Set within a river valley landscape along Bali’s sacred Ayung River, this all bamboo house is unique. It is located in the Green Village, first established in 2010, a master-planned community of high end bamboo villas with its distinctive blonde roofs. Entering the house is a feast to the eyes and a showcase at how black and white bamboo can be combined in all shapes and pattern to create a stunning collection of luxurious floors, walls, ceiling, stairs and railings. Even the roof is an innovative arrangement of bamboo shingles.
This incredible house, called Sunrise House, perched on the edge of the Ayung river valley, comprises an incredible 4 floors, with 3 double bed bedrooms, 3 ensuite bathrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining area with fabulous views, plunge pool, an office/ work area on the top (4th) floor, and other lookout areas. The main entrance is on the 3rd floor, where the lounge and kitchen and TV bubble room are situated. Going down the stairs to the second floor leads to 2 bedrooms, each with ceiling fans, both with ensuite bathrooms, and a reading room between the two. The bottom floor holds the Master Bedroom, with AC. It is unlikely guests will need AC! The master bedroom also includes a drying room with a de-humidifier. All the bedrooms have wind down bamboo blinds for privacy. From the bottom floor, guests can exit the house and take the stairs down to the plunge pool and private garden, perched quite literally on the edge of the river valley. All the rooms are furnished with exquisite bamboo furniture which perfectly complements the décor. The scenery and view from the house is utterly breathtaking. The photos do not do the House and surrounding environment justice. See it and believe it. If you are a party of more than 6, let us know: we can arrange extra sleeping arrangements.
The house includes ADSL WIFI, TV with DVD player (bring DVDs if you want to watch), and Satellite TV. Access is also available to the communal areas which include a natural pool, yoga / relaxation pavilion, edible gardens
We also have 4 other listings at Green Village!

Min stay 3 days in High Season (15 Dec - 15 Jan, 1 July - 30 Sept)
The bamboo house was so beautiful and exactly like the pictures and description listed. Our host was so understanding and made sure we were always take care of. We had someone in our group get very sick and she helped coordinate a on call doctor that had visited twice. There were a few times that my group could not make a decision or had changed there mind which could be frustrating for a host but she always made something happen that pleased the whole group.
Regarding location: it is quite a bit outside of UBUD. Every taxi driver could not find the location. When I had asked for a more specific address, they mentioned it was just a hard location to find. We ended up using their taxi drivers often just so we could be sure to make it back home! Also, as the pictures show, there are no walls, bring a lot of bug spray because you will get eaten alive.
Overall, great experience to give a try.
Utter heaven. Lulled to sleep by the sound of the river ajung then woke to it. Incredible dusk and dawn chorus. Good mosquito nets. A lot of time spent sitting and gazing at the valley. The trees. The swaying bamboos. The house martins. Swallows. Kingfishers. 7 species of butterfly. Nesting bird on the bamboo eaves. Incredible and inspiring design. Hot bath by moonlight. if we had been 1 of three couples would have wanted aircon unit for each bed not just master bed. Minor quibble but poss tricky if you are sharing the house equally. Please let me know if you take bamboo house concept to other bits of Indonesia or anywhere. For once didn't feel we were carrying the poisoned chalice of tourism. And would have loved an opportunity to but the beautiful green staff sarong!
Our family of 6 stayed at the Bamboo house for 3 days. The experience is AMAZING!
First of all, the house itself is breathtaking! It is a 4 story house all made of bamboo. The house is openly designed in that it does not have windows to separate you from the the nature. Staying in the house feels like you are living in the woods. The only downside is the noise, you can hear bird tweeting and river running in the night. some people may find it difficult to sleep with these noises, however, I had no problem at all.
The whole property contains nine bamboo houses and it is actually like a resort. There is a professional management team who take care of all guests . There is a bar from where you can order breakfast and dinner and drinks. Also, you can order massages. Our villa manager Maggie, who speaks fluent English, is very helpful. I had a little engagement ceremony thrown at the grassland of the property and Maggie helped me with planning and logistic!
Things that can be improved includes: after hour service. The resort office and the bar both close after 5, which means you can not get food or drinks or other other sort of assistance after 5 pm. Also, the menu from the bar can be diversified a little to provide guest with more choices.
Overall, our stay was great!!! We loved it and we would recommend the bamboo house to people who are nature lovers and want to seek out a different travel experience.
Thanks Maggie and all the staff at the Green Village!
This is a super unique property and experience. Absolutely stunning home and surroundings. This is definitely off the beaten path and a great way to spend some time in the middle of island. With the open air environment, there is not a whole lot of privacy, but that didn't bother us at all! Also, can be hot at night and at mid-day, but you get used to it! And that is what pools are for.
The staff at Green Village are extremely responsive and professional. The food was excellent as well and reasonably priced. We also built a Jegog, a traditional Balinese musical instrument- very interesting if you are interested in bamboo or music, or both.
Our host was very welcoming and helpful. She gave us some great suggestions of places to visit. The house was as beautiful as the pictures. There were alot of bugs, especially the first evening and this was due to wet season, however our host was very helpful and did assist in every way she could. There was a big improvement the second night and we were able to enjoy our stay. The area is quiet and serene, and at night the river can be heard beneath you. Very relaxing. The house is very spacious (could hold 6ppl) and really beautiful. Overall, an incredible and different place to visit and stay. We probably wouldn't visit again during the wet season but would definitely return during dry season.
Yes we were made to feel welcomed however we were not told where to go if we needed anything.
So first thing first. The house is as stunning as the pictures suggest. And once you are arrived, it has a magical feel, a uniqueness that makes it eminently worthwhile. Mirna and the housekeeping team are discreet yet helpful and the food absolutely delicious. The vegetables in particular are beyond words.
The house was a perfect hub for our arrival and we spend 2 days not doing much apart from marvelling at the property.
Also special kudos for the black lava soap and the natural bug repellent, and the quality of the linens, absolutely marvellous.
But, and I am very surprised that this hasn't been mentioned more in the comments, there are a few things that are worth criticising, especially considering the very expensive price that is being asked.
We had issues getting answers from the managers, and as my wife is celiac, we needed some reassurance about food, which arrived pretty late in process.
The pool was out of order and this was communicated to us not before, but casually during our visit. I don't think that's ok.
Also, while the house is stunning, the surroundings aren't exactly as pictured on the Airbnb website. Again, nothing majorly wrong with it, but our first impression was a bit of deflation (quickly eliminated by the house and the view)
