Loft - Private room · McKibbin St, Brooklyn, NY 11206, United States

Hi friends! I'm just getting this listing rebooted after a little inactivity, so to celebrate (and get your butt in my door) I'm offering a REDUCED RATE for the month of February at $50/night!! So see you soon? LOVE

The Space

Hello,

Welcome to our Bushwick home! We live in a beautiful, sun-filled loft in one of Brooklyn's hippest up-and-coming neighborhoods. Although the fast-paced life of New York City keeps us busy and away often, when we are home we like to feel that our space is a welcoming oasis, and we would like to share it with you!

Highlights include:
. Private bedroom with LOFTED super comfy queen bed, plenty of storage space, full wall of windows and lots of light on the 3rd floor of a traditional loft building with 12-foot ceilings and hardwood floors.
. Access to huge, open kitchen built for those of us who love to cook. Big and comfy living room and dining room. Clean and cozy bathroom. Lots of sunlight and tons of plants and fresh cut flowers! Huge rooftop with beautiful views of the city. Laundry on premises.
. Coffee, tea, towels and fresh linens always provided. A wide variety of books available to borrow, and free copies of The New Yorker magazine to keep if you wish!
. An easy 4 minute walk to the L train at Morgan Ave or Montrose Ave, or a 10 minute walk to the JMZ trains, guaranteeing transport to the city in 20 minutes. Walking distance to Williamsburg, Greenpoint, parks and other attractions.
. Hip neighborhood filled with cute coffee shops, convenient health food markets, art galleries, bars, performance and music spaces, infamous Roberta's Pizza restaurant and up-and-coming MoMo's fusion sushi, funky graffiti, smells of bread baking factories, and gorgeous Manhattan skyline sunsets.

You will share the space with two hardworking creative types: Kalin, who will be completely a midwifery program in Mexico this fall, and Edwin, who I met in my yoga teacher training and is an incredible visual artist and writer. They are both thrilled to meet new people from around the world, and will be available to make sure you have everything you need!

Also, please note that with our full wall of south-facing windows, these lofts can get HOT during the summer. The private rooms are furnished with very effective air conditioners, but the common space and small, cozy room are cooled only by fans. During the winter, the apartment stays nice and warm as long as we get even a little sunshine, but the blankets on the bed are also super warm!

Finally, this is a BROOKLYN LOFT. This means that it is big, beautiful, funky and airy with great energy. It also means the walls are a bit thin (well, this is the case almost everywhere I've lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn!) and we must try to be respectful of our neighbors (even if they occasionally host parties, etc.) This is not luxury, it's loft life! And we love it! If you have any more questions about what my experience of this has been, please don't hesitate to ask.

If you are interested in staying, please make sure your profile is filled in and includes photos, and in your message let me know your plans for your stay in New York City. This is my home, and I am selective about who stay here! Again, send me a message with any questions, and then jump on board to come soak up the sun in our perfect Brooklyn Loft!

Guest Access

Guests will have access to all the common space in the apartment (full kitchen, bath, and living room) as well as the private bedroom. Laundry is on the floor and there is a fabulous roof, as long as no one has done anything stupid lately to get it closed down. :)

Interaction with Guests

Edwin and Kalin work busy hours in a variety of jobs (this is how we survive in NYC!) but they are truly excited to meet and get to know you, and offer friendly advice on the neighborhood and are likely to sit down for a coffee or glass of wine with you if you're into it! Edwin is responsible for making sure you have everything you need while you're there, so you'll have his contact information and should never hesitate to ask for anything.

The Neighborhood

Bushwick is literally changing every day, so this is such an exciting time to visit! It's an incredible mix of old factory buildings that have been converted into artist studios and residential lofts, and there are people out doing something at almost every hour. New coffee shops, bars, restaurants, thrift stores, yoga studios, and other funky and eclectic establishments keep popping up every time I turn a corner, so you'll always find something to explore. Finally, it's important to note that while this is indeed a neighborhood in transition (and like everywhere in the city, it's best to be alert and cautious) I've been a single woman living here for over three years and have never felt unsafe at any hour of the day or night.

