Ann and Luke are fantastic hosts! This place is the quintessential Swiss chalet in the Alps! The location is absolutely perfect in Burglauenen, a short train ride to the town of Grindewald or twenty minutes to Interlaken. A brisk walk from the train station and up the hill to the house is required, but that's what you can expect with the mountains. Ann was so kind to meet us at the train station even on such a short notice to show us our way.
The space is very cosy, located in a quiet and safe area perched on the mountainside.
The kitchen was well suited and outfitted for us to save money by dining in a few nights, and for us to pack a lunch before a day of exploring. This is definitely a bonus to have the luxury to stay in and relax at night.
Ann even put our load of laundry in the washer while we were out for the day, and when a fuse was blown in the studio Ann and Luke offered everything they could to keep us happy while it was resolved. They are incredibly lovely hosts.
We were very sad to leave, and hope to return sometime soon!
Ann and Luke were very friendly and uncomplicated hosts. They picked us up at the station even tough we came an hour later than planned. The apartment was cosy and well equipped. The area is very calm, right what we had looked for. I would stay there again anytime.
Ann & Luke (and Fred) are very caring hosts.
The communication ist perfect.
The studio is cosy, simple and well equipped.
The location is very quiet, perfect for slow down ;-)
Close to the station, perfekt accsess;ideal starting point for hikes and adventures in the mountains.
I wish you "always sun on your way"
Our stay with Ann and Luke was fabulous in every way. First of all, we feel it is more spacious than it appears as a studio - there is a separate kitchen, and within the huge "bedroom", there is a full sofa set. The place is extremely well stocked and they are very attentive to every detail, even leaving space toiletry items and a few foodstuffs to get us started. Yes, there is a steep hill coming up to the apartment, but you are in the Grindelwald valley are you not? We wished we could stay longer than 5 nights, as it was perfect and relaxing in so many ways. We hope to come back again and see your little boy growing up!
Ann and Luke were welcoming and helpful. One of the members our our party was not able to stay all four nights because walking up and down the steep hill was too difficult for her. Ann and Luke helped her find a place to stay in Grindelwald and carry her stuff down to the train station the next day.
If you are looking for a rustic place away from the touristy town of Grindelwald then this is the place for you. It was nice to be able to do laundry and cook our own food after eating in restaurants for a week. Ann lent us a drying rack so we were able to wash and dry all our dirty clothes.
The internet was updated our second day there so we had access to high speed wifi. This is an upgrade from what guests before us experienced.
The apartment is on the lower level next to the utility room which smells of paint and/or cleaners. If you have a sensitive nose or are allergic to strong smelling paints and/or cleaners this might not be the best option for you. I had to wash my clothes twice when I got home to get the smell out.
As Ann says in the review, the hike up the hill is very steep. On your way up with luggage you might need to rest a few times, but walking down to the train in the morning only took us 15 minutes.
Our stay at mountain chalet was comfortable and adventurous ..chalet is located on the hill and surrounded by mountains and falls..it's beautiful and living in the nature has its own charm.
The landlords , Ann and Luke, were warm and very friendly and patient with us. Answered all our queries, kept constantly in touch with us before and during the stay. They even came to pick us up at railway station.
If you are into trekking, hiking and a lover of nature that's the place to stay . Apartment is small and cosy with separate kitchen and dining. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils and have a small refrigeration , stove and oven. One can easily cook.
We had a wonderful and comfortable stay. Thanks Ann and Luke!!
About the Host, Ann
I'm originally from Sweden, been living in Spain and now the last years in Switzerland. I spend my days taking care of our baby boy & family, working with my marketing company and enjoying life on the country side :) That also includes baking home made bread, going for long dog walks and having coffee in the sun. Me and my boyfriend live year round in our country house in the Bernese Oberland mountains, between Grindelwald and Interlaken in Switzerland. We both enjoy meeting people from various cultures and like making sure our guests feel welcome and well taken care of.
Looking forward to hear from you,
