  • The Hummingbird Nest is absolutely beautiful, and definitely helped make our stay in Arenal unforgettable! Ellen was incredibly welcoming and helped us figure out our plans every day (she even helped us book our tours, which was incredibly helpful considering we are not spanish speakers). There is also a maid that cleans the room every morning. I loved eating breakfast (which was delicious) while gazing out over the mountaintops and waking up to the sound of birds chirping outside our window! Ellen's cat and parrot are also adorable!

  • A gem of a place set in what turned out to be a fantastic launching pad for surrounding activities. Ellen's recommendations for activities saved valuable research time and all were first rate. A great location to stay for a 4-7 days. Room was clean and comfy. Views as advertised. Breakfasts different every day (nice!) and always with fresh local fruit. Horseback riding w/Lilander @ Appaloosa a most recommended way to see the beautiful countryside. Kudos to Ellen for her attention to detail! Will come again we hope.

  • Ellen is a most gracious host! She has a beautiful place, all tucked away in El Castillo. It reminds me of Bolinas, CA in that magical off the beaten track way. She was SO helpful with getting us reservations for horseback riding tours, zip lining and hot springs. This is a very cool area to visit and Ellen knows everybody and gave us really good tips!! It's a truly special place!! (And the breakfasts were delicious.)

  • We only have nice things to say about our stay at Ellen's. We had a great time! We saw many species of bird in Ellen's garden! We enjoyed the hot tub and the breakfast was really good! The location is ideal too!

  • The hummingbird B&B was a great place to spend a couple of days in El Castillo, right near the Arenal Volcano. While the 9km dirt road was a little jarring, it was well worth the ride to spend time off the beaten path, away from all of the tourists in La Fortuna.

Ellen is a great host, very informative, and provides everything you'd need for a stay in and around Arenal.

    Highly recommend.