Getting around

There's so much public transit, it's silly! Several bus lines can take you to different parts of Brooklyn, and the L train is just a few blocks away at either the Morgan or the Montrose stop to zip you directly to Williamsburg or lower Manhattan and Union Square with connections to almost every other train line! The JMZ is also about a 10 minute walk, with a variety of destinations. Be aware of weekend train schedules as there is often service work on all of the NYC subway system! There are always shuttle buses, but it's wise to plan accordingly. There are also a couple of bike rental places nearby - my personal favorite way to get around this incredible city. There's just nothing better than biking over those bridges!

  • Grayson is a friendly host and the Oasis is a perfect place to stay. We lived there for over a week and would like to come back! The only drawback is that it get's hot in the bedroom during the night, but it helped when we got more fans. The area has lots of cool places and is close to the metro.

  • I enjoyed my stay at the "Bushwick oasis." I had a little phone contact with Grayson, as well as a number of text messages, so communication wasn't too hard (although she wasn't staying there during the short, 3-night stay that I was there). The place was quite clean, quiet (surprisingly, being near a cement plant!) and was pretty much the way she described it in her listing.
A couple of things that weren't quite clear enough for me: 1. Bushwick isn't exactly in Williamsburg, so I was a little surprised about that - but it's quite close. I'd though the place was in Williamsburg, which has more restaurants and shops in it than Bushwick does, as I understand it. (I didn't make it to Williamsburg during my short visit to NYC this time.)
Also, I wasn't clear that I'd be sleeping in a loft. In the first room I slept in, the ceiling had several low pipes and a sharp-edged wooden corner on the bedstead, so I hit my head a few times. The other room with a loft (and a window, which was pretty needed, given the heat of the day and evening) had an easier ceiling, and Grayson let me move over to that room when it became empty, after my 2nd night there, so I appreciated that. It was supposed to cost a little more, but she said not to worry about it.
She needs to get the keys to work a little better on the apt. door.
But, other than these things, the people who stayed there at the same time with me were very nice, considerate people, and I exchanged email addresses with all 3 of them.
A pretty good choice for Brooklyn, that's close to Manhattan!

  • Grayson's place is great! The house is adorable and the neighborhood is wonderful, with many restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The train is a short walk away and it was easy to get everywhere we needed to go. I only saw Grayson a few times, but she was always available by phone to answer questions and help out. We would definitely stay here again!

  • We had just a wonderful time at Grayson's place! The apartment is gorgeous, sunny, clean, and perfectly located. the area is really nice, full of cafes, thrift shops and nice graffitis! The rooftop is a must see as well, we spent a lot of time there, just chilling and watching the sunset/sunrise through the manhattan skyline... beautiful!! Grayson was kind enough to recommend us wonderful places to go in the neighborhood, too. We would definitely stay there again, thanks Grayson :)

  • We had the best time staying at Grayson's! Great neighbourhood, nice house, gorgeous appartment! The appartment is equipped with everything that you might need. And we loved the style of the furniture and the decoration.

Besides going over to Manhattan, we took long strolls through the neighbourhood and enjoyed the closeness of great restaurants, coffee places and the rooftop with a stunning view!

Grayson was a great host! She was always easy to get in touch with and made sure everything was ok. Grayson gave us some recommendations too.

  • Grayson is awesome! We loved staying in her place. We only crossed over a couple of times during the 4 days we stayed with her but she always super friendly, helpful and chilled. The flat is in a great location near the L train and the loft itself is beautiful, light, nicely styled and clean.

