A cozy one bedroom, one bath cottage with an open floor plan kitchen/dining/living room is your home base for exploring the Kalapana Coast on the Big Island. The manager and local artist, Heather Wilkinson, lives next door in a two-story house in Seaview Kalapana Estates with her wily cat Mr. Undertoes. Heather will be your source for how to get the most out of your stay on the Puna (east side) of the island.
Your unit accommodates up to two persons with a full size bed in the bedroom and a single size futon in the living room. The kitchen is equipped with dishware, pots and pans, etc. and has a microwave oven, coffee maker, gas stove and refrigerator. Brand new state of the art water filtration system so you can drink out of the faucets. We have very recently converted the entire house to solar power. Parking is provided just outside your front door. Wireless internet is complimentary. We have a coin-operated washing machine but currently the dryer is not hooked up while we convert to propane. There are clothes lines available for drying clothes right outside the Ohana in a covered sitting area.
The atmosphere in Puna is totally laid back, friendly, and in tune with Nature.
There are locals markets Wednesday night and Saturday morning with the island's freshest produce is 10 minutes down the road at Uncle Roberts Kava Bar. Wednesday evenings another local market in Kalapana welcomes the community with dinner sold by a couple dozen food vendors and live Hawaiian music. Kahena Black Sand Beach is only a three minute drive from the Ohana and many great attractions including flowing lava, warm ponds , snorkeling, surfing, and steam bathing are within easy driving distance down the Red Dirt Road, which is actually paved now. Heather and Mr. Undertoes invite you to experience a unique lifestyle in Seaview Kalapana Estates.

When we arrived Heather showed us into the ohana and let us know she was available for any concerns we might have. The listing was accurate and we were not disappointed. Loved the neighborhood! It was pleasantly quiet except for the frogs the first night. Great place to stay.
Very clean, great neighborhood, and there's a lot to explore in the area. This place is a great value! We enjoyed our stay here and would come back again!
Heather's Ohana was great! The pictures and description were spot on. We had total privacy in a quiet neighbourhood within walking distance to a black sand beach. The Ohana is well equipped and Heather is available for all questions and information on the area.
We had a great time at Heather's Ohana. The place is well maintained, there has been alot of care in making it clean and cute and Heather was very accommodating. The location is remote and peaceful, Lower Puna should not be missed but you may want to spend some time on the west side as well for the water activities. The vibe of the region is laid-back with Hawaiian Kingdom separatists, organic farm working youth and new age gurus. You can meet some interesting people picking up hitchhikers but they can also sometimes absentmindedly wander in front of your car. Bottom line, if you want to "get away" this is a great place to spend your vacation. If you are sight-seeing, make this a stop along the way. Heather's place is great. Oh yeah, and don't forget your wifi device so you can keep on top of the weather and lava reports while you are there.
Très Bon accueil d'Heather. Le logement était conforme a sa description, propre, clair, fonctionnel et très bien décoré. Le cadre est super beau, nous avons passé un très bon moment
Das Studio bei Heather war super! Schön gross, sauber etc.

I have lived on the Big Island for 7 years now, and have occupied this property in Seaview for three years. I work as a mural artist and create art work that adorns much of my neighbors yards and homes. I enjoy exploring the Big Island, traveling, landscaping, dancing, swimming with dolphins and making art.
