I love my apartment on 4th floor looking west along 144th street toward Hudson River. It's neatly and effectively arranged with everything one needs. Building is filled with professionals, so is the street in a historic district. All guests love it.
A 550 sq feet (50 sq. meter) 1-bedroom on the 4th floor in a 6-story residential building on the historic street, Hamilton Terrace, with both bedroom and living room turning toward west and leafy 144th street, which gives plenty of light during daytime.
The apartment accommodates ideally a couple with one or two kids on the queen-size bed in the living room. Two couples living in the apartment is okay, but a bit tight.
There’s an eat-in-kitchen with all amenities, including a microwave oven, toaster, small TV and radio.
The living room has a desktop in glass, which seats 5 people, a sofa bed, which is equivalent to a queen-size bed plus television, stereo and DVD player. There is wifi as well.
The bedroom (the largest room in the flat) has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers and a work area with book cases.
All equipment, furnishing and decoration is 2 years old, most of it purchased in Ikea.
There’s an elevator, the building is very safe, very diverse and inhabited almost exclusively by young professionals.
I commute between Boston and New York and tend to spend most weeks a month in New York City from Sunday evening to Thursday afternoon meaning that the apartment is almost always available from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and sometimes through the whole week.
It is also available over Christmas and New Year as well as in July and August.
You have access to a laundry room in an adjacent building. You can park for free in the street. It is one of the easiest streets to find a parking spot in.
Interaction with Guests
I have a wonderful housekeeper, Carol, who owns a 4-story brownstone in my street with her husband Don. Carol receives guests when I am unable to, hands over the keys, shows you the apartment and helps you settle in after a long journey. She cleans after you leave. You can always call me for advice on my mobile phone.
The apartment building is in a cul-de-sac, part of the beautiful area called Sugar Hill og Hamilton Heights just north of City College. Through the windows you see in profile the beautiful building architecture of late 19th century on both sides of 144th Street. It is probably one of the most pretty streets in all of Manhattan, but relatively unknown. A real pearl and quiet with no noise from traffic. Generally everyone greets each other in the street. There is a genuine attempt to a convivial kind of living despite peoples different backgrounds
Every month new restaurants and cafes pop up in this neighborhood.
There will be a list of restaurants and supermarkets in the apartment and mailed to you by AirBnB when you book.
The trip to midtown by subway is amazingly quick. The A and D express trains are just around the corner and bring you to MoMa, Herald Square, Penn Station and Times Square in 15/20 minutes.
Other Things to Note

No pets are allowed, and no smoking. I do expect that guests are discreet and quiet and respect the privacy of other tenants.
The apartment was great! Really spacious for NYC! Martin was a great host. Very responsive and easy to work with. We had a great stay! I'd highly recommend this beautiful place.
Our stay in New York was awesome, and a great part of that is because Martin's apartment. We felt at home since the first time we enter the apartment, very warm, comfortable and clean. The apartment wasn't very big, but for two people is more than ok.
The great thing about Martin's apartment is that it is 3 minute away from the subway, so you can literally take the sub and be at home from anywhere in manhattan.
The neighborhood is very secure and calm. We arrived at home some nights very late and nothing happened to us. Lots of time we saw nypd patrols so you really feel that nothing can happen to you staying there.
Martin's housekeeper is the best, very helpful and gentle.
There are only good words for this place. Totally recommended
Martin's place was perfect for a long weekend in the city. Very close to the subway stop that takes you downtown. The place was roomy for two people and everything we needed was provided for us. Thank you Martin!
Martin is a very nice guy. He is quick to respond and makes sure his place is in order. The location is very close to the subway which is great. I'd recommend Martin any day.
Martin's apartment is extremely well-kept and very conveniently located in Manhattan, very close to the 145th St subway station. I stayed there for 1 week with a coworker, as both of us were visiting a third coworker in NYC. We had a terrific experience and enjoyed our stay very much. I would certainly try to stay at his apartment again when I come back to NYC, either for work or for fun.
I work as US correspondent for a newspaper in Europe. I usually stay in the apartment here in Harlem, New York from Sunday evening through Thursday. The rest of the week, the apartment is generally available, but I am once in a while also absent in other time periods. During summer vacation July/August as well as Christmas and New Year holidays I am always away.
