Susan's spot is so cozy and warm it immediately felt like my own home. I would totally stay there again! The location is great too, not too far from Hawthorne or Division!
The Hawthorne Garden Warren was everything we were hoping for and more for our most recent trip to Portland. The property was beautiful and inviting, located in a quiet neighborhood with parking right out front. I personally loved the location because of all the great food choices and shops on Hawthorne, literally a few blocks away. The apartment was also extremely clean and comfortable. Sometimes accomodations can appear beautiful online and then be very underwhelming or disappointing in person; not the Garden Warren. Even though it is a basement apartment it heats up very quickly and has tons of space to sprawl out and make it your 'home.' Susan was so hospitable and accomodating; leaving out fruits, wine and recommendation lists for us while we were in town. We will definitely be booking the Garden Warren every time we come back to PDX.
I took my husband on a secret birthday getaway to PDX and we stayed in the Hawthorne Garden Warren. It was a great experience even in the crazy hot weather that weekend! The apartment stayed cool the whole time even when it was a scorching 95 outside. Despite it being in a basement there is little to no noise coming from the upstairs and none at night. The apartment is very spacious and was great for our 3-night stay. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the east side of Portland. It's a short drive to the Pearl and a short walk to plenty of great restaurants while still being very quiet at night. Susan & Ralph were very kind hostesses & the garden they keep is incredible!
My husband and I stayed at the Warren for the week. It was such a wonderful place to stay, clean and cozy. You cannot beat the convenience of being able to easily walk to all the best restaurants in Portland. We were able to walk to Stumptown for coffee, some of the best coffee. There's even several urban wineries nearby, so you can literally walk and do wine tastings. Susan was so gracious to even provide a list for guests to help pinpoint the best of the best restaurants. There were so many to choose from. If you want to eat in, the Warren offered a well equiped kitchen to enjoy a simple meal. We spent most of our time outdoors hiking, but it was so wonderful to have such a lovely place to return to after a long day on the trail or exploring Portland.
We were three friends staying at the Hawthorne Warren Garden for 4 nights. The place was convenient as it is located between Division and Hawthorne streets where you can find restaurants, bars and shops. We had a car to move from the place to other parts of Portland but I believe public transportation (bus) would be available around the Warren, or some would experience bicycle in Portland ;)
The appartement is in the basement of a lovely house in a lovely street and we found the place still luminous though. It was very clean, arranged conveniently and decorated with taste.
Susan was a pefect host welcoming us very warmly, the place were ready for us at our arrival and we found ourselves like we were at home !
Overally we were very happy with the place and would recommend staying there to our friends.
