Guests keep coming back

Many guests return for repeat stays, praising the comfortable bed, quiet setting, and thoughtful details
Find economical luxury for long or short stays in our bright, beautifully furnished 1-bedroom apartment in the Irvington Historic District, close to the NE Broadway shopping and dining area, and well served by TriMet transit. You'll like the new construction, modern appliances, super comfy beds, two TVs and high speed WIFI. The unit is a separate sound insulated space giving you total privacy, with no air circulation to the main house and a private entrance directly from the street.

The space
We offer a delightful stay in our 750 square foot, one-bedroom, one-bath apartment, in the ground floor of our home with many spa-like, deluxe touches. We follow all AirBnB and CDC guidelines for cleaning the unit between guests, so you can book in confidence. This is all new construction with modern appliances, quality furnishings, fully equipped kitchen and extra comfy beds: A California King bed in the bedroom and a queen-size "comfort sleeper" sofa in the open plan living area. The comfort sleeper sofa is a deluxe offering unlike conventional "sofa beds", making for a spacious accommodation in the unit for up to four people.

In the open plan living area you have a dining table seating 6 so you can entertain friends, plus a fully equipped kitchen with Keurig coffee maker and a selection of K-Cups. To watch the 55" curved screen TV in the living room you can lounge on the "comfort sleeper" sofa or in one of the comfortable chairs. And "Smart" capability in the TVs means you can access Netflix and other streaming services with your personal login for even more programming choices. For your convenience there is a washer and dryer as well as an ironing board and iron.

Of course we provide high-speed WiFi throughout the unit (with a highly reliable "whole-house mesh system" with multiple points of connection) as well as Comcast cable with many of your favorite channels on both of the TVs. A desk provides a convenient workplace for the business traveler and a surge-protected power strip for your electronic gear.

While not fully ADA compliant, the unit is mobility friendly with the main entrance at sidewalk level and just three steps down into the main living space. The tiled, walk-in shower has a fold-down seat and a grab bar for extra comfort and stability. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept pets, although trained service animals are welcome with prior notice.

We urge you to read our many glowing reviews. Our guests have loved staying in the Quiet Retreat, and you will too.

Guest access
The entire apartment is at your disposal. Guests staying 2 nights or more may request access to our back yard and patio area which is accessible through a locked gate. Our back yard has a dining area seating 6 and a gas-fired grill which is at your disposal by prior arrangement.

By special request, we can provide access for bicycle storage in our garage, which is adjacent to the unit.

Other things to note
The kitchen is supplied with utensils, cookware, tableware, and a Keurig Coffee maker. We provide only the basic essentials like coffee creamer, sweetners of several kinds, salt, pepper, etc. routinely, but can assist you in stocking up prior to your arrival with your favorite items for a small charge if you'll be staying 7 nights or more.

While we don't provide breakfast, upon your arrival you'll find plenty of Keurig K-Cups and packets of tea plus sweetener and creamer for your first morning in the unit.

We have a modest cleaning charge applicable to all stays that covers our cost for preparing the unit prior to your arrival. We always strive to apply best practices for sanitation. As with most AirBnB properties, we don't provide daily housekeeping services. For stays longer than 7 days, we can provide clean linens for you to change yourself at no extra charge or we can provide a full cleaning and linen change out for $75. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule if you do ask for full cleanings during your stay, but request at least 3-days advance notice of your requirement.

All guests are required to fill out our guest registration form with full home address of each person in the party (including children) and your license plate number if you are driving. This is a requirement of the City of Portland for all licensed short-term rental properties.

Jim Heuer and Robert Mercer from Portland, OR. Jim owns a software company; Robert is a recently retired administrator from Portland State University. We are interested in architectural history, English literature, and railroading, not necessarily in that order. We love Portland and are happy we can share our city with our guests. We also are frequent travelers, and look forward to our trips to foreign countries. We are happy to assist our guests with advice and suggestions about what to see and what to do here in Portland. But we have provided lots of information in our House Book, and are just as happy to let our guests explore and discover the City on their own.