  • We love Grayson! This apartment is such a wonder... oh my... we couldn't recommend a better place to stay in Brooklyn. It's so perfectly located. There's the subway station right round the corner, Roberta's pizza place, Momo's sushi place, and probably the coolest 24-hour organic/health food store ever discovered... The rooftop is Mind-blow-ing!!!! Plus you can't even imagine how many people we met just from going up there every so often. Everyone is so friendly, it's almost ridiculous. But back to Grayson, she's an awesome host, and an inspiring individual. We were lucky enough to get to hang out with her a few times, watch a film on her insanely cool home cinema, and even go to the jazz bar she works at. She's truly considered more than a host to us- she's now a gracious friend. She looked out for us, she even cooked for us once! IF YOU'RE LUCKY YOU GET TO TRY HER SALADS... holy moly, she's got one heck of a talent for salads. Oh and she's so nice to converse with, she really listens, cares about what you have to say and blatantly wants the best for you during your stay. This is where you want to be if you're looking to stay in Brooklyn! Thanks again Grayson for everything! Much love!!!

  • Grayson was such a great host and her apartment was central to everything we wanted to check out in Brooklyn -- and very close to a subway station to get into the city. While we weren't in the apartment very often, Grayson and her roommate were both so nice to be around and very accommodating when our schedules overlapped. The apartment is very cute and clean, and the room was the perfect size for a couple people to crash for a few nights. If you're looking for a place to stay in Brooklyn, look no further!

Thanks for a great experience, Grayson!

  • I was in New York for a long weekend and needed a place to stay last minute. I was new to Airbnb and had no idea how this whole process worked. Grayson was kind enough to work with me through it (note to self: do not contact anyone without a profile, that is just creepy!). Grayson = amazing! I felt like I knew her forever! She was so hospitable, engaging and chill.

The pictures she put up of her apartment doesn't give it any justice! This place is a must see! So homey and nothing but good vibes. The space was so comfortable and the bed was a dream. If you are a morning person and love windows, their is an awesome picture window that has a great view and let's in amazing sunlight in the morning. Not a morning person? That's okay too. The window has curtains that block the sun, without being too heavy for the room.

Grayson was really helpful with helping me navigate through the city and just so much fun! I never felt like I was in someone else's space, rather, it was my home four days. Although we were on totally different schedules, she'd always take time to chat with me and see how things in the city were. I can't get over how incredibly sweet and accommodating she was.

The location is prime! It is 2 blocks away from the L and a 15 minute walk to the J, M and G. The neighbor is vibrant and a 10 minute walk to bars, shops and a wonderful natural foods grocery around the corner. There seemed like zero dull moments in the neighborhood (without having obnoxious noise).

Grayson made this a seamless and fun process and I can't wait to do this again! If she wanted a permanent roommate, I would stay with her without thinking twice. You will not be disappointed.

    Thanks again Grayson!

About
I am an actor/dancer/singer/yoga teacher/burlesque performer/waitress/barista/bartender/do-too-many-things-er! Welcome to the world of New York City freelance. Currently, I am working as a yoga teacher and in a glorious little jazz bar in the West Village called Small's. I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire on the border of Vermont and have lived all over the world since I was a teenager, including Europe, West Africa, and India. I have traveled as a couch surfer often, and the generosity and love that I received when I stayed in other people's homes has inspired me to share my own. Unfortunately, living in this city is very expensive, and I am able to afford this incredible apartment by charging a reasonable daily rate. I hope to meet you soon! Some favorites: Music: Radiohead, Paul Simon, Bob Marley, James Blake. I love everything that makes me move and/or feel, from electronica to bluegrass to folk to jazz. Authors: J.D. Salinger, John Irving, Tom Robbins, Isabel Allende. I love beautiful characters and stories. Film: old black and whites, quirky comedies, dark dramas, fantastic fantasies. Too many favorites to list! Other: biking over bridges, my vegetable juicer, singing in the shower, dancing in the dark, instagram, cooking vegetarian brilliance, fancy soy lattes and cigarettes, tantra, astrology and magic.
