Aro Valley is one of the more charming, artsy neighborhoods of Wellington. A lot of artists, political activists, students, and creative professionals live in the neighborhood and frequent the cafe's in the village (5 minute walk from our house).
The number 9 bus runs through the centre of Aro Valley. It is easy enough to look up its full schedule online.

When you stay at With Douglas and his wife you do feel that you're in a country villa. Set high on a hill there's are great views of Wellington and the waterfront from your room. The ensuite room is comfortable and quiet. There's a guest fridge and you're free to use the kitchen to prepare meals, a big bonus. It's only a 15 minute walk to Cuba street with its bars & restaurants. A great place to stay when you're in Wellington.
Cozy lower ground floor room with a nice view and private bathroom. It was a 15 min downhill walk into town, coming back is much more challenging! Was convenient for us and good value.
It was a great idea to stay at Douglas place. He and his girlfriend are a great hosts, they made me feel home and they were always ready to give me some tips regarding the city or to have a chill chat.
The house is big and in a good position: really close to the city center- 15 min walking- with a nice view to the port of wellington.
Nice and clean bedroom with toilet, all you can need.
In the morning a nice italian coffe with the cool coffe mahine it's a must!
We loved our time staying with Douglas. The room was perfect for our needs, set on a lower level from the rest of his house. The location is excellent, only a fifteen minute walk to the city centre. The house is up a steep, narrow road, but this isn't a problem as such roads are common in Wellington. The place would be easy to miss, but Douglas gave us excellent instructions to help us find it easily. Parking is not an issue either, which is great if you have a rental car.
If you're planning a trip to Wellington, I'd recommend this place anytime. Douglas is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome.
We had such a nice time at Douglas' place! He and his wife were both very welcoming, and we felt at home easily. The room has an amazing view on the city and the bay, and the ensuite bathroom was a very pleasant plus! I would recommend it with no hesitation!
We stayed at this place and as the title says it is really a cozy room with a beautiful view from the room overlooking wellington. Both Douglas and his wife were very friendly and easy in communication. The house is situated uphill but only a 10min walk down to Aro valley with some really nice cafes for coffee breakfast or lunch! Also the garden and terrace are a big place. Would definately recommend this room!
