Description

The space

We're two world travelers and artists who love to meet new people. We work in education and as advocates for people with special needs. Our house is a beautiful 1847 Greek Revival, and we're looking forward to sharing it with you!

We have an upstirs bedroom with a queen size bed. There is a private bathroom with tub .
You will feel right at home with lots of books and paintings on the walls. We will need to coordinate kitchen use, but the living room, sun porch or back yard deck are always available. You can explore the barn if you want!

Our mailing address is Northfield, but we are really in Northfield Falls. It is a five minute drive to Norwich University in Northfield, twelve minutes to Montpelier, fifty minutes to Burlington, thirty minutes to Sugarbush and Waitsfield.

There is a restaurant/pub, country store, and three covered bridges just across street. A few minutes away is a grocery store & hardware store. In Northfield there is a Subway, breakfast spot, pharmacy, sandwich store and Burger place.

Montpelier is the state capital and home to the New England Culinary School. There are many great restaurants and cute stores plus the capital and other buildings of historic interest.

No smoking inside. We have one very friendly dog, and one cat, but do not allow other pets. A lint roller is highly recommended. WIFI is available.

Guest access

We are happy to share the living areas of our house. Your safety and comfort are our priorities. If you feel there is something that is unsafe, please let us know. For the kitchen, we just need to make a workable arrangement for all. We have a beautiful back yard that you are free to use year round. (we have extra snowshoes)(remember, safety first!)

Interaction with guests

We will be present at the listing. You can interact with us as little or as much as you like. We enjoy meeting people and hanging out, but can also give you your privacy. We have a dog and cat, but do not host pets. We provide a continental breakfast of locally made cinnamon rolls and coffee. We have made people other things, but with our schedule you can't count on that.

The neighborhood

With a car, our neighborhood is convenient to ski areas, shopping and the big city of Montpelier. We are centrally located and not as expensive as staying in the ski resorts. There are some beautiful drives from here. Montpelier, the capital, has movies and great restaurants. Hope Cemetery in Barre is an amazing display of granite carving. There is a wonderful upscale deli across the street. They have breakfast, amazing sandwiches and supplies for a great picnic. Nice wine selection as well.

Getting around

There is a commuter shuttle bus to Northfield or Montpelier in the morning and late afternoon. It stops across the street and is $2 each way.

Other things to note

If you don't like dogs, you don't want to stay with us. Our dog is very friendly and gets depressed when people don't like her. We do not host other pets.

Jeneane and Jim are good hosts, attentive and caring. The neighborhood is quiet. There is a pub across the road and the downtown is about 2 min away by a car.

Wonderful quick stay! The bed was so comfortable. The close vicinity to visit our daughter at Norwich was a huge plus! Only draw back was that there is no shower, only a tub. Would stay here again!!

Jeneane and Jim are wonderful people! Their home becomes your home as soon as you enter. Jim gave me the house tour and then the three of us sat for coffee and conversation while I patted Angie, their beautiful and lovable dog. I was in Northfield to watch my daughter in a basketball tournament at Norwich University. I chose this property for it's proximity to the college, just over a mile away - perfect. My room was storybook New England. A quaint room upstairs with a slanted ceiling, wide pine floors and a cozy bed with a snug comforter. I slept like a baby. In the morning I ran up Cox Brook Rd. across the street. I turned left at Falls General Store, ran over three old covered bridges, over the railroad tracks, past the falls and along the river for miles while light snow fell frosting the mountains and evergreens. Then I followed the smell of burning wood back to Jeneane and Jim's for breakfast. But first, a tub shower in a spotless bathroom where I was grateful to find shampoo and shower gel since I'd forgotten to pack those when I left Boston. After Coffeecake, fruit, coffee and more conversation I bid them all good-bye. I will always remember them and miss them. I drove back up Cox Brook Rd. to take pictures of the sites I had run past. I stopped in Falls General Store to grab coffee for the road, but decided I couldn't pass up pancakes and local maple syrup and the chance to extend my Vermont experience a little longer. Snow flurries continued just enough to be festive for the season and before heading to my daughter's basketball game I stopped to buy a fresh cut Christmas tree. After the game which she won, I headed back to Boston with the tree tied to the roof. When I crossed the Connecticut River into New Hampshire the snow stopped. Hollywood couldn't have scripted a better experience. You can imagine a Vermont fairy tale or you can find your own. If I were you I start at Jim and Jeneane's.

I am an artist and teacher. I have a daughter in her 20's who lives in Boston and is attending grad school at Tufts. My husband, Jim, is the best. He works with adults with disabilities, is a great cook and has traveled all over when he was younger. He was in Africa and Jamaica as a peace corp volunteer. He can do just about anything if he is interested in it. We have been very happy together for30 years. Our favorite destination is Italy. We love the people, the food and painting landscape. We are easy going and patient and love to meet new people. We have had two foreign exchange students, a family from Finland, a teacher from China and an educator from Uzbekistan live with us. Last month we hosted three exchange students from Thailand.
