The Kong House is a very unique home on a 10 acre farm here on the North Shore of Kauai. For those who want to sip Pina Coladas next to the pool, this home probably is not the place for you?
The King Kong Cottage is for those who want to experience what it is like to be a local on Kauai and see all that the Island life has to offer. We grow all or own fruits and vegetables and raise all of our farm animals here at the King Kong Cottage.
Why do we call our home the King Kong? Well, that's because we are located right in front of the Kalalea Mountain Range, and for those who look close you can see King Kong sitting majestically watching the sunrise.
The King Kong Cottage has an outside restroom and shower, The toilet is a composting toilet. These toilets are common here in Kauai and prevalent in cabins or detached homes. We are a organic farm, these toilets are easy to use and do not stink, but can be a little unusual for the big city type of people.
Properly disposed human waste can save the environment and be effectively used as fertilizer. We compost all our produce and compost at the King Kong Cottage in the goal of try to be as least destructive to the environment as possible. Great location!
You can walk to the beach in approx 20 Min's & drive to locations like waterfalls, sea caves, mountain climbing, sunrise shell collecting, lobster diving & of course unbelievable surfing in about 15 min drive....this home is approx 8 minutes away from town and restaurants.
Our home comes with a 60 inch smart WiFi TV with surround sound home theater, great for watching movies at night or enjoy what Netflix has to offer.

The King Kong cottage was awesome and magical. I'm so glad I began my vacation here. This is a perfect place for the eco-friendly and the not so much. As a bit of a princess, I can confirm that the composting toilets definitely do not stink! The cottage was wonderful and I'd definitely stay there again. And if you like a bit of adventure, Big Wave Dave will definitely have it for you. We thoroughly enjoyed prawn fishing at night and only wish we could have caught more. This location is also closely located to a very down beat not too touristic town of Kapa'a. All in all great people, great times.
We had a wonderful time in the King Kong cottage. The house was great, the beach stunning and the island just perfect. Only backdrop when it rains the way to the cottage becomes rather muddy. Definitely a great experience!
The cottage my wife and I stayed at was comfortable, charming and had everything we needed during our vacation. The high speed internet and TV were actually nice at the end of a long day of hiking.
The real kicker was the full kitchen and the grill, restaurants on the island can be expensive and, to be honest, cannot compete with a home-cooked meal with everything you can get from the daily farmer's markets. The hosts made us feel welcome and at home. We would love to come again.

We had a wonderful time at the King Kong Cottage. The location has a very local feel and the cottage was charming and a wonderful place to stay.
We loved the kitchen and living area and it is centrally located
which allowed us to explore easily.
Dave and Jen were great to work with and very helpful. If we get a
chance to visit Kauai in the future you can bet we will try to stay here
My wife and I loved the King Kong cottage. The home is perfect for just kicking back and relaxing. Our host was great, spending the time to acquaint us with the property, and making sure that we were happy with our stay. We loved the open air shower. There is a very nice beach just a few minutes away, we were there in February and had the beach to ourselves a lot of the time.
I would definitely recommend this place for any who want to get away from the hustle and bustle. If this home isn't available, check and see if any of the hosts other properties are.
Thanks again for giving us such a nice place to stay.
Big wave dave (Chris?--who knows who Val is???) is a friendly and really great guy. He seems to actually care about his guests and we felt welcome at the King Kong (also known as Coconut cottage). As he notes in his review of us the place (outside only) is a bit of under construction to say the least. A bit more so than we expected but by the time you are ready to stay here he should have fixed all of this and then both the inside and the outside is great. The "composting toilet" is a "poop and carry" experience but it works well, does not smell, and reminds you how much too much you eat...
The cottage is close to the main road and we perceived it as a bit loud at first but had forgotten about it by the second night.
Several units are rented at the property so you will not be the only visitor which is good.
The goats are great--especially if you have a little kid.
Location is also great--close to Kapa´a and the north PLUS the local beach is really nice (but you cant swim that much or snorkel really). You have it more or less to yourselves though. Just drive to it, takes one minute.
As everywhere on Kaua´i and Maui there are roosters so be prepared t 4:30 am.
Overall the inside is great, the outside needs some work (which seems to be in progress) value wise you can´t beat this if you don´t mind going in a bucket....
The King Kong cottage was a great little getaway for a great price. The accomadations were super cute and close to a very nice, fairly private beach that is great for shell hunting. The town of Kapaa is close by and has fairly good restaurants and a few small bars. The cottage is set on a developing farm with goats. Our daughter loved this part. BBQ is just outside the front door and there is a small two burner stove inside- be careful with the left burner. The composting toilet is nice, the shower hot, the TV super big with internet. Val and Jen were very nice, gave us a ride from the airport and helped us find a car to rent. Great experience in a beautiful place, we will be back!
Big Wave Dave and Jen and Val treated us well. This is a very affordable place to stay. They made every effort to accommodate our needs.
We enjoyed the goats! It is between Kapaa and Kileaua which was very convenient for us. Lots to do nearby!
