Description

The Space

Comfortable second floor bedroom with two twin beds in a cozy home. The small shared bathroom is down the hall only a few steps away.
PLEASE NOTE: Be aware that the tub and shower in the bathroom is located under a sloped ceiling. A few guest have commented that it is awkward space if you are over 5'-5". I do provide a shower stool which can be used in conjunction with the hand held shower head as on option.

Guest Access

Check in time is 3PM but I can usually be flexible if you let me know ahead of time. I will be here to greet you when you arrive. If I cannot be here I will leave clear directions on how to pick up the key. Please let me know if you need directions. I have several personalized (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps I can email to you. If you are driving, I recommend that you find on-street parking nearby but there is one space available overnight if on-street spaces are tight.

Interaction with Guests

I will almost always be here when you arrive to greet you and get you oriented to the house and your room. If you choose to have coffee in the morning we can chat and I may be able to offer tips on restaurants or local sites.
Being mostly retired I am often home, on my computer in the living room, cooking, watching TV at night or out with friends.

I have maps and a restaurant guide to some of my favorites and I can be available to recommend restaurants or activities if you wish. I offer coffee and pastry in the morning. If you wish we can take time to chat and share stories and over coffee.
If you wish privacy and/or have a busy schedule I will respect your time and space.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is an historic district with many fine old homes, some still single family, others are now multifamily homes and offices.

Because of the proximity to downtown and the colleges the neighborhood can be lively and a bit noisy at night. This is an intermittent problem in the summer when the windows are open. On positive side, because of the activity, the neighborhood is entirely safe both night and day. You can always feel secure walking home late from downtown.

Getting Around

There are several taxi companies to take you to and from the airport, train and bus station. There is also public transportation (CCTA bus) one block away that will take you to and from the airport or the Amtrak station and to nearby malls, the Shelburne Museum, and many other destinations. In the summer the Lake Champlain Ferry, located within walking distance, takes you on a 1 hour trip across the lake to Port Kent where the Amtrak to NY stops once (?) a day.
The Greyhound bus and Mega Bus both stop at the University of Vermont about 15min walk away.

I am a retired landscape architect from the northern state of Vermont, USA.
I live in a 140 year old house that was once the caretakers house for a larger 1800's home nearby. I have raised 3 children in this house who are now living in the various corners of the USA. When visiting them I sometime use AirB&B to find a comfy place to stay nearby.

I spend my enjoying what Vermont and Burlington have to offer with friends, gardening and trying to keep my old house in repair.

In recent years I have been escaping the winter cold and heading to Mexico and other warmer climes happy to have Air B&B as an economical lodging alternative.
