greek Revival home has easy access to Norwich Univ., Montpelier, Sugarbush, Mad River & Central VT. 1 to 4 guests can enjoy two private upstairs bedrooms and bath. Share the rest of the house with us and enjoy a cozy wood stove or the deck.
We're two world travelers and artists who love to meet new people. We work in education and as advocates for people with special needs. Our house is a beautiful 1847 Greek Revival, and we're looking forward to sharing it with you!
We have two upstairs bedrooms; both with double beds. Private bathroom with tub that the two rooms share. We only host one group at a time so if you are using one room, the other will be empty. The first bedroom is $60 a night for one or two people. The second room is available, to people in the same party, the cost per night for each additional person over two is $25.00. We will work something out if it is two people who do not want to share a room.
You will feel right at home with lots of books and paintings on the walls. We will need to coordinate kitchen use, but the living room, sun porch or back yard deck are always available. You can explore the barn if you want!
Our mailing address is Northfield, but we are really in Northfield Falls. It is five minutes to Norwich University in Northfield, twelve minutes to Montpelier, fifty minutes to Burlington, thirty minutes to Sugarbush and Waitsfield.
There is a restaurant/pub, country store, and three covered bridges just across street. A few minutes away is a grocery store & hardware store. In Northfield there is a Subway, breakfast spot, pharmacy, sandwich store and Irish pub.
Montpelier is the state capital and home to the New England Culinary School. There are many great restaurants and cute stores plus the capital and other buildings of historic interest.
No smoking inside. We have one very friendly dog, and one cat, but do not allow other pets. A lint roller is highly recommended. WIFI is available.
We are happy to share the living areas of our house. For the kitchen, we just need to make a workable arrangement for all. We have a beautiful back yard that you are free to use year round. (we have extra snowshoes)
Interaction with Guests
We will be present at the listing. You can interact with us as little or as much as you like. We enjoy meeting people and hanging out, but can also give you your privacy. We have a dog and cat, but do not host pets.
With a car, our neighborhood is convenient to ski areas, shopping and the big city of Montpelier. We are centrally located and not as expensive as staying in the ski resorts. There are some beautiful drives from here, Montpelier, the capital, has movies and great restaurants. Hope Cemetery in Barre is an amazing display of granite carving. There is a wonderful upscale deli across the street. They have breakfast, amazing sandwiches and supplies for a great picnic. Nice wine selection as well.
There is a commuter shuttle bus to Northfield or Montpelier in the morning and late afternoon. It stops across the street and is $1:00 each way.
Other Things to Note
If you don't like dogs, you don't want to stay with us. Our dog is very friendly and gets depressed when people don't like her. We do not host other pets.
No smoking inside, no pets or guns. Be nice. Thanks!
My first experience with airbnb was wonderful thanks to Jeneane and Jim. Their home is 5 minutes away from Norwich University, as promised, and they provided very detailed directions to help me find it. Jim is a friendly host who is relaxing to talk to and very helpful, he made me a great breakfast in the morning and we sat and talked as if we were friends for years. The suite itself is clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay again if my son decides to attend Norwich. Thank you both for a great stay!
Jeneane and her husband were extremely welcoming and provided a perfect place for my father and I to stay. The rooms were spacious and provided exactly what I was looking for to visit my son at school. The location was ideal because it was less than 5 minutes from Norwich University, a 15 minute drive to Montpelier and had a wonderful little country store across the street. They recommended some fabulous restaurants for me to take my son to in both Norwich and Montpelier as well as directing us to the Cider Mill for the most fabulous donuts. My father and I enjoyed the conversations we had with the hosts and it truly felt like a home away from home. Although we enjoyed the company of the hosts, there were also times that we came home tired and easily secluded ourselves in our part of the home and rested for the next day. You would not be disappointed with this location, the hosts or the home.
Jeneane and Jim were exceptional hosts, friendly, welcoming and warm. They greeted me at the train station and offered multiple rides. They made sure I was comfortable, and even invited me to a dinner at their friends'!
Their house is conveniently located off one of the main routes in town, close to Norwich University, a restaurant, a shop and a winery. It is nice, clean, and peaceful, with fine art work by Jeneane and Jim resting on almost every wall.
I enjoyed my stay for it felt like home. I would love to return and see them again.
Jim waited up for us and personally greeted us even though we arrived at a late hour. In the morning we were greeted with hot coffee and fresh cinnamon buns. If you are animal friendly, you will love their dog, Angie, and Cat. They made sure we knew how to get where we were going and what places were interesting to visit in the area. Jeneane and Jim were great to sit and chat with and they shared some of their life story with us. We felt very welcomed and at home and had a lovely visit.
Jeneane and Jim were excellent hosts. Their home was beautifully decorated and they made us feel very welcome in it. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed looking through the books in our room. Also, it was very nice to be able to simply walk across the street to the Rustic for dinner after a long day riding in the car.
I loved staying with here! It was 10 minutes from Norwich and 15 to Montpellier. Perfect distance. Jim and Jeanene are such perfect hosts amazing friendly and even had a Keurig out for us to use! Room was a perfect size for my baby fiancée and I. The bathroom does get cold at times so I would suggest bringing slippers. But overall, Perfect place to stay and commute if you need to be in central Vermont!
Jeneane and Jim were fantastic, very welcoming and kind. Angie, their dog, was amazing as well. It was exactly what we needed to start our ski vacation off right!
I am an artist and teacher. I have a daughter in her 20's who lives in Boston and is attending grad school at Tufts. My husband, Jim, is the best. He works with adults with disabilities, is a great cook and has traveled all over when he was younger. He was in Africa and Jamaica as a peace corp volunteer. He can do just about anything if he is interested in it. We have been very happy together for 25 years. Our favorite destination is Italy. We love the people, the food and painting landscape. We are easy going and patient and love to meet new people. We have had two foreign exchange students, a family from Finland, a teacher from China and an educator from Uzbekistan live with us. Last month we hosted three exchange students from Thailand.
