A 550 sq feet (50 sq. meter) 1-bedroom on the 4th floor in a 6-storey residential building on the historic street, Hamilton Terrace, with both bedroom and living room turning toward west and a leafy 144th street, which gives plenty of light during daytime.
The apartment accommodates ideally a couple possibly with one or two kids on the queen-size bed in the living room. Two couples living in the apartment is okay, but tight.
There’s an eat-in-kitchen with all amenities, including a microwave oven, toaster, small tv and radio.
The living room has a desktop in glas, which seats 5 people, a sofabed, which is equivalent to a queen-size bed plus television, stereo and DVD player. There is wifi as well.
The bedroom (the largest room in the flat) has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers and a work area with book cases.
All equipment, furnishing and decoration is brand new, most of it purchased in Ikea.
There’s an elevator, the building is very safe and is inhabited almost exclusively by young professionals.
The apartment building is in a cul-de-sac, part of the beautiful area called Sugar Hill just north of City College. Through the windows you see in profile the beautiful building architecture of late 19th century on both sides of 144th Street.
The trip to midtown by subway is amazingly quick. The A and D express trains are just around the corner and bring you to MoMa and Times Square in 15/20 minutes.
There will be a list of restaurants and supermarkets in the apartment
I commute between Boston and New York and tend to spend two weeks a month in New York City from Sunday evening to Thursday afternoon meaning that the apartment is almost always available from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and often through the whole week.
It is also available over X-mas and New Year as well as in July and August where I prefer long term rent of minimum a month.

I loved staying at this place. Was greeted by Carol who let me in, she is very nice and helpful. Great communication! Martin made it very straightforward. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks Martin for your kind hospitality
Had a great time there but I didn't tell Martin I had my emotional support animal with me (Martin left me a horrible review, somehow he was informed that my dog popped in his bed) or this is what he wrote. Not sure why he would lie about something so horrible. I happen to have slept in his bed and anyhow my dog is a service animal who was professional trained HE WOHLD NEVER but the apartment is nice. Nice building.
Apartment was very nice, clean and spacious, just like the pictures on the website. The apartment is on a very nice street and neighborhood. Communication with Martin (the host) and Carol (the housekeeper) was easy. I highly recommend this place.
The apartment is exactly as described and as on the pictures. Everything was fine, we slept well, the subway was not too far.
However some things that we didn't like :
- the heater in the bedroom is noisy, it surprised me and woke me up the first morning. The next mornings it was ok because I knew where the noise came from...
- one of the neighbours did put the music loud from midnight to 3 o clock in the morning, twice in the week. This is NOT Martin's fault, but it is worth mentioning.
- we regret that we didn't have access to some base grocery while living in the apartment (coffee, sugar...)
- we regret that we couldn't do some laundry inside the building.
Except from those points (which are totally our point of view and we don't blame Martin for that), no issues, everything was fine.
Also we want to thank CAROL who was very helpful and available to us. We appreciated it.
Thanks! Just to correct a couple of things for the record. There is a laundromat in the building next door for which there are keys and a card one can use in my apartment. It is all written up in the instructions. As to the heater - this is a typical New York problem. The only way to avoid the noise from the heating pipes when they start up 5:00 am in the morning is to turn the radiator off before going to bed. I will leave an arrow on my table pointing to where the knob is, which one has to turn. Also, I have put up an electrical heater next to the radiator that one can use as replacement in the night. It'll cost me more in power, but that's just the way it is. I had not done that when you were here in the Fall, it unusually cold that week. Martin
Martin's apartment was probably the best choice for our short visit to NYC. It actually looked even better than on the photos, was tidy, well equipped and spacious for our family of four. The location is excellent, nice and calm street, restored historic buildings, and a subway entrance nearby, with express trains reaching downtime in no time. Carol, the housekeeper was very helpful, even giving instructions for the kids how to join the treat-seeking action during Haloween's night. We had a great time and we definately suggest other visitors to stay here.
Great, clean and spacious appartment in a wonderful and quiet street. With the a train just around the corner it's very easy to get around. Communication with our host martin excellent and straightforward.
We enjoyed staying in Martin's apt, although we didn't meet him. His housekeeper Carol was very friendly and helpful. It was in a lovely part of Harlem, and was very quiet at night. Also very close walk to the subway, and also shops, and we wished we were staying longer. I would highly recommend this apartment.
Martin is a very good host. His apartment is roomy, clean and comfortable.
We spent a great time in martins apartment. It's a nice, quiet and save location and we felt very comfortable there. We didn't met Martin but he answered our questions very quikly and he is very uncomplicated. It also functioned well getting the key. We can absolutely recommend this location. Thanks!
Martin's apartment was great for our family of 4! The apartment is clean and well represented by the photos posted on the listing. The neighborhood is safe. We arrived home around 10 pm each evening and felt comfortable walking to the apartment from the subway (which is just a few blocks).
