Upstairs loft apartment in a newly renovated and restored heritage house for holiday rental. In the heart of Nelson's historic Uphill district, within walking distance of the town center (5 min), Gyro Park and Pool (2 min.), Lakeside Park Beach (20 min.), local bus (1 min.) and Mountain Station biking trails (15 min. ride up, 3 min ride down!!). It has taken us 20 years to truly do what we wanted to with this house- open up the 9 foot attic and build a loft with a beautiful lakeview, making a cool and chic space for a summer or winter holiday. Whitewater Ski resort is a 22 km drive, Ainsworth Hot Springs 47 km.
The house has one double bed, two single beds and a sofa bed. Private parking, a shed and basement storage for skis or bikes, a large yard, fully equipped bathroom and kitchen; bedding provided. Entrance is through the front door on Silica St. Minimum stay is three nights.
Come discover a town with a fascinating blend of hip, quirky, unpretentious and progressive minded people. I have lived in many places and few compare for the quality of living and the creative energy amongst its local population.

Skis, bikes, sports gear must go in the basement or storage shed. No shoes or boots inside the apartment please- leave them at the bottom of the stairs. We have permanent renters downstairs and ask that you be respectful of them- quiet after 23h00 max.
What a wonderful and relaxing time our family had! We decided to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in our favorite BC town of Nelson and couldn't have chosen a more perfect place... The view of the water, wonderful walks into the heart of town, and lots of quiet family time! A great kitchen with everything we needed (even to prepare a Thanksgiving feast!), games to play, books to read, cd's to watch, and cozy beds to sleep in... Fabulous! We will definitely stay at The Red Brick House again!!
Thanks for the kind words Jennifer. The way you described your stay is pretty much the exact idea we had in mind when we undertook this plan to restore the house and build the loft. My wife and I are pleased that your visit was enjoyable. We all need to look at real estate as an investment but in the case of this house it is much more a project of the heart. It would be a pleasure to host you again.
We live in San Francisco and ever since seeing the movie "Roxanne" I had wanted to go to Nelson. And fall is our favorite season. The Red brick House was perfect . The upstairs (website hidden) so artfully decorated and has everything you need. Paul, the owner, was always in communication as well as his tenants who let us in. The house is just blocks from downtown(lots of hills in nelson, but we're used to that) and WHAT a darling city. The tree colors turned more (we were there Oct.4-11) so we got our fall fix.We loved just walking around the neighborhoods, taking some hikes and a loop thru Kaslo and around the other side .British Columbia--Super Natural couldn't be more true.
We had a lovely time. Thank you!
Hi Suzanne- thank you for such nice review- it makes us feel proud and pleased to know that others have enjoyed our place as much as we do. I hope you will come back or mention Nelson to your friends. It is rather an out of the way place- no easy airport access and the weather often cancels flights in winter. But some people prefer it that way, if only to keep it "secret" for a while longer... best regards. As for the ironing board we had one there- maybe it got moved downstairs but we will check this out
Paul's house is great. It's in an amazing location, within a walk from everything in downtown Nelson. The house is set up and equipped with all that you need. We stayed three nights and didn't spend anytime there except for sleeping, but it would be a great place to relax and enjoy a holiday. We would recommend staying there and would stay again ourselves.
Wonderful stay in Nelson! The Red Brick House was a great location, clean and had a wonderful deck. We sat outside every morning and night and enjoyed the view! The kitchen was well equipped and the space was perfect for our family.
Communication with Paul every step of the way. Great, hip, family oriented neighborhood.
The place was fantastic, well renovated and very comfortable. We were there for 4 weeks, with 3 of those weeks being a heat wave and even without AC it was easy to keep the place comfortable. Location was perfect for us and the kids loved the pool at Gyro park 5 mins walk away. Enjoyed being close to downtown too, markets, restaurants, etc. Paul and his local manager Pete were extremely helpful and made our stay very easy.
The Red Brick House was everything Paul said and more. It is in a beautiful spot in Nelson, close to downtown but not noisy. Get your walking shoes on as those roads are steep. The house was pin-neat, beautifully renovated and the manager was there to greet us. Sharp knives (always an important thing for me) and great non-stick pans. It's the little things that count! Thanks, Paul, for a great stay!

I taught high school 20 years ago in BC and since that time Nelson (both the town and the house I bought) has been a long term project and dream for me, and later my wife Danielle. I've been a climbing instructor, volunteer project coordinator in Africa and Latin America, motorcycle mechanic, text corrector, property manager, flight attendant and goalie coach and it seemed like half the people in Nelson were way more eclectic and interesting than me! Such a cool and welcoming vibe; I knew I wanted to keep roots there. My wife (who is an airline pilot) and I, plus our two teenage kids, live in Quebec City in a great downtown triplex that we've renovated with space for guests. It has allowed me to park the car and walk or ride my bicycle all year round, with the summer festival, the winter carnival and the old town just minutes away. We feel very fortunate for the opportunity to live in such beautiful places and hope you can share in some measure by staying at our red brick house on Silica or with us in downtown Québec City.
